Living as close to Nashville as I do unless you live in silence and black out the local news it's hard not to hear and know what's going on with the Titans.
First I have seen no indication they didn't draft a bust at QB. This kid just doesn't have it.
They have scored the fewest points per game in the NFL at 11.6 per game (84 total points through six weeks).
Their defense allows 21.8 points per game (tied for 11th in the NFL) So it's not that easy to score on them as one might think.
After the Titans just winning their first game Saleh may have turned a corner or it could be just an anomaly. Much of that win was with huge contributions from the special teams and their defense.
In actuality there are some similarities here. Both teams have pretty good D's and sputtering O's. But I think the Browns D is a little better and having a weak offense is better than having no offense.
What the Browns have managed to do is find a way to win when it looks like they will lose. What the Titans have done is just look like they're going to lose, and losing. Until last week.

I was glad that they won last week and got the monkey off their backs. I think it's super important to not let them feel any success offensively early in the game (we've had trouble doing that this year)

That said, would they be a buyer of Sanders now that he has an agent and all? What might their offer be? What would our ask be from the Browns? Being close to the team there, who do you see that we might like in player(s), say for a straight trade? Would you see a benefit in pushing trades for our QB to next year's draft? I ask because we seem to be re-working our roster on a weekly basis. Go, Browns!

I guess so much for the consensus number one pick.
The quarterback position is the NFL's mystery behind box one.
It would be interesting to playback all the reasons that the experts gave why he should be the first pick.
But of course accountability is a hide n seek game.
Looking at this year's crop of college quarterbacks. Good luck finding the right guy.

I don't think anyone would trade anything for Sanders other than some late round pick. And let's face it, he threw 7td's and 10 int's when he played last season. What would you give up for that?

It would be interesting to playback all the reasons that the experts gave why he should be the first pick. I think this sentence describes the entire problem. The people who promoted Sanders be the first pick are not experts. The experts left him on the draft board until the 5th round.

I think we'd be lucky to fetch a like-round pick for Sanders ... like a 5th TOPS. I'd bet it would be more like a pick swap .. their 5th for our 6th

In previous years I would have felt like this was a trap game - I would have expected the Browns to come out flat and play down to the level of our competition when they were bad .... this feels a bit different at the moment. I'm expecting the offensive struggles to continue ... I'm expecting DW to throw an interception or maybe two (it's a miracle he has only 2 Int so far) ... but I am expecting us to find a way to win.
Of course - based on the last 25 years that means I am going to be sorely disappointed on Sunday!! But ....

Just to add some drama that may shed some light on the conditions in the Titans locker room..... Source: Jordan Elliott attempted to retrieve gun after spat with Titans teammate Former Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jordan Elliott was attempting to retrieve a gun from his car following an altercation with a teammate during practice last week, a source confirmed to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The Titans released Elliott on Tuesday, citing an undisclosed "incident" that occurred at the team facility last Thursday. A source confirmed to Garafolo that, after a dispute with offensive lineman JC Latham, Elliott went to his parked car in the players' parking lot to get the gun. The gun never left Elliott's parking spot, the source told Garafolo. Multiple media outlets first reported Tuesday night that Elliott attempted to retrieve the gun from his car. Titans defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers helped to deescalate the situation, according to multiple reports. NFL rules stipulate that players are not allowed to possess firearms at any team or league facilities. Titans coach Robert Saleh told reporters before last Friday's practice that Elliott wouldn't be available because he was "dealing with personal stuff." Elliott did not make the trip to Indianapolis last weekend and was inactive for the Titans' upset victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Elliott, 28, signed a two-year deal worth up to $8.5 million with the Titans in the offseason after spending the previous two seasons with Saleh and the San Francisco 49ers. He appeared in five games this season with one start, registering 11 tackles. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50238315/source-jordan-elliott-attempted-retrieve-gun-car

I would hope we got our "trap game" out of the way vs the Jets. I also don't feel like it will be because we have historically (for whatever reason) handled our business vs weaker Titans squads (whereas we seem to like to do the opposite with weak Jets teams).

Are any teams experts? The topic at that point was about Sanders. I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were referring to Sanders. My bad.

The Titans picked Ward.
Are any teams experts? Weren't there stories out there that if the Titans hadn't chosen him, the Browns would have and not traded back? I think a lot of QBs over the past 25 years have gone in the first round, that in the 70s and 80s would have gone in Rds 2-4. Teams are desperate and they talk themselves into it. Draft "experts" are a joke. I don't recall which one, but I think it was Mel who said Johnny Football should go #1 overall. He also said he would retire is Jimmy Claussen wasn't a longtime successful QB. I thought he was going to start crying when Sanders didn't go in the first 2-3 rounds. Rosen was top ten and out of the league in less than about 5 years. If you keep drafting QBs in round 1, you don't get those picks back for OL, DL, WR, CB etc. Your team just gets weaker.

Not ambitious or that curious where SS is now. I have managed to maintain a low opinion of him as a starter. Not in the market for somebody to throw picks. Takes picks a-plenty and sacks as well. I would be holding him up to "compete" with the player he is to replace. Maybe a surplus player we could use for depth, for SS and a late, late pick next year like a 7th. I hate considering it, but he may have as much value now as he will have for draft capital. Wanted to see where you felt we were. I have a higher opinion of Gabriel overall.

Ward was the first pick and somebody else would have drafted right quick if the Titans didn't.
Quite honestly I don't know if anyone is an expert.
There are plenty of guys who know football and really study tape. There are 32 professional staffs that draft players and are paid a lot to do so.
When it comes to quarterbacks there are way more misses that hits.

There are certainly more misses than hits. And it's certainly true that the QB position has become far more critical in the modern era than it ever was before. There are cases where teams have won the SB with average QB's and a great defense but that certainly isn't the norm. That's why teams try so hard to find a solution to the QB position which helps lead to those misses.
As for who the experts are you do make a valid point. With as many misses as there are in the draft claiming anyone is an "expert" may be overstating it a bit.
But there are certain things we can be sure of. NFL teams have entire scouting departments. They have entire analytics departments. They spend millions upon millions of dollars to hire the best of the best in those fields.
So maybe it would be better to say that the 32 NFL teams by far have the most resources and the top people in their fields with which to make more informed decisions than the "draft gurus" in the media do.
General reply; I have no ideas how or why a thread about the upcoming game turned into yet another QB thread but here we are.

Titans picked Ward.
I have not even seen him play. The number one pick goes to the worse team.
They threw him out on the field right away. The team is probably not too good.
Hard to throw in the towel on Ward. I mean they have to give him a chance.
Here we are. And the word is "the Browns are a quarterback away."
Maybe we could trade them Watson for Ward? humor.
One game and then the next.

I get the entire concept of giving him a chance. And I'm by far no QB guru. I mean the light might still turn on for him. And most all teams give such a high pick at QB in the draft time to see what they have. NFL teams know a helluva lot more than I do.
But there are a couple of things I'm well aware of. The biggest one is what teams hope so see as a positive sign is for such a QB to learn and grow over time. For tangible progress to be made with experience and for the game to slow down for these young QB's. And with Ward thus far, he looks no better than the first time he stepped on the NFL field almost a season and a half ago. Which wasn't good.

What kind of team is behind him?
OL, RBs, WRs, TE's?
The offense is last in scoring.
