Pentagon says the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed KONSTANTIN TOROPIN, ERIC TUCKER and CLAUDIA LAUER Updated Thu, October 8, 2026 at 5:09 PM EDT Firing squad execution of Ft. Hood shooter will be livestreamed, Pentagon saysScroll back up to restore default view. WASHINGTON (AP) — The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed, the Pentagon said Thursday, a stunning revelation about plans for the first military execution in more than 65 years after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had described it as being "public." The Army announced this week that the execution would take place at Fort Hood on Dec. 3 after Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 others in a shooting at the military base in 2009. Hegseth, speaking to the conservative TV outlet Real America's Voice on Wednesday, said, "We'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public." Officials in the Pentagon clarified Thursday that the execution would be livestreamed and that more details would follow. The revelation from Hegseth about the public nature of the execution — let alone one as violent as a firing squad — has raised further questions about how the death penalty is carried out in the U.S., especially after the botched lethal injection of Christa Pike in Tennessee. Experts offer mixed reactions on the plan Hasan could choose to resist execution and file a habeas petition — a legal request to review the legality of a detention — in civilian court, which could significantly delay the execution, experts said. "It frankly might outlast the current administration, and who knows if the next one will have the same penchant for executions," said Eugene R. Fidell, a visiting lecturer at Yale Law School specializing in military law. Deborah Denno, a death penalty expert and law professor at Fordham University, said livestreaming an execution could make the process "much more transparent" and inform the public about all that capital punishment entails. Those are benefits that she said would be useful at a time when Pike's botched execution has raised fresh questions about the manner by which criminal defendants are put to death for their crimes. "I think it could possibly be a good idea because it would be transparent and the public would be fully aware that it's happening," she said. When many states have had difficulty carrying out lethal injections due to difficulty accessing drugs or finding medical professionals willing to participate in executions, firing squads are coming to be seen as a less inhumane alternative, said Brenner Fissell, a professor at Villanova Law and vice president of the National Institute of Military Justice. "Firing squads can be a quicker, cleaner, more precise way to execute a prisoner," he said. "I don't think that's what's motivating this. There's a perceived masculinity and military-ness to firing squads that is part of the aura Hegseth is trying to emphasize — the 'lethality culture.'" Elisabeth Semel, co-director of the Death Penalty Clinic at UC Berkeley Law, said Hegseth's announcement raises a host of legal and public policy questions, including concerns for the dignity of the defendant, who will be eligible to view the execution and what the Trump administration has in mind in opting for an unusual spectacle. Though there has been long-running discussion about the idea of televising an execution, "I don't recall a situation in which it was instituted by the government. I think that also raises serious questions about what is the motivation of the government," she said. "This is a president who's about spectacle and that's, I think, precisely the message that he intends to deliver," Semel said, adding that she was skeptical that the administration had given second thought to the legal and social questions being presented by the decision. Trump has spoken out against public executions in Iran Trump, who approved Hasan's execution, has previously been critical of public executions in Iran, at times using the possibility of protesters being killed by the Iranian government as a possible rationale for military action that preceded his ultimate choice to attack Iran on Feb. 28. "We've been told that the killing in Iran is stopping," Trump told reporters on Jan. 14. "It's stopping, and there's no plan for executions." In his State of the Union address just days before launching the Iran war, Trump reiterated, "We stopped them from hanging a lot of them with the threat of serious violence." The White House on Thursday referred questions about the plans for the livestreamed execution to the Pentagon. Hegseth was asked Wednesday if Hasan had made any final requests or reached out to the Trump administration. The Pentagon chief replied: "Don't care. We'll see him on Dec. 3." It's not clear if Hasan will try to appeal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who held the rank of major, walked into a medical building on Nov. 5, 2009, where soldiers were waiting in long lines to receive immunizations and medical clearance for deployment. He shouted "Allahu akbar" — Arabic for "God is great!" — and opened fire with a laser-sighted handgun. He also shot at the backs of soldiers fleeing toward the parking lot. Hasan said it was an effort to stop them from going to Afghanistan and killing his fellow Muslims. A military judge barred him from presenting that as a defense during his 2013 trial. Hasan was left paralyzed from the waist down after being shot in the back by law enforcement, and he now uses a wheelchair. Hasan could seek a lengthy delay of his execution, though given his behavior at trial, he may not want to. After firing his lawyers and representing himself, Hasan began his portion of the trial by telling jurors he was the gunman. He said little else over the next three weeks, which convinced his court-appointed standby lawyers that Hasan's only goal was to get a death sentence. The military called nearly 90 witnesses, but Hasan rested his case without calling a single person to testify in his defense and made no closing argument. Yet he leaked documents during the trial to journalists that revealed him telling military mental health workers that he could " still be a martyr " if executed. Attorney John Galligan, a former military judge who had represented Hasan in several civil matters following his criminal trial, spoke with Hasan on Wednesday but is barred from offering much detail about that conversation. He is not representing Hasan in his criminal case but said he's worried about his physical health under the plan laid out by officials, and that Hasan has not yet had access to legal counsel. Galligan said that according to Hasan, the commandant of the facility brought a chaplain but no attorney from either the Trial Defense Service or from his civilian defense when he was notified that Trump had signed off on his execution. Galligan called that a breach of Army regulations. A spokeswoman for the Army said Thursday that multiple attempts were made to contact Trial Defense Service attorneys, saying they made every reasonable effort and adhered to policy. "The civilian counsel was not reasonably available to be physically present for the notification on the 5th," the spokeswoman said, adding that counsel was located in Virginia but did not provide a name. The spokeswoman also said Hasan has not been kept from contacting and communicating with his counsel. Hegseth said the military hasn't executed a service member by firing squad since World War II. The last military execution took place on April 13, 1961, when Army Pvt. John Bennett was executed by hanging. Amnesty International said in its report on executions in 2025 that it knew of at least 17 public executions — 11 in Iran and 6 in Afghanistan. https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/pentagon-says-firing-squad-execution-210940574.html

