Damn but the Bills looked good. They looked like SB contenders .... But how many times have we seen them look great early in the season only to fade in the playoffs or late in the season??

Wouldn't bet against them at the moment but also think they can't keep up that level for an entire season.

I always worry about Allan and all those designed runs. He ran it 14 times last night for what I think was 8 first Downs. It’s a great weapon and it keeps the offense on the field, but man, the risk. If he gets injured their season is toast.

So far through one game offenses are beating a snot out of defenses league wide. I think I read that last week was the highest scoring week of football ever or something like that. Last night‘s game was definitely in that trend.

And of the games I watched, the running game was super critical. Detroit climbed back into it last night with Gibbs and some excellent run blocking. I know Jacksonville had the number one run defense last year so we stand to look better going forward but getting that run game going is gonna be super important for us for the obvious reasons.

Josh Allen is excellent for sure... And I expect them to be good, but that was next level. Detroit are a playoff bound team I'd say, and they got spanked.

Yea I had the same thoughts about how much Allen was running. One freak play or big hit and his season can be over, that's a big risk. If it was playoffs I could get on board but not this early in the season.

If one of the teams I bet on don't win, the Bills would be a great team to root for. I've got small bets on Tampa and the lions.... A bigger bet on the Ravens

Worry? He's 6'5" 245

He's bigger, weighs more and is probably just as strong as our entire defense outside of linemen. That's right, the only player close is Schwesinger at 6'3" 242. That's the entire roster.

Watch his m.o. when he runs and how he reacts to contact. He loves it, he initiates it. That goal line score? He literally forged ahead and then became a battering ram the second he saw the crease.

When you knock him down, he makes sure he bounces up faster than you. Then he just stares at you with the biggest smile on his face. A lot of times, you'll still be on the ground when he does it. It's demeaning and borders on "taunting", but can you flag someone for smiling? He's saying, "are we having fun yet?" You're thinking "no, not really".


I don't think I'll ever forgive this franchise for passing on him. I was just a dude sitting on the couch and I knew it was a no-brainer. GM made it clear several times that the room was split between Aleen and Mayfield; so basically, John Dorsey got his way.

Yep. Spent a few days in Buffalo last year, right before football season. Allen this, Allen that, everybody in Allen jerseys. Walk into a bar? Everyone's talking about Josh Allen. Roadside produce 60 miles out of town? Josh Allen T-Shirts for sale. Those circle bumper stickers... "JFA"... and everyone knows what it means.

Good for those fans.

It's so freaking hard to be a fan of this team anymore. And for all those that are like "Allen in the playoffs, blah, blah, blah...." All I ever ask for is someone worth rooting for. Is that really too much to ask for?

Agree that he's a freak, size wise... When i said freak play I was thinking of a pinky finger getting dinged... Broken, bent, strained. High ankle sprain .... Something that can happen to anyone just landing oddly.

And as big a Baker fan as I was/am ... It would have been so much better to have had Allen. Or Lamar. Neither of which were who I wanted. Allen due to completion % in a lot lower division, Lamar as I thought he was a one trick pony.... Clearly I was wetting on both counts.

Sure. I don't discount that possibility. It can easily happen in the pocket as well though.

As much as I hate to say this; I admire what Harbaugh did with Lamar.

I remember his first season, and seeing all the rushing stats. I'm like "these guys are craaaazy, this is never going to hold up". I think he averaged like 15-18 carries per game.

But you know what they did? The said "we're not taking the 'football' out of a football player". And what looked like carelessly throwing caution to the wind has worked out pretty well. Football is a mean, violent sport, but as soon as you try to play it carefully, you've already lost. Just my .02 though.

And yes, this relates differently when we're talking about QBs. Allen is just built different though. Also, dude does not hesitate to slide. He did it once last night with a solid 3-4 yards left on the field. Picked up the 1st down, slid, popped up for fresh chains.

If coach does not fully capitalize on a QB's entire skill set he is limiting his options on O and making it much easier to defend against.

Much like yourself and mgh when this trend started becoming more popular I thought it was a crazy and a huge risk of serious injuries by rushing him so much.

But as time has passed the evidence now leads me to believe the only time that risk becomes so high it's probably not worth it is in the cases of having a very undersized QB like Bryce Young or Tyler Murray.

I will say this isn't a one size fits all situation. I do think some QB's are more injury prone than others. Something makes different bodies more an less prone to injuries.

Agree. And Lamar Jackson does a great job of avoiding or absorbing contact for the most part. His worst injury was in the backfield -- because JOK came at him like a guided missile.

I wish I could be mad about Josh Allen, but I was the guy pounding the table for Baker on draft day. I can't be mad about Allen, when the guy I wanted above all was the guy we ended up with. Allen could have been a different player on a really bad Browns team. His career could already be over... Let that sink in.

While I agree with what you're saying in theory, I do believe there are other important factors to remember. Baker had the opportunity to play with the Browns, the Panthers and the Rams before he got to Tampa Bay. And while Baker did lead the Browns to the playoffs and Tampa Bay to the playoffs twice, Tampa Bay is in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL. I think with the eye test alone it's hard to dispute which one of these QB's has the best "natural sill set" with which to work with and develop. While it could be that Allen may have been a different player on a really bad Browns team, by contrast the Bills could have drafted Baker and still be a mediocre team at best. There's no real way of knowing which of those two things is true.

But what I think is the biggest point of all in your post is this......


I think you're being a little too hard on yourself. You see, we're just fans. We have very limited information with which to form our opinions compared to NFL franchises. We don't have an entire scouting department, an analytics department nor are we an NFL GM who gets paid millions of dollars every year to get it right.

From my point of view trying to compare what any of us wanted compared to what an NFL GM is expected to do, is paid to do and has every resource available at his fingertips to accomplish is comparing apples to oranges.

They're supposed to be far superior at this than we are for all of the reasons I have listed above and then some.

Just to be clear I'm not what one would call "mad" about it. It's just another on a long list of examples as to why we are where we are now. If I were to remain mad about all of those decisions my head would explode.
