We just need to stay away from Sorsby. We've thrown away enough draft capital on mental QB prospects. Let him fall through the supplemental and if he makes it through, then try to sign him as an UDFA and load that contract with all the protective clauses we can come up with..... like, even if someone challenges him to a foot race and tells him to his face that he will lose and he responds "Wanna bet?!", then we can reclaim his entire contract.

And for the folks saying that'd be too many QBs.... You really don't think we aren't going to see ALL of them start at one point or another this year? Because we will.

Does all of this go hand in hand?

Few questions, let's start with the current QB room

1) Is everyone ok with moving on from Shedeur? Follow up, if so, what is the least you would take and be comfortable moving him?
2) Is everyone comfortable with Dillon Gabriel being the backup or does anyone trust Green to be the backup?
3) Is everyone comfortable with Desaun Watson being the starter, with no contestation?

Moving on...
1) Who is and who isn't comfortable with bringing on another project QB with a gambling addiction?
2) Is gambling worse than having 26 women sue a guy for sexual misconduct? Both sound like addictive issues.
3) What does Sorsby's actual skill set look like separating the negative issue at hand?

Let's start there and work our way up...

Current:
1) I'm not ok with moving on from Shedeur. From all indications he is building a nice rapport with the rookies and Bond. I don't want to disrupt that just yet. I would rather go into the season to see where it goes. If he is playing decent, but doesn't look like he has made some pretty big strides, then move him by the trade deadline and start the rookie QB process early.
2) I am comfortable with Gabriel as a backup, but wouldn't want to rely on him for anything more than spot duty. I have no opinion on Green yet, but would rather have Gabriel than him as backup at this time.
3) I'm indifferent on this. IF Sanders isn't the guy, then I am thinking about the draft any way. There is no universe that Watson is a Brown beyond 2026 season, so if he starts, then Sanders might as well be traded at any time.

Moving on
1) I am not comfortable with spending draft capital on Sorsby. It has as much to do with what I have seen on film as it does a gambling addiction. I do think with treatment, he can overcome an addiction. I just don't see any more in him than I did from Shedeur Sanders coming out of college. Different style of QBs, I am not comparing their skill set, just comparing what I feel to be their ceiling. I wouldn't use higher than a 5th round pick in the supplemental for him.
2) No, it's a pretty easy answer for me on this one
3) Tune in July 10th for his pro day for those that love underwear Olympics. I don't see a QB that makes great decisions. Can that be taught? Sure it can, but I don't think he will end up any better than the best mediocre QB in the league. Is that good enough for us?

It makes sense for someone like Detroit to take a chance on him with a 3rd/4th round pick. They are going to be picking at the bottom of every round until Goff retires. Goff is only 31, so even they might not want to risk anything on Sorsby.

Someone like Tampa Bay who hasn't settled a contract issue with Baker Mayfield yet, might want to think about this. A) Baker will have them competing for a playoff spot. B) Baker has had his share of controversy coming into the league. He could mentor that aspect for Sorsby if they both agree to use that platform. C) They don't have any viable option outside of Baker. I don't know that anyone thinks Jake Browning could be the heir apparent to Baker. Baker's camp has said, if they don't have the contract worked out by training camp, he is just going to play the final year on his current contract and go back into free agency. The Buccaneers would have a full season to see what Sorsby is without much being on the line. If Sorsby is a steal with a 3rd round pick, good on them. If they work things out with Baker, they might still have a decent backup with a 3rd round pick. I would put Sorsby with about as much of a chance at being a franchise guy as Sanders or Gabriel.

Now, if anyone is going to take a chance at a home run vs strike out, I think that will be the Jets. They just drafted Kade Klubnik, but they probably already have a good feeling that he isn't going to be a franchise guy. throwing a 3rd rounder at Sorsby might give them piece of mind at making a decision to take a QB high in the 2027 draft. They would probably be Sorsby's best chance at competing for a starting job in the NFL. Gino Smith is on loan as a NFL starter. At 35 he has played some of his best football in recent years, but also some of his worst. He isn't a long term answer. They don't have anyone after Klubnik of mention, so sliding Sorsby in as the #3 emergency QB would be fairly simple.

I don't think this is a going to be a fight for Sorsby. I think maybe 5 teams at the most put in a bid. With maybe 2 teams putting in anything higher than a 5th round bid.