I'm surprised trump didn't just rename an NFL stadium "The Trump Colosseum" and bring out the lions. Or just build one named after him.
Maybe this is what MAGA means? I bet the ratings will be YUGE!
I wonder if it will be a PPV event?

US Archbishop Coakley: Livestreaming execution promotes a ‘culture of death’ Archbishop Paul Coakley, President of the US Bishops’ Conference, expresses shock over the planned livestreamed execution of Nidal Hassan, warning that a public execution would “further undermine the moral fabric of our nation.” The President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, has expressed “shock and great sorrow” over the decision to publicly livestream the execution of Nidal Hassan, the former Army major sentenced to death for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. “Our God is the God of life,” said the Archbishop of Oklahoma City in a statement to Vatican News. “In no way can Hassan's actions be condoned, but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered.” Archbishop Coakley recalled the exhortation in St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans: “do not repay anyone evil for evil” (Romans 12:17). “The public execution even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people,” he said. He concluded with a prayer that the nation would choose life, even in difficult circumstances. “I pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel that we as a nation may always choose life even in the most trying times and circumstances.” Execution planned for December The Pentagon announced plans to livestream Hassan’s execution by firing squad after President Donald Trump approved the execution on the recommendation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. According to the Army’s announcement, the execution was scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, Texas, although further legal proceedings could delay it. It would be the first execution carried out by the US military since 1961 and its first by firing squad since 1945. Hassan, a former Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center on November 5, 2009. A military court sentenced him to death in 2013. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights also criticized the livestreaming decision, telling AFP that broadcasting an execution live would amount to a public execution and violate the absolute prohibition of torture. https://www.vaticannews.va/en/churc...op-coakley-rejects-execution-hassan.html

It's absolutely sick. It speaks of a sickness within people and the country that this is being done. Personally I am not in favor of the death sentence - but I it's not a huge issue for me. Putting this individual to death for his evil acts is fine... The live streaming of this is disgusting. It's essentially going to be a snuff movie/short.
It's performative. It deters no-one and achieves nothing other than panders to some real sicko individuals. If you watch it I think you are a very troubled individual.

One of the most disturbing things imaginable.
I cannot fathom this in 2026. You would think a county based up Judeo/Christian ideology that something like this could not happen.
You can separate philosophy on capital punishment in a different category. But a streaming of an execution is a reflection of a sick society.
I am disgusted by this and find it very disturbing.

Somehow it is ok when the US does it?

I don’t really see anyone on here making that argument, bro. I think a lot of us just think it’s barbaric and beneath us.
I also don’t really buy the argument that we need to show force. We did that for multiple decades combined in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel certainly has done that. None of us are really better off for it. Arguably we are way worse for it.

Here are my thoughts on it: We hear all the time people that are for allowing abortion: If you don't like abortion, don't have one."
So, following that, if you don't like watching the death penalty, don't watch it. Simple, really.

I get what you’re saying but this is about the televising. I don’t hear any complaints about actually executing the guy. Go ahead and do it. He deserves it, IMO. We certainly don’t televise abortions as a way to prevent people from having unprotected intercourse.
Televising an execution is crossing a rubicon for me that puts us in pretty awful company.
Honestly, the more I contemplate it, I think the whole thing is a bigger distraction from some headwinds the Pentagon is having on multiple fronts and I don’t think it happens. They have us distracted, though. Bait which I am taking again, unfortunately. This is the last I’ll say on the whole thing.

It seems beyond odd that you would be ambivalent about something that seems outrageously un-American. Other than terrorists and a handful of murders on FB - the only other States to have live streamed or broadcast executions is Iran and North Korea. I wonder if you would have been ambivalent about something like this 10 years ago.

