I watched the first 3 quarters and then had somewhere to be
- Watson was OK. Nothing great, a few clunker throws. I feel like Monken is most concerned about pre snap stuff with DW. - Sanders had 1-2 really nice throws and then some horrible ones - Gabriel, kinda the same that we've seen - KCC is legit - and you can tell we want him to be involved a lot - Not much room to run for our backs from what I saw - but I'm not an OL guy in the least
- I'm very concerned about our D depth. It's not nearly what it has been IMO - Coats flashed some good plays - Delpit got injured so hopefully not serious - Of course we were also missing Ward and Carson
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
Bone, it's almost always a long year. If I had to give a number for our win total, I would say 5. I'm hoping I'm wrong and it's more but I don't see it. Hopefully our young guys will continue to develop and our rookies also. That might be the best we can hope for this season.
First, before I post this I need to give a preface. I don't take a lot from preseason. I don't give it much credence overall. But the purpose of this thread is to post what I saw in this game so I will honor the intent of the thread.
Of he three QB's watson looked best. But even he seemed to lose confidence as the second quarter wore on. Shedeur was being Shedeur. He would throw the ball and you would think that was a pretty good pass. Then the next play I would think WTF was that? Gabriele confused me. Last year he looked confident on the field. He was rather poised for the most part. That's not what I saw yesterday. Outside of the first quarter that seemed like a common theme with all of our QB's.
I will say that watson did have all the starters available to him in the first quarter and that may be the reason for at least some of what we saw, or didn't see as the case may be at the QB position. Sanders will be working with the 1's in next weeks game so maybe that will give us more insight.
The starting OL did look improved in the passing game but not so much in the running game. KCC looks like the real deal. Fano seemed to hold his own.
We were missing some big bodies up front and starting CB's on D so it's much harder to tell how it stacks up right now. Hopefully once we see those players in the line up more questions will be answered.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
The Browns had a chance to draft a promising QB in Drew Allar. But Andrew Berry like a Wal Mart Door greeter knows little about drafting the right QB.
I see Monkens offense even in a small sample size looks miles Above better than Stefanskis . Who by the way Atlanta fans are hating already The defense has big issues with depth. The oline has worse depth Fannin needs to make the easy catches
I concur. I don't want to see DW play either. I'm rooting for SS I like him and want him to succeed. I want to see him play and develop. Unfortunately, winning is the name of the game and DW may give us the best shot. As a Browns fan for almost 60 years, it's very frustrating. I've seen teams that were good, have a stretch of some bad seasons and become good again and we're doing nothing but spin our wheels. Sad, frustrating, disheartening, disgust, pick your word they all apply.
I remember the first pre-season game last year against the Panthers and we looked good. We all know how the season turned out. We saw some good and bad play yesterday but it's only one game against a talented and well coached Bears team that should be competing for a Super Bowl spot. This is the same Bears team that gave us a beat down last December. I'm willing to give it some more time.

Sampson Concepcion and Boston look ready.
Not trying to be a jerk, but can we please wait on anointing Aller anything, especially promising? Before last college season he was being considered one of the top 4-5 QBs for the draft. That piqued my interest when I read it, because evry game I watched him he was less than average. So, I looked at his stats and was amazed at the numbers he put up the previous year and just assumed all the games I saw him play way less than optimal were an aberration. So, I looked at game to game stats. Nope. I watched him play in high profile games against good teams. Looking at his stats, they were not anywhere near what a QB you would draft were. Then I found a report that showed against the top 4-5 defenses he played, he completed 48% of his passes. I realize that was his junior year, and I know his senior year was cut short due to injury, nothing I saw made me think he had anything. I was sort of surprised he went in round 3. BTW, all 3 QBs for Pitt combined to complete 81% of their passes. Mason Rudolph was 10/11. Howard was 7/9 and Aller was 10/13. Aller did have TD passes of 4 & 5 yards and a TD rush. Remember a lot of our fans being excited about Brandon Weeden and DTR due to Pre season?
Allar looked really decisive with the ball. That was a issue of his at PSU. But what he did at PSU is irrelevant now . Hes a rookie .he will make mistakes . But his very small sample size looks a heckuva lot better than Gabriel's or Sanders at this point . DTR wow another failure by Berry .

