Interesting. We'll see what happens next.

Russia agrees to US Ukraine guarantees

Russia agrees to US Ukraine guarantees
Russia has signaled its readiness to accept US-proposed security guarantees for Ukraine, marking a notable shift in ongoing peace negotiations. Ukrainian officials report progress in talks, particularly in military arrangements for postwar monitoring. However, territorial disputes, especially over Donbas, remain a major obstacle ahead of decisive talks in early March.

Russia signals acceptance of US guarantees
Ukrainian Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov confirmed that Russia has agreed to accept the security guarantees proposed by the United States for Ukraine. He emphasized that Moscow would be 'forced to accept' the terms, which Ukraine considers its own guarantees. Kyiv insists these guarantees be ratified by the US Congress to avoid past diplomatic failures, such as the Budapest Memorandum.

Ukraine war briefing: Trump urges Zelenskyy to ‘get a deal done’ with Russia | Russia | The Guardian https://share.google/L2kcifFeqcZGy3Q2V

Trump again spewing Putin propaganda about the war he was going to end as soon as he was in office. 🤣 What a joke

According to a CNN analysis, Trump made statements about ending the war in 24 hours (or shortly after election) at least 53 times. BUT, as soon as he was elected, he backpedaled and stated "could be little optimistic"--- we be in his second year and holding our breath. Classic Trump- say anything, do anything- get in power/ nothing else matters.

It's really nothing more than a tip of the iceberg situation.

Putin is very smart and an excellent negotiator. His goal is to keep parts of Ukraine he took over in the war. He wants it on paper that Ukraine and the U.S. is giving it to him legally. This agreeing to Ukraine's future security, or what will be left of Ukraine after he gets his slice was simply an add on he was willing to give up in negotiations to begin with.

It gives him the leverage to say he negotiated in good faith by making concessions so it's time for the other side to capitulate. Any good negotiator asks for more than they really want to begin with. That applies from selling a car to ending a war.

The problem is we can't deal with Russia the same way we can with Iran. President Trump knows that Ukraine can't keep all of the territory. If we quit providing weapons, Russia could take all of Ukraine as they once did.

The President is trying to broker a deal so we can get out of Ukraine. This comment isn't necessarily aimed at you, but it's funny how we pick and choose which wars we support and which we are against.

You're funny. Just out of curiosity - if the USA were similarly attacked, which states would you be willing to give up in order to surrender and pacify an aggressor?

As for costs and a comparison between Ukraine and Iran:

Ukraine - no USA military involved or deaths.
Iran- Direct involvement and USA servicemen dead

Ukraine - Russia started the war, we are helping defend an ally against one of the USA's greatest enemies/threats.
Iran - a war of choice we started.

Ukraine - 4 years - $184 Billion allocated (not all of it dispersed). But counting all the $184 B - over 4 years. Fighting and weaking our enemy - $3.8 billion per month.
Iran - Estimate that the first 100 hours cost $3.8B. Second Iraq war estimated total cost $3 Trillion.

Ukraine - NATO allies and the West united behind an ally attacked by Russia without provocation.
Iran - NATO allies not supporting an illegal strike and war against against another sovereign nation no matter how repugnant and evil the regime.

Kyiv says Russia accepted US plan for Ukraine security guarantees
By Reuters

KYIV, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Russia said at recent talks in Geneva it would accept the U.S. proposal for Ukraine's post-war security guarantees, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's chief of staff said on Saturday.
"At the last talks, the Russian side said for example that they would accept the security guarantees offered to Ukraine by the United States," said top aide Kyrylo Budanov in an interview aired on Ukrainian television.

U.S. President Donald Trump is urging Moscow and Kyiv to strike an agreement to end Europe's biggest war since 1945, though Zelenskiy has complained that his country is facing more pressure to make concessions.
Ukraine is seeking iron-clad security guarantees which commit the U.S. and its European allies to action if Russia attacks again after a peace deal is reached.
The last round of peace talks, which took place in Geneva last week, did not achieve a breakthrough and was described as difficult by Kyiv and Moscow, although Washington said it saw "meaningful progress."
Budanov also said that at present, Russia had not agreed to a summit between Zelenskiy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which had been floated earlier as a possibility by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff.

I don't try to make a vague comparison to one case where one of our largest global enemies invades a democracy on the door of our NATO allies to us attacking a nation that is of no imminent threat.

It appears you agree with me. Trump only pushes around and bullies the little kids on the playground to make himself look tough.

He would never try to do that to anyone nearly on our own level.

Is that why you think when Putin supplied Ukraine with satellite imagery to help them better locate our troops that trump stayed silent about it?