I cannot understand how this is something that anyone would not be repulsed by?
Are you effing serious?
How can somebody justify this? You mean it is ok with you that on the TV menu is a live execution?
Oh, You don't have to watch it? Is that a response?
Think about censoring **** ***. But, it's ok to watch an execution?
When in the history of TV has this been done? And now in 2026 this somehow OK?
"Let's watch Sesame Street and then let's watch a firing squad kill a human being."

Well you know how it goes. We will now follow the terrorists example of live streaming executions. If you hate what they do, do as they do. It's all the rage these days.
Propaganda vs. Live Streaming: Most recognized terrorist groups (such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or Boko Haram) historically choose to edit, production-value-enhance, and time-delay their execution videos to maximize psychological impact, propaganda messaging, and narrative control rather than relying on unedited live streams, which can be rapidly cut or shut down by platform moderators. It's not live streaming but they just love to show us how they execute people.
I mean if you can't beat them join them, right? It's odd how much we choose to object or not object depending on who is doing the executing.
The last physical public execution in the U.S. took place on August 14, 1936, when Rainey Bethea was publicly hanged in Owensboro, Kentucky.
• Rainey Bethea: Hanged in a parking lot in Owensboro, Kentucky, in front of thousands of spectators. Public backlash and chaos surrounding the event led most states to end open, public capital punishment.
• Subsequent Hangings: A final localized public-pass hanging occurred in Missouri the following year in 1937 for Roscoe “Red” Jackson, after which traditional public executions effectively ceased in the United States.
• Modern Broadcast Plans: Lawful executions have not been broadcast or livestreamed on public platforms in modern U.S. history. However, the Pentagon announced plans to livestream the upcoming military firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, scheduled for December 3, 2026.
Maybe now we know what point in history the trump administration wants to go back to in order to MAGA. Thank God they have live streaming now.

I am glad the scum bucket is being held accountable to the military code. I have no plans to watch it live. I am sure that at some point it will show up on the net and in reality, what is the difference between live and on video? Seeing these things a day, week, 3 years later somehow sanatizes things?

Now that they are inside your tent, I am surprised some of you claim to be against such things when it is embedded in your culture. Do you mean how we despise the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent women and children by Netanyahu? By "inside your tent" are you labeling every Muslim as the same? If so can we label you all to be like Dylan Roof? I am glad the scum bucket is being held accountable to the military code. I have no plans to watch it live. I am sure that at some point it will show up on the net and in reality, what is the difference between live and on video? Seeing these things a day, week, 3 years later somehow sanatizes things? We both live in Tennessee. How many times have you seen an execution ever shown on TV by the state either live or later? As a matter of fact when has any publicly shown or watched execution been held since 1937 in the U.S.? If it isn't allowed to be filmed it won't show up anywhere. I'm glad he is getting the death penalty too. He deserves it. The fact our own government has decided to make a spectacle out of an execution is something the terrorists do. When did it become American to emulate the terrorists?

I won't watch it; I have no interest. But I will be relieved this much deserved execution will finally be carried out. And yes, once again, outrage is the tail that wags the dog and no one seems to focus on the dog itself... BARBARIC:
On November 5, 2009, U.S. Army Major and psychiatrist Nidal Hasan committed the deadliest mass shooting on an American military installation at Fort Hood, Texas. Acting as a self-radicalized Islamic extremist, Hasan targeted unarmed service members, killing 13 people (including a pregnant soldier) and wounding 32 others in a matter of minutes. The details of the crime and its execution outline a calculated attack: 1. Premeditation Before the attack, Hasan spent months training at a civilian firing range and researching extremist ideologies online. He purchased a semi-automatic handgun with a high magazine capacity to carry out the assault. 2. The Location Hasan targeted the base's Soldier Readiness Processing Center. The facility was crowded with roughly 300 service members undergoing final medical checkups and administrative paperwork prior to deployment. In accordance with military base regulations at the time, the personnel inside were unarmed. Hasan entered the building, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" and opened fire.
3. The Nature of the Attack The attack lasted less than 10 minutes, during which Hasan fired more than 200 rounds. Witnesses reported that he intentionally targeted uniformed service members while permitting civilian workers to flee the area. Among the 13 people killed was Private First Class Francheska Velez, who had recently returned from deployment and was pregnant at the time.4. Legal Resolution and Aftermath The shooting continued outside the building until civilian base police officers arrived and engaged Hasan. He was shot multiple times, surviving the injuries but remaining permanently paralyzed from the chest down. During his 2013 military court-martial, Hasan acted as his own attorney and stated that his motive was to protect the Taliban from the United States military. He was found guilty on 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder, and was subsequently sentenced to death.