And Carson Beck looked like he's vying for MVP in his first preseason outing.
Something that was so obvious was how much better the Bears "backup teams" performed compared to the Browns backups..!
That is a reflection upon those selecting the Browns backup talent along with the coaching staff responsible for teaching the backup talent.
Hopefully what we saw yesterday was just a bad day for the Browns franchise and not the beginning of a trend for the 2026 season.
OR
The Bears are in year two of Dennis Allen’s defense while the Browns have a new DC. New system, new communication, new terminology and new adjustments to learn.
Couldn't that have a direct impact on how "green" the backups look in the first preseason game? First team likely getting a lot more meaningful reps in practice.
I've seen number of wins being thrown around - anywhere between 3-6 seems to be the general consensus.
This is one of the first years where I think we are VERY far behind the other 3 teams in our division. We may squeak out a win at home against 1-2 of them, but I don't think any more than that.
I don't love opening up in back to back road games in Florida heat either.
Our defense is going to have to really be good for us to win 5 IMO

Yes that enormous 10 points has me convinced too.

Who by the way Atlanta fans are hating already
No, no they don't. Now you're just making BS up out of thin air.
If you cant see Monkens ability to scheme up guys to get WIDE open and free Then I dont know what to tell you . Just got back taking my daughter to Georgia Tech. Listening to the sports talk ..very few are encouraged by Stefanski In fact most Falcon fans I heard hated the hire
Allar put 20 plus points by himself . How many did Shedeur and Gabriel engineer? Gabriel looks like he regressed . He might be the worst back up in the AFC .
That interception Shedeur threw looked bad but he did have DL in his face. If he completes that ball we’d all be saying that he looked pretty good 👍 And I stated earlier on another post that the Bears are a talented well coached team that IMO is a solid Super Bowl contender
Did we all forget how good Shedeur looked in his 1st preseason start last year against Carolina?
Not saying that to support him but rather to say, don'tn be overly impressed by Beck and Aller's performances at this point
My feeling is we don't have the time to worry about other QB's, we just need to pay attention to ours.
As far as what I saw, I saw Watson look the best QB of the day. KC has the chops. Kind of reminded me of Metcalf from years gone past. Really quick. Sampson looks good. I hope we actually use him some running the ball. He is a stronger runner than many think, and it protects his ability to be a very good pass catcher.
As for the D it is hard to say. With the off broadcast, you never knew who was actually playing. I know we had some guys out so I am not ready to say we have problems there.
I see a potential problem on the sideline but I have already discussed that so I will let that go for now. As for Taylen Green, I still say we need to work him some at WR. On the broadcast someone mentioned working him at TE which makes sense as well. Brock Bowers as an example isn't playing TE for his ability to block. I am not saying we give up on him as a QB just yet but if we are looking to keep him on the roster it might be hard to carry him as a dedicated QB. After Fanin, Whitehead is OK as a back-up and after that it's a bunch of guys who would be easy to get on the PS. I would work him some at those positions just to see. Taysom Hill had a pretty darn good NFL career playing a lot of TE after being a college QB at BYU.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Genuinely asking as I'm just spit balling.[/quote]

And if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their ass when they hit the ground. Let's be real for just a minute. He threw 10 int's and 7 td's last season. He threw 1 int's and 0 td's in this game. If you shouldn't throw the ball, don't. This is a huge problem until it isn't. 70% of the time when a team loses the turnover battle they lose the game.

one thing I just can't get over with Watson - he seems to be confused or freeze in the pocket far too often. I don't know if he can't read defense, has never gotten back into the groove, etc - but he seems so unsure on at least half his drop backs

This may sound strange, but he reminded me is a bigger, stronger, better hands, Dennis Northcut. Northcut was very quick and fast from a start. KC I think is about 20 lbs heavier and seems, at least so far, not shy away from going across the middle.

I'll take it if he's a bigger Cutt

Watson looked better than Sanders but not by some wild margin. Watson looked more comfortable in the pocket but still showed some recurring issues in his game, namely the happy feet and taking his eyes away from downfield. People are hating on these intermediate throws, but I was perfectly fine with it plus is was a vanilla offense. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the plan- Get Watson to his first read and let the athleticism of your WRs make plays, especially Bond and KC. Add in an honest running game and that might open things up a bit more.
Sanders also showed me some of his major issues from last season-- holding the ball too long and stepping back away from the pocket (although this was wasn't as bad as last year). Overthrowing the ball again is not good. In the end both didn't do anything to pull away and that will be a problem unless they grow into the scheme.
Depth on the defensive side of the ball is scary, especially the secondary. Health might improve the DL plus another signing.
Special teams looked decent.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
