When I was a boy my first glove was a Warren Spahn model.

Hank Aaron was one of my favorite players.

I moved to Atlanta in 1978 and became a huge fan. TBS, Ted Turner, and the Braves as a super station brought fans from all over the country. Braves baseball is a whole culture. My roots are the Indians and now Guardians.

I love baseball and follow both teams. But I watch the Braves play damn near every night.

The Braves don't have near the payroll of the Dodgers, and Mets. They are around 7th to 9th in team salary.

The organization is very well run. They are usually in the hunt.

This year and last year they have had a lot of injuries. I figured they would hang in there till the trade deadline and then put on a run.

No way did I expect them to have their record and lead all of baseball in batting average and ERA.

Drake Baldwin won the ROY last season. He has been unreal. Olson leading in RBI's. Guys who were depth players have been playing big roles.

The real surprise has been pitching. I did not see them doing what they are doing at all. Both starters and the bullpen.

At the same time I really love this young Guardians team. They are building a team that will compete well for years.

Yeah baseball.

It is a good morning to wake up and see the Guardians and Braves both in 1st place.

Guardians beat Phils. Braves comeback and win in 11th. Braves now 20 games over .500 with a 10.5 game lead over the Phils.

Guardians winning streak at seven.

I am loving this stuff.

The Braves are dominating every stat.

Schwellenbach, Waldrup and Smith-Shawver are throwing and will return by mid July.

Baldwin will return soon. Acuna is back and will hit his stride.

They are going to be a load come playoffs.

You can probably take it in all ways, but primarily traffic, sprawl, crime.

So just like every other place where you have a large concentration of people in a small area?

Atlanta doesn't even rank in the top 25....................

Most Dangerous Places in the U.S. in 2026-2027

Crime rate can be one of the deciding factors of where families settle down. Based on each city's murder and property crime rates per 100,000 people, determined by FBI crime reports, these are the most dangerous places to live in the United States.

Ah, ok. I didn’t know if you meant the city or the Braves Truist Park area.

I don't anymore, except when traveling south. Then it can't be avoided without a massive detour.

Given the injuries right off the start of the season to the starting rotation.

I was hoping that by the All Star break the Braves could be over .500 and within 6 games of the lead. Then when they got a couple starters back they could make a run.

They are 17-2-1 in the series they have played.
They are 23 games over .500.

They are in first place with a 9.5 game lead.

There is no way in hell I saw this happening.

I am loving this. It would be out of character for their GM to make this deal. But I could see them doing it.

Skubal will be traded more than likely. He will be a mega free agent after this year. So trading for him is most likely a rental.

However, getting Skubal to pair with Chris Sale would give the Braves a hellava one two punch in the playoffs.

I could see this happening.

The Braves traded to get All Star catcher Sean Murphy three years ago.

However, he has had injury nightmares. Hip surgery then a broken finger.

The bright side is a young catcher named Drake Baldwin got a chance to play.

And play he did. In 2025 he won ROY.

He started this year on fire. Hitting 303 with 13 HR's and 38 RBI's. This young man can barrel balls like nobody's business. He then strained an oblique and missed 24 games.

He plays one game in a minor league rehab assignment. Bangs a home run.

Starts last night's game and hits lead off.

First at bat. Count goes to 3-0. He takes a strike. Next pitch dead center 473 ft. away the longest home run in MLB this year.

I love this guy. He is thrilling to watch. His barrel rate is off the charts. This young man has a hellava future.

nice win today - almost blew a grand slam opener.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I effing hate the dodgers.

I am a baseball fan. Love the game.

But I hate the financial structure. It is disgusting what the dodgers are being able to do.

I pray they get beat in the playoffs.

I guess the positive is the talks of a hard salary cap seem to have a bit more traction, though probably not enough to see anything in the next few years. I think the biggest problem is with the players. I get why they don't want a salary cap. I also get why some of the teams don't want that.

I hope it doesn't get to the point where we see a contraction in baseball with a few teams just locking the doors and going home, but that may be what it takes.

They won't. Barring serious injurie(s) you can just pen them in.

I asked AI this morning because I was curious... the total guaranteed value of their payroll is now over 2.5 billion.

It's gross. It's why I don't really care for or watch the game anymore.

The Braves can beat the Dodgers.

Sean Murphy returns in a week. That means Drake Baldwin will split catcher and DH with Murphy. Baldwin was the first string catcher in the All Star game. Hitting 280 with 20 jacks.

Braves just traded for Lane Thomas. He will platoon with Yaztrzemski match up lefty/righty.

Braves pen matches dodgers.

The Braves are going to trade for Jose Soriano (Angles) or Casey Mize (Tigers).

Chris Sale is in a fight to win the CY. ERA 2.08.

Spencer Schellenbach will return in September.

AI with the changes say 50/50 Braves vs Dodgers.

I want to play them screw the dodgers and skubal as well.

I'd love to see it, bro. I don't really pay much attention, so the names don't mean much to me. Obviously Sale is a beast. And truth be told, even at his age, his arm has been more reliable than Skubal.

Beating them in a seven-game series would be awesome. It's been a minute since you've had post-season success, maybe you won't have to deal with Philly this year.

I know you brought up the Dodgers but before I comment on your post first let me say, my eldest great grandson who is 8 LOVES Shohei Ohtani! I'm just happy he is into sports and follows it. Baseball is his favorite sport while he still watches other sports as well.

So now, on to the Dodgers. I don't really disagree with your premise. However I won't focus strictly on the Dodgers. Big picture it's the haves and have nots. George Steinbrenner was doing this with the Yankees in the mid-1980s, 1994, 1997, and continuously from the late 1990s through the 2000s.

Currently, as things stand today, the New York Mets: Opening Day active payroll of $352.2 million (approx. $357M+ present-day 40-man value), featuring top player salaries like Juan Soto.

Los Angeles Dodgers: Luxury tax/CBT payroll upwards of $410–$420 million with an active Opening Day payroll around $316.6 million.

New York Yankees: Around $297.2 million on Opening Day and over $337 million in total tax salary.

Philadelphia Phillies: Roughly $282–$283 million active/opening payroll and exceeding $314 million in luxury tax calculations.

It's a product of the system. And the wealthiest take advantage of that system as it is their right to do under the current structure of MLB. So I don't really blame certain teams specifically. I blame MLB.

That's why I haven't bothered supporting MLB since the mid 80's. This has been going on for four decades now and MLB has done nothing to address the problem.

The Braves are 66-45 third best in MLB.

They have not played their starting lineup yet. Injuries have taken a toll.

Acuna has missed 2 months. Baldwin and Murphy have missed time. They lost key starters Strider, and others.

But guys are coming back. They will win the East. The Phillies are 8 back. If the Braves play .500 ball the Phillies would have to go like 40-20.
They are 5 games over .500 now. They are not good enough.

Second best record is the Brewers. They are really good. The AL does not have a team to match the NL. A number of teams could win the AL.

I hate the dodgers because of their obscene payroll.

However, they can be beaten. They are the favorites but in baseball things happen.

Same here. I almost have to "accidently" catch a game. Sometimes I'll scoreboard watch and tune in late if a game seems worthy. Once in a while it will just be on in the background while I'm doing other things.

I'm not bitter. I don't even miss it.