I guarantee I can do some simple searches and watch rapes, murders, beheadings; anything I want within a few clicks. This isn't like a 1978 presidential address where it's locked on all three channels, you won't have to send the kids upstairs and turn the volume down. How many of those were government sanctioned events distributed and approved by the U.S. government? Stop pretending this is somehow the same or even similar in any way. That said, I can certainly understand people being disgusted because by the reality of a military announcing it will be "live" for anyone to consume; it just doesn't move the needle much for me. Yes, our government choosing to show the same events major criminals and terrorists do shouldn't bother anyone. I won't watch it; I have no interest. But I will be relieved this much deserved execution will finally be carried out. I haven't seen anyone disagree with you there. And yes, once again, outrage is the tail that wags the dog and no one seems to focus on the dog itself... This is what it looks like when people try to pretend that people shouldn't be outraged over anything. When they try to excuse things no civilized society should ever approve of they wish to accuse those who object to it rather than face the fact it's they themselves that have lost any sense of accountability in support that our government have any resemblance of a moral compass.
The details of the crime and its execution outline a calculated attack:
Among the 13 people killed was Private First Class Francheska Velez, who had recently returned from deployment and was pregnant at the time.
That is barbaric. Just as are public executions. One does not excuse the other.

I can't believe anyone is actually defending this - SMH! It makes one wonder at what point, if there even is a point, at which they will stop supporting things that were unthinkable just a short time ago. .

No-one is defending the atrocious actions of the guilty person. No-one here seems to be trying to say he shouldn't be put to death. So those points are strawman talking points.
I also don't see how the ability to go online and find essentially anything you want - no matter how sick or depraved - means that the Govt of the USA should therefore broadcast it also.
I'll repeat - other than some FB murders, terrorists, Iran and Nth Korea ... I can't find any reference to live streaming executions/murder. Maybe my search missed something and you can add to the list? If not that's a short list of despots and apparently some are comfortable adding the USA next to them. . . . Maybe it is no surprise after the USA has been voting with the likes of Russia and Nth Korea at the UN recently.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

There is a HUGE difference between something being available on the internet and crossing the screen of every TV in the country as part of their daily programming. If you don't see it, that's on you.
I was outraged when Obama's first Homeland Security Secretary called Fort Hood a "man-caused disaster"... and he himself said it was just "workplace violence". You? No?? See, everyone is different.
Watch or don't watch. Part of your Freedom of Choice. I guarantee there are hundreds of family members of the 45 killed or wounded, and 300+ service members that lived through that violence, that will be watching and applaud the fact that this monster is sent to hell. What are they? Monsters?
Again, before anyone gets it twisted: I can see how many think this is a bridge too far. It doesn't move the needle much for me. Nobody is trying to make anyone watch it. I have no desire to see it, so I make the simple decision not to watch. Glad this POS is finally getting what he deserves. Hope this may deter someone, anyone, from even considering doing something similar.

It makes one wonder at what point, if there even is a point, at which they will stop supporting things that were unthinkable just a short time ago. . Here's your classification for "supporting" something... If someone is not 100% outraged an outspoken about something, they must be supporting it. So yes, Pit, live in your fairyland where you think anyone that has even a single thing to say in support of Trump is in a cult and would bow at his knees even if he starts eating babies. I said I can understand how people are outraged, but it doesn't move the needle for me. End of story. Besides that, don't really care. I think it's crazy that nobody would even talk about the crimes this human garbage committed unless I reminded them. Then that's called a strawman! LMAO. I'll just bow out and let you all froth at the mouth.

You have given reasons in support of livestreaming an execution. You have raised zero objections to it. In case you missed it, that is supporting it. You even went as far as saying you were outraged over something Obama said and also said this doesn't move the needle for you. How much more supportive do you need to be to admit you support it? So yes, Pit, live in your fairyland where you think anyone that has even a single thing to say in support of Trump is in a cult and would bow at his knees even if he starts eating babies. You don't have to be a member of a cult to support some of its despicable acts. And as of yet trump hasn't eaten any babies.... that we know of. But maybe time will tell on that one. The crimes are well known. What this man did was a a disgusting act of terrorism. Being disgusted that our own government is following the example of terrorists and criminals by livestreaming an execution isn't "frothing at the mouth". No matter how crazily you try to package it. Trying to justify livestreaming an execution by pointing out the acts of the terrorist has nothing to do with the acts of the American government in response. But that's what many of your kind do these days. Once again you try to shift the blame to those asking for accountability even on the most basic of terms. Nidal Hasan, the former U.S. Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people and injured 32 others in a mass shooting at Fort Hood in 2009, told military mental health experts that he wanted to be executed to become a martyr. I'm sure he's thrilled they are going to livestream it as well. Playing into the hands of a terrorist is not attractive.