He's listed at 6'3", let's see what he really measures in at his pro day. If he is closer to 6'0"-1", then he might go undrafted. If he is a true 6'3", someone might go as high as a 3rd, but I am willing to bet he goes for a 4th. Do you think Sorsby would take me up on that bet?

1. I am ok moving on from Sanders. He has a long long way to go, odds are very remote that he will be a bonafide starting caliber QB. He has a carnival that follows him as far as media goes. His work ethic - which I have consistently read is excellent - is his one characteristic I like a lot - as well as his deep ball, which **potentially** suits Monken's offense and the ability of both Bonds and Decepcion.
2. 100% comfortable with Gabriel as a backup.
3. I hate the idea of Watson starting - he's been putrid and he's a sexual predator. But if we moved on from Sanders this might be the outcome. I don't like it but I was forced to accept it before.

1. For a 4th round pick - possibly a 3rd if they really like him based on skillset and interviewing him and believing he can move on from his gambling ...
2. It's not even in the same universe let alone ballpark. Watson has conducted himself in a far worse way. Trying to compare the two does these transgressions an injustice.
3. I have not seen Sorsby play ... I can't comment to his ability.

I don't have any belief that Green is going to amount to anything. Before you wrote your post I was going to say I was in complete agreement with what Oober wrote in his last post.

Because of the short time frame before the supplemental draft.

The evaluation of Sorsby becomes more difficult. All physical traits are easy to verify.

Grading his talent on the field as a prospect is something every team will do.

The hard part of his evaluation is the gambling addiction and being diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder.

If he had returned to college that part of the evaluation would have been way easier because there would be a year under a microscope to follow his treatment and progress.

As fans we do not know his character as a person.

Gambling has come a long way. It is promoted and sold all over the place. It is made to be addicting. Sorsby began gambling in high school at 18. Public health experts and addiction specialists agree that the modern digital gambling ecosystem is fundamentally engineered for addiction.

Because the supplemental draft is in July. I have to wonder if the professionals treating him can be accurate about his prognosis.

So, the Browns and any team interested in bidding on him have a limited amount of time to get a comprehensive evaluation done.

With that said I fully expect teams will investigate, and draw a conclusion.

IMO he could go as high as a second and as low as a fifth.

Every team in search of a quarterback now and down the road will check him out.

* Edit add on. I just read this; "If anybody reads the NCAA investigation, they went through all four years of Brendan’s bets. The conclusion was there’s never integrity of the game violations. Again, his bets at Indiana were from the dorm room, not on the travel roster. The minute he was on the travel roster, there was never another college football bet ever placed."

I agree 100%. Sadly I think the NFL has been tougher on a player gambling than being a sexual predator.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

First off,it would be another media circus that this young team doesnot need this year.
secondly,it may all be moot, the Supp.Draft is held at the whim of the Commish,it may or maynot take place.

Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

1) I'd be fine with it, but I also doubt that it happens. See #2. I'd take a 3rd for him in a heartbeat, though, regardless of where that leaves us.
2) Absolutely not, but that said, Watson is our best QB and then we have a bunch of guys that nobody wants to see because if they get on the field, we're going to lose
3) I already assumed as much because unless he REALLY went in the tank, there's no chance that any of the others are close to him

1) I am not in favor of it, at all. Feels too much like Josh Gordon, but without Josh's insane talent ceiling.
2) Context here matters... the NFL will slap you on the wrist for sexual misconduct, it will cut you off for life over gambling, so yeah, gambling is worse from the perspective of wanting a player to be around and available
3) I don't know, but unless it is a SERIOUS and INDISPUTABLE upgrade over the entire roster, it isn't even worth entertaining the idea, in my opinion

How did the Browns get here

If Quincy applied the same standards to everyone involved, his credibility wouldn’t take nearly as much damage. It’s hard to take moral criticism seriously when someone is so focused on the speck in another person’s eye while ignoring the beam in their own.

A young, ambitious player making the biggest decision of his life should not be judged by the same standards as a middle-aged billionaire owner with unlimited resources, total authority, and the power to control every aspect of the situation. That should be self-evident.

The more time passes, the more disappointed I become with the decision-makers involved.

They had time.
They had resources.
They had access to more information than any of us.
Most importantly, they had all the power in the world to handle this situation better.

