Humprey was the highest paid C at $18M/year. This is $27M/year. That's INSANE. It certainly sounds that way. Yet it's the same basic story that happens every year. The salary cap goes up by a huge margin and so do the top salaries paid. It sounds as though a team with little to no salary cap gets relief with the increase in the cap. But that doesn't end up being the case in terms of signing top rated free agents. Those players just get a boat load more money meaning those who had the lowest remaining salary caps going into this have lower amounts of money to compete in signing those players.