Politics is so depressing to me.
I really dislike politicians in general. Elections are just gross info-mercials.
The backbone of politics is corruption pure and simple. It is a quid pro quo business with everyone looking to line their pockets.
The trump administration is rotten to the core. The democrats are not much better.
For the most part I try like hell to stay away from it but it is like a neon sign in your face at all times.

I have no problem with the guy being executed.
That is not the point at all. Exactly, He committed the act, he was arrested, tried and found guilty and sentenced to death... No Problem with that. Just hope people figure out that it's just not the American way..... I know the difference.

You have given reasons in support of livestreaming an execution. Where? I can't find any of those, maybe you can point them out for me. I think you may be imagining that... which actually, ironically, supports the very thing you quoted above to dispute. Then you aren't looking. You don't have to say, "Yeah, I support that" to be supportive of something. Making excuses as to why it's okay, minimizing the severity and using whatabouts as you so famously like to say is all a form of support..... Just so you understand; it's never been stated or intended that this will be on someone's "TV menu" or be broadcast over the public airwaves. The execution WILL NOT BE SHOWN ON TV. We all know anyone that has an internet connection can live stream anything they choose. It's much like choosing which channel to watch on TV. By attempting to downplay that it's signaling at least that it's not as bad as people are suggesting it is. This is known as passive support. I guarantee I can do some simple searches and watch rapes, murders, beheadings; anything I want within a few clicks. This isn't like a 1978 presidential address where it's locked on all three channels, you won't have to send the kids upstairs and turn the volume down. Comparing what terrorists and criminals do and what low lifes post on the internet as an excuse why this is somehow okay for our government to do? Let me guess, you'll deny that supports it. And yes, once again, outrage is the tail that wags the dog and no one seems to focus on the dog itself... Once again you posted the horrific terrorist act this man committed as an excuse for a public execution. As a society we are supposed to be better than that. Only terrorists broadcast public executions. Let's try not to support we act the same way the terrorists do. I was outraged when Obama's first Homeland Security Secretary called Fort Hood a "man-caused disaster"... and he himself said it was just "workplace violence". You? No?? See, everyone is different. He explained why he thought it was wrong and you sated why you are different. Actually you compared how you were disgusted by something a president said and somehow managed to compare that to a public execution in terms of bothn events somehow being realted or similar. Watch or don't watch. Part of your Freedom of Choice. I guarantee there are hundreds of family members of the 45 killed or wounded, and 300+ service members that lived through that violence, that will be watching and applaud the fact that this monster is sent to hell. What are they? Monsters? And this is one of your weakest attempts to justify livestreaming a public execution. Executions happen in many states across this nation. Families of the victims are allowed to attend if they so choose. In case you missed it, giving reasons why something is okay or claiming that it's about the victims families when clearly this is not needed for them to witness it is in fact supporting it. Then, to top that all off, you explain that those who object to it see it differently than you do. How others may see it as a bridge too far but it doesn't move the needle for you. I can't believe you actually needed me to show you what you posted yourself. And I'm not the only one who saw it and questioned you about it. It seems the only one who couldn't see it was you.

Cool story. So you throw a bunch of posts from numerous conversations on the cutting board and act like you made a salad.
The bulk of that mess you made is arguing over "TV". After several people (including yourself) said "it will be on TV". I simply pointed out the difference between choosing to seek something out and watch it and "Oh my God! Oh my God! Look what's on ABC!!"
That's your schtick though (everyone knows it, that's why most don't engage), paint someone into a corner with a narrative you create out of thin air and see if they'll entertain you all day. I've got better things to do as these conversations have never been worth the payoff of an all-day back-and-forth that culminates in "I know you are, but what am I?"
You can have your last word NOW. Not arguing pre-school b.s. with you anymore. I barely unclick posts... usually when the rare occasion arises that it looks like you're interested in conversation and not grandstanding.
So, you can just be right and collect your gold star.

These are comments you made in this thread about the same topic. By accident I did post "one time" that it would be on TV. Every other time I made it clear it would be live streamed. Unlike you at least I owned up to it. My "schtick" as you call it is showing several examples in this very thread where you have tried to minimize and downplay this event. The only "pre-school b.s." here is you have no actual defense for doing so and as per usual you try to deflect by blaming me. That's your "schtick". The bulk of that mess you made is arguing over "TV" Once again you have put yourself into a situation where you must feel the need to lie. Out of seven places where I quoted you three of those quotes were in reference to posts you made about TV. Three out of seven isn't the "bulk" of them. The phrase "the bulk of something" means the main part, the largest portion, or the vast majority of a given thing. Stop throwing a tantrum.

Actually only two out of the seven comments had to do with watching it being televised. The third one was this with my following comment.............. Let me guess, you'll deny that supports it............ So now we're down to 2 out of the 7 comments I quoted of yours being about addressing posters claiming it was on TV. Once again, 2 out of 7 is not "the bulk" of anything.