Think back to 2020 for a moment.

The Browns felt like the team everyone wanted to root for.
The players played with joy, energy, and passion. The fanbase was dancing, singing, and embracing the whole “Corvette Corvette” era. The “Same Old Browns” narrative finally felt dead. Even the touchdown celebrations were so much fun that fans couldn’t help but smile and join in.

Five years later, it’s remarkable how completely an organization can lose its identity.
The Browns team I fell in love with in 2020 doesn’t exist anymore. The culture, the energy, and the connection between the team and the fans have from my part of the world largely disappeared.

All I can do now is hope that one day, before I’m gone, the Browns find their way back to being that team again.

This morning I listened to a long breakdown of the Brown's receiving room with Tom Pellisaro and Steve Smith.

It was very interesting. Now I can't find it.

Anyway, to net it out they really like Boston, KC, Bond and Jeudy.

Smith went into it deep and brought up some good points about Camp and how everyone speaks about what they see. Defense talks about Offense and vice versa.

How will KC react if he drops a pass? Body language and being able to move on and improve.

They love the skills of the room.

How will the players read the 50/50 reps to decide the quarterback? They all talk.

Last season we had Camp hell with quarterbacks. This is defined as a battle of two.

Monken wants to rid the team for a losing culture. He is going to be hard and chew some ash. He will not tolerate sloppy football.

I look forward to this pre-season.

I can't wait for preseason either, but I just hope that expectations are not at an all time high. A rookie wide receiver has a lot of adapting to do, we have two.. to go along with a second year player. I have high hopes for the room, but I am not expecting them to light the league on fire right away.

It is impossible when you do not know who is throwing the passes.

NFL has put in so much control over practice time, hitting and full pads. Only three games.

Camp comes quickly with a lot to get done in a short period of time.

First team reps with 11 on 11 and the week of practice with another team are huge.

Reps are precious with players fighting to make the team.

And guys who are trying to make the first string.

Bond is the guy I expect to see make a big leap.

I don't think receivers really care who is throwing the ball to them as long as the passes are accurate. As for timing, unless the receiver pulls up on a route or simply blows the call, timing is more a function of the QB and O line.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I think we’ve laid down a solid foundation for our future. However, the O-line is probably not a finished product and there will be some growing pains with the rest of the unit particularly at WR. As usual the QB position is not settled. I would love to see us win 10 or more games but realistically this is a 5-7 win team. It will be a season of developing players and come together as a team.

I posted this question to Gemini AI.

Trying to be objective based upon all the data, all the scouting information, all the reports and everything there is to look at regarding the ceiling of Shedeur Sanders. What is it? Is it possible that this guy could be a franchise quarterback?

To answer objectively, we have to strip away both the "Coach Prime" hype and the excessive media criticism. By looking purely at his draft profile, his collegiate data at Colorado, and his rookie-year tape in Cleveland, a highly defined picture of Shedeur Sanders' NFL ceiling and potential as a franchise quarterback emerges.
WalterFootball

The Realistic Ceiling: A Precision-Based, Timing-Dependent Starter
When scouts talk about Shedeur’s absolute best-case scenario, the comparison that frequently surfaces is a player like Geno Smith or Tua Tagovailoa—and in terms of playstyle, a highly accurate, classic dropback distributor.
Reddit

The "Franchise QB" Blueprint (The Ceiling): Yes, it is entirely possible for him to be a franchise quarterback, but it is system-dependent. Shedeur is not a 6'5" physical freak with an elite arm cannon like Josh Allen, nor is he a rare dynamic runner who will break off 60-yard runs. His path to being a franchise quarterback relies on being an elite point guard.
NFL.com
+ 1

The Ultimate Best-Case Comp: A high-end starter who wins with extreme pre-snap intelligence, elite short-to-intermediate ball placement, and lightning-quick processing inside a rhythmic, play-action-heavy offense.
NFL.com

Why He Can Reach That Ceiling (The Strengths)
Shedeur’s raw passing data shows elite traits in areas that transfer directly to NFL success:

Elite Base Accuracy: At Colorado, he completed 74% of his passes, boasting one of the lowest uncatchable-pass rates in college football. His ball placement in tight windows on intermediate in-breaking routes is NFL-caliber.
Reddit