Have a great day! I am tired of people supporting criminals. I would have no problem making executions public. Criminals have no rights. They gave up their rights when they became criminals. I have no desire to watch but I do have a desire for there to be more deterrents for crime. We need quicker punishments. Allowing someone 20+ years on death row is ridiculous. If they are found guilty and appeal and lose then free up the good air. Also, lawyers making winning and losing cases a sport. Justice is about finding the truth. If a lawyer knows their client is guilty and gets that person off or a judge is soft on crime and lets a criminal out and that criminal commits another crime, then that judge and lawyer should be held accountable. It is time this country gets hard on crime.

If you don't want to watch a live stream of it it, don't watch it. Fairly simple.
If you don't want to do something, don't. Fairly simple, really.
You have control over what you watch.

Which makes the federal government live streaming an execution right how again? It makes our government doing exactly what only terrorists done right how again?
Doing the wrong thing is never the right thing just because someone chooses not to watch it.

Don't like it? Don't watch it. There's a lot of stuff streamed that I don't want to watch. Hence, I don't watch it. I don't throw a hissy fit about it being streamed. I exercise my right to not watch it. On the other hand, you appear to think your thoughts matter more than others. Oh, yeah, spit.

I am tired of people supporting criminals. So you think supporting he be put to death but not have it live streamed is "supporting criminals? On what planet would that be true? I would have no problem making executions public. Criminals have no rights. They gave up their rights when they became criminals. So when did that mean somehow we have the right to do the wrong thing? When did them being barbarians make us being barbarians acceptable? I have no desire to watch but I do have a desire for there to be more deterrents for crime. The death penalty has shown not to be a deterrent to murder................. • Scientific Consensus: Over 88% of leading criminologists surveyed in studies published in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology state that the death penalty does not lower murder rates. • National Research Council Reports: A 2012 report by the National Research Council concluded that decades of research provide no credible evidence that capital punishment decreases, increases, or has any effect on homicide rates. • State Comparisons: FBI data shows that murder rates have consistently been higher in states with the death penalty than in states without it.• Certainty vs. Severity: Criminological studies indicate that the certainty of being caught and arrested is a far stronger deterrent to crime than the severity of the punishment. We need quicker punishments. Allowing someone 20+ years on death row is ridiculous. If they are found guilty and appeal and lose then free up the good air. So ignore the law and ignore the appeals process? Also, lawyers making winning and losing cases a sport. Justice is about finding the truth. If a lawyer knows their client is guilty and gets that person off or a judge is soft on crime and lets a criminal out and that criminal commits another crime, then that judge and lawyer should be held accountable. It is time this country gets hard on crime. Lawyers are bound to provide zealous, competent, and quality representation under ethical rules. The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees criminal defendants the right to the assistance of counsel, and the government must provide a public defender if the defendant cannot afford one. You don't have to like it. You don't have to agree with it. I can't say I disagree with how you "feel" is some regards. But you are proposing that attorney's ignore their code of ethics they take to be and continue to be a lawyer in the first place. This is what happens when you let your feelings rather than a guaranteed right of defendants control your emotions. Once again, nobody in this entire thread has been against this man getting the death penalty. But if your goal is to make a martyr out of him, which he has requested and show Muslim extremists America putting a man in a wheelchair getting executed by the firing squad this is the perfect way of doing it. You support handing them the most perfect recruiting tool anyone could think of. Sometimes thinking long term and looking at the totality of the consequences your choices produce is a better option than looking at it strictly from the short term gratification, emotional aspect that somehow makes you feel good.

I posted this above. Maybe reading it slowly would help you...... But if your goal is to make a martyr out of him, which he has requested and show Muslim extremists America putting a man in a wheelchair getting executed by the firing squad this is the perfect way of doing it. You support handing them the most perfect recruiting tool anyone could think of. On the other hand, you appear to think your thoughts matter more than others. Pay attention arch. Nowhere in this nation has a public execution take place in this country since 1937. It was found to be too barbaric and morally wrong. That's not "my thoughts on the matter". This man has actually requested to be executed so he may become a martyr. You wish to honor his request. Not only honor it but have it done in a way they can use it to recruit even more terrorists by showing the actual execution itself. That's not my "thoughts on the matter". Making superficial excuses why this is seemingly okay is not "my thoughts on the natter" either. Think before making this personal arch. That never turns out well for you. You are right about one thing. This is all fairly simple.

Sort of like turning a blind eye to the socialist/communists and Hezbollah because you want the votes inside the big tent?

Who is turning a blind eye to Hezbollah? Do you mean the same way you and so many others turn a blind eye to Netanyahu purposefully slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent women and children in Gaza by leveling entire civilian neighborhoods? Like that? You do realize you're just repeating the same thing people said about FDR because he wanted to help every day Americans too, right? Are you in any way related to Senator Joe McCarthy?

So don't watch it. It's as simple as that!!!!! You think it will be recruiting tool? You can't be that dumb, can you? Speaking of dumb since that's the road your unhinged self wants to go down. Of course they will use it as a recruiting tool. The Concern: Speaker Johnson and other Republican lawmakers expressed reservations that a public, livestreamed execution video of Hasan (who carried out the 2009 Fort Hood shooting) might be exploited by extremist organizations for propaganda and recruitment. Historical Context: National security and counterterrorism officials have long debated how high-profile American media coverage, videos, and state-sanctioned footage can be repurposed by militant networks in digital recruitment campaigns. And whatever we do, we should certainly act more like the terrorists do, am i right? Countries Known for Public Executions According to human rights groups like Amnesty International, judicial public executions in recent years have been rare and limited to a tiny handful of countries: • Iran: Frequently carries out public hangings or executions in specific criminal cases. • Afghanistan (Taliban-led): Occasionally conducts public executions (such as in sports stadiums) for capital offenses under Taliban rule. • North Korea: Historically known to occasionally hold public executions, though systematic and real-time verification is difficult. Johnson: Video of Hasan execution could be ‘recruiting tool for future terrorists’ https://thehill.com/homenews/house/6143686-johnson-questions-hasan-livestream/How dumb is that Mike Johnson and other Republican lawmakers? Am I right?

Honestly, I don't get the "don't watch it."
Obviously we all have that choice. That is not the point.
I don't feel the need to even explain it. Not worth the effort.
People have come to accept the Epstein files and Jan 6th. Like it is no big deal.
Sure let's bring back public hangings. I am sure we can get them rated PG.

All sorts of misdirection on this subject going on.
I don't see the relationship to or comparison to or even a whatabout that warrants a discussion about communism, Hezbollah or gay marriage.
Sticking to some of the facts:
- No one is defending the person or minimizing the atrocity that he committed. - No-one here appears to be suggesting he shouldn't face the death penalty. - What has been questioned / criticized is the announcement of the live-streaming of an execution. - The only place live streaming of executions has taken place is: Terrorists, Iran and North Korea. - This is not the same as a public hanging or public execution that may have happened decades ago.
For me it comes down to a simple ethical or moral perspective - and whether live streaming someone facing a firing squad for horrific crimes makes the country better, worse or makes zero difference to our society.
I can only speak for myself - I find it disgusting. I find it performative. I can only see the direction of travel for what "normal" might be in the USA as downwards. People might be able to watch any sort of depraved and sick thing they want to on the internet - of which surely some of which would be illegal - that does not mean the Government of the USA should add to that pond of filth. I'd ask:
- Does it deter anyone? No. - Who would watch this? Sick people. (pretty certain the victims families are already able to watch executions) - In what way does this benefit anyone/society? It doesn't.
It's no surprise to see the fake Christian cheerlead for this. I am sure Jesus would be 100% for live streaming this, especially if young children can be assured to access footage after the event.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Yes, somewhere in your addled mind people agreeing that he should be executed is "cheerleading for criminals". How many times were you dropped on your head as a child?

Where did he get those that have no problem with public execution is fake Christian? There are many soldiers out there that want retribution for their brothers and sisters in uniform that were killed by this man. The public live streaming is more for the military than anything else. Besides that, he is a criminal and criminals have no rights. If you do not want to watch do watch. I have no interest in watching. I will not watch but I understand why so many of our service men have a vested interest in watching and seeing retribution. Even though the righteous should never rejoice when an evil man dies. That person was still made in the image of God and an image bearer of God being killed is not a thing anyone wants. But his actions deserve death and his actions have determined his fate.

Where did he get those that have no problem with public execution is fake Christian? And what does that have to do with your comment about "cheerleading for criminals"? I can help you out with that. Absolutely nothing. There are many soldiers out there that want retribution for their brothers and sisters in uniform that were killed by this man. The public live streaming is more for the military than anything else. No, not it's not. The families of victims have always been permitted to witness executions. This would be no different and showing it to the public has nothing to do with that. You don't need to live stream it to the entire public to see just so military members can view it. Closed circuit would solve the very thing you are speaking of. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set of monitors rather than broadcasting it to the general public. For some reason you're buying into a false narrative here. Besides that, he is a criminal and criminals have no rights. If you do not want to watch do watch. I have no interest in watching. I will not watch but I understand why so many of our service men have a vested interest in watching and seeing retribution. This isn't about criminal rights in any way. As has been pointed out to you, victims families have already been given the right to witness executions of people who have killed their family members. Retribution is his execution. See how closed circuit viewing works again from above. That would totally address military members having the availability to see it. But his actions deserve death and his actions have determined his fate. And yet nobody in this thread has disputed that. Why do you ignore everything else posted in this thread regarding why this isn't as good idea to support this false narrative?