Exceptional Turnover Avoidance: Despite playing behind a severely struggling offensive line at Colorado, Sanders registered a microscopic 1.3% turnover-worthy play rate. He does not panic-throw into double coverage when things break down.
PFF

Advanced Footwork & Poise: Having been coached meticulously from a young age, his dropback mechanics, knee bend, and throwing base are incredibly clean and disciplined.
CBS Sports

Mental Toughness & Preparation: Scouts consistently praise his football IQ and his absolute fearlessness. He will stand in a muddy pocket, accept a massive hit, and still deliver an accurate strike.
WalterFootball
+ 1

What Limits His Ceiling (The Red Flags)
The reasons draft pundits often projected his ceiling as more of a "high-floor, limited-ceiling" starter boil down to three main flaws:

Average Arm Strength: He doesn't possess elite, raw velocity. Deep outs and deep-ball throws require touch and anticipation because he cannot simply "out-throw" tight NFL coverage with pure zip.
PFF

Processing Speeds vs. "Superman" Sacks: Sanders has a severe habit of holding onto the ball too long. At Colorado, he frequently invited pressure and took excessive sacks because he preferred to wait for a big play downfield rather than taking his check-downs. This was apparent in his rookie season in Cleveland, where he took a high volume of sacks and struggled under pressure.
CBS Sports
+ 2

Under-Center Transition: The college offense he ran was almost exclusively out of the shotgun (taking only eight snaps from under center across four college years). Adjusting to traditional pro-style footwork and turning his back to the defense on play-action takes time.
CBS Sports

The Verdict
Can he be a franchise quarterback? Yes, but with caveats.

Shedeur does not have the "eraser" traits of a Patrick Mahomes—meaning he is highly unlikely to elevate a bad roster or a chaotic offensive scheme on his own. However, if paired with a creative play-designer (like Kellen Moore or Sean McVay) and protected by a stable offensive line, his elite accuracy, high football IQ, and situational toughness give him a legitimate path to being a top-12, highly productive franchise starter.

I fear the bigger issue at hand is time. Can he develop, can the offensive line gel, can the WR room adapt to the professional game speed? I don't think Shedeur will be around long enough to reap the benefits of a QB that was drafted it the first round and given time for all the development to occur. He needs to sink or swim this year, which probably isn't fair, but with the recruit situation at QB, the Browns will be making a decision in April 2027 on QB. That will be reliant on what happens with Sanders in 2026.

I believe the manner in which questions are framed often times makes things a little more murky than they may first appear. When you ask things such as "is it possible" that opens the door not based on likelihood. All draft picks are chosen based on potential. Thousands have been drafted on "what's possible". Most all "could have been" successful or even great NFL players had they have ever reached their full potential.

As for myself I don't really play around with AI. I've seen people who use it often say sometimes it's reliable and sometimes it's not. However, I do think that if you asked this question in the form of not what's possible, but based on the likelihood of Sanders becoming a franchise QB the answer may be quite different. I believe at the very least it would appear somewhat more objective.

With a late-round QB like that, I think you need to just need to get a feel for how/if he's going to develop. Is he developing in areas where he was determined lacking (hence the later draft selection)? If he is improving, where can we reasonably put his ceiling/floor?

I think you can start to look at some of that even as the rest of the offense is similarly in a state of flux.

In the end it is up to SS.

I posted a question just to see what it would say. I found the answer quite comprehensive.

However, nobody really knows. He has to play to find out.

Dan Orlovsky broke quarterbacks down into these categories.

1.0 quarterbacks you win with in spite of

2.0 quarterbacks you can win with.

3.0 quarterbacks you win because of.

I like that breakdown.

If the ceiling of SS is Gino Smith. He falls into the category of "you can win with." Kinda of like Baker.

Allen and Mahomes you win because of.

Lots of discussion on who should be our starting QB- it is sad we haven't hit on a Qb we've wanted to keep for decades-- history, Brady was a 6th rounder, Purdy was last man taken- how do you get all time best Qb in 6th rnd, and Purdy is no slouch in my book--- this is WHAT IF-

WHAT IF Watson stays healthy and we win half our games---stats wise he has more height, longer arms, bigger hands than SS, he's been a real Pro Bowler, just not for us. He could ball out- he's only 30, he could be our Qb for a number of years......another reasonable contract- time will tell.