It’s all so nauseating. Musk is obviously at the top of my chit list but good lord all the special interest and PAC money poured into politics…this is not the form of government we were supposed to have. I don’t care if it’s Musk, Soros, Koch or Santa Claus. It’s awful.
They have supercharged their funding levels as well. Every time I watch a Browns game, my kids and I have to tolerate commercials about how one candidate wants us all to be transgender beastiality vegans and another about how that candidate wants to turn my basement into a data center.
When I talk about how exhausted I am, this is a big reason why.

More media sources means more money needed to put out the message. I don't know that politics is any more muck raking than it ever was. It's just that in the "old" days you had newspapers and 3 TV networks. That is all the public had, so the ads were concentrated there. Candidates didn't have to spread the message over dozens of channels. Since the ads were concentrated over 3 networks, they didn't have to buy as many spots because everybody was going to see them enough to meet saturation goals
People don't sit down and watch CBS all night long. They flip channels dozens of time per hour or two. Especially since people don't get up or order a kid to go change the channel. The number of Ads per station is probably about the same. It's just that we are watching many more stations a day, thus we are seeing the ads many more times a day.

Trump debates calling off livestream of firing squad execution after learning Fort Hood shooter was paralyzed President Donald Trump and his advisers are debating whether to call off plans to livestream the firing squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter, with Trump having remarked privately that he did not initially know that Nidal Hasan was paralyzed from the waist down, two sources familiar with the discussions told CNN. The president was not aware that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was announcing last week that the administration planned to let the public watch the execution, the sources said, and was not sure what to make of it at first. Trump was, however, firmly behind the decision to execute Hasan via firing squad, multiple officials told CNN, and he’s often defended it in public. And even after Hegseth posted on X on Thursday confirming that the Pentagon planned to livestream the execution, Trump polled several of his advisers and allies about how to proceed. It was during the those conversations that Trump learned Hasan was paralyzed from the waist down — he was shot in the back by law enforcement during the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood — and that he now uses a wheelchair, the sources said, which made showing the execution publicly less palatable to the president. One of the sources familiar with the discussions pointed to Trump’s deep understanding of imagery as a key reason why he may decide to ditch plans for the livestream. The president has also listened to the argument that a public execution by firing squad could serve as propaganda for foreign adversaries and terrorists to try to paint Hasan as a martyr, a Trump adviser told CNN. The White House on Tuesday referred CNN to the president’s comments on Saturday in which he acknowledged “two thoughts” about what to do and said he’d make the ultimate decision. “He was vicious. He was violent,” Trump told reporters about Hasan over the weekend. “There are two thoughts: Don’t show it and show it. Because, you know, by showing it, maybe other people won’t be doing what he did. So, I’ll make a decision ultimately. I know what the military would like to do, but we’ll make a decision.” The Pentagon is also reevaluating plans to fully livestream the execution, according to a source familiar with the discussions. Even if there is a broadcast of the event, the source said, it will likely be cut before shots are fired, in part, due to concerns that the moment could offer a propaganda opportunity for terrorist groups. Hegseth’s office has not responded to additional requests for comment about whether plans to livestream the execution have changed. The plan to livestream the execution has faced bipartisan backlash, and people across the Pentagon and the Army were caught off guard, CNN has previously reported. Trump told reporters on Friday that he was not involved but said, “I understand the decision,” adding that some people “want to set an example” by livestreaming the execution. Hegseth had initially recommended death by firing squad for Hasan — who was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding dozens of others — and Trump approved it. The execution, which is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, would be the US Army’s first such execution of a soldier since World War II and its first imposition of any death penalty on an armed service member in 65 years. A US-born citizen of Palestinian descent, Hasan said he was targeting soldiers he was set to deploy with to Afghanistan and wanted to protect the Taliban and its leaders from the US military. https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/13/politics/trump-fort-hood-shooter-livestream-execution

Trump makes decision on live-streaming Fort Hood shooter’s firing squad execution The livestream execution of the Food Hood attacker will not be livestreamed, President Donald Trump announced Thursday. The controversial execution of Nidal Malik Hasan will still continue, the president said. "Nidal Malik Hasan, a former U.S. Army Major turned traitor, is a very bad and evil man, who killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier, who died, along with her unborn son, and injured, very seriously, 32 more innocent people. Barack Hussein Obama's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and the radical Yemeni-American cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "When reviewed by his FBI terrorism task force, investigators concluded that Hasan's emails were not a threat. This assessment of the Obama Administration's actions was later considered to be a key intelligence failure. "With all of that being said, I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device. He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed. That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims." https://nz.news.yahoo.com/trump-mak...dD92RvMNKijL1r_ImIkaloRlYoaBwj0uaYko9itO
