We're not going to win many more games with this type of play from the offensive line.

We're not going to win many more games with this type of play from the offensive line. It might be time to bump Barber to RT for a look. He played tackle in college. If it doesn't work like everything else, we know we can bump him back to guard where we know he can excel.

We're not going to win many more games with this type of play from the offensive line. The Oline was"bandaid-ed" from the start. Retreads were expected to plug the gap until a permanent fix could be achieved. IMO we'd have been better off to go with all rookies.(Fano. Barber, Brailsford etc). I wonder what Eotab would have thought. Man, I miss that guy....

it's a bad situation for our OL where our two best players are the inexperienced rookies and the three bad ones are the vets. It's just a hodgepodge thrown together.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

The guys they signed were always "Pass Strength" "Run weakness". None of this should come as a surprise except for the 8 sacks, which at least half of those were on Watson. This line does not have a move mountains attitude they need for the run game. If there isn't a sliver of a hole for the back, there isn't a sliver of hope. I don't need holes a bus can drive through, but when the majority of run plays there is a defender in the backfield to disrupt the play, you are going to struggle getting above 3 ypc.
It was a bad game in bad weather. I guess we should start praying for good weather for the rest of the year, since the prima donna doesn't seem to be able to play in inclement weather at his ripe old age of 31. His bones must have been aching from the dampness.
I have to say, this was a performance that, lucky for him, happened in New York. He probably mistook all the cheers when he made a bad play as, they love him there. If this happened in Cleveland, he might have hid in the blue tent until the press conference where he would have blamed the bad play on the decibel level of boos coming from the stands.

Maybe we should take KT Leveston off our PC and put him at one of our OG positions. He's big 335 lbs., nasty and a pretty good run blocker. Unfortunately. he's not too good at pass blocking.

While I do not think Watson played great if his receivers do not have 5 drops his stat line would not look terrible. There were 5 credited drops including 2 by Bond that hit him in stride and could have easily resulted in big plays.

And of he didn't have three fumbles. And if he didn't hold the ball so long that it led to about half of those eight sacks and......

Bard, I looked up last year's stats on Bond. It said he only had 1 dropped pass and 18 receptions. He was targeted 44 times. So that works out to 5-6 drops for 100 receptions. I don't think that's too bad. The thing is his drops Sunday might have cost us the game so you can't blame everyone for dumping on him. I still feel he's worth keeping on the team and developing.

Bond is fine. He had a terrible game in the rain. He has been sure handed, and those mitts have pulled in some really hard to catch balls.
This is no different than Szmyt and everyone wanting to run him straight out of town after one terrible game. We see how that has worked out.
If Concepcion is out next Sunday, I predict a breakout game for Bond.
Don't give up on him yet, dawgs.

Homewood, I didn't look up stats, just knew he had looked good with the little I had seen. I hoped he might take up some of Jeudy's slack. That game was not that solution. I truly do not care to see more of the work he had last week. Not giving credit for last year. It is The Bigs. Certainly not the only weakness.

RE Bond:
He had one pass thrown at him at about 100 MPH in a pouring rain, and another thrown behind him on a crossing route. I suppose they were both catchable ....... but both were made far harder on the WR than they needed to be.

I tend to agree. A little brutal to judge Bond based on that game. The body of work on Judkins being 'off' - or just not as good as we hoped before his injury is growing, we've seen multiple weeks of so-so running from him. Bond - one game in the wet isn't a good barometer of his ability.

I’m not making excuses for Judkins but it’s possible he may not be 100% back from his injury or it could be the new O system. Either way he does have talent and he did look good before the injury last season

Don’t like him, never will because of the off field stuff. Never watched him in Houston either, just here. And I’ll take his play for now as it is, but even if we get lucky and make the playoffs, I don’t want him extended without a franchise QB being drafted or otherwise acquired. This is fun, but he’s inconsistent as hell.

I agree DW is not a guy who will win a popularity contest.
However, I root for Cleveland not DW. There are plenty of bad people and the NFL has their share.
It is only natural to like guys like Nick Chubb and not like some others.
I want to win for Cleveland. It is my home town.
It would be great to find another QB like Bernie. A guy you love to cheer for.
But this is where we are. DW has not played well. But he has come up big in crunch time.
I hope we can find a guy in the draft who will be a quarterback to lead the Browns to win a Super Bowl.
That is the dream that I hope we all get to see.

He may be running a bit gushy with this O line. Runs hard. I want to see a Mack-Byner backfield and roll the pocket. Monken needs to help the line if DW is going to hold thebasl as long as he has. JMO

Just read this line on The Athletic
"Six games in, Deshaun Watson ranks 37th among quarterbacks in dropback EPA in the first three quarters, per TruMedia."
I think we can dispense with ANY talk about us retaining him beyond this year.... I have also read comments from informed posters here that there is a poison pill in the contract meaning we will not be signing him, period.

He's the best 4th quarter QB in the NFL and has four comeback victories. Don't get me wrong, that won't hold up over a full season; but if it did, not too many here would be complaining about his "first three quarter dropback EPA". At least I hope not.

Just to clarify.. the poison pill was being discussed in conjunction with the franchise tag. It is a fiscal impossibility they would be able to use the franchise tag because of the timing window of the pill.
Theoretically, a new contract could remove the pill as long as it is signed during the two day window.
The argument was ownership could find a way to extend his stay by utilizing the tools of the CBA. There are no viable CBA tools, only a contract extension.
Watson did his jail time and is receiving every penny the NFL didn’t take from him in fines. Watson is doing whatever he can to earn another contract… but there is zero chance he will sign one in Cleveland. He never wanted to be here, he now hates it here and he is ready to be out of here so he can bad mouth the city, the fans and anything else related to Cleveland he can come up with. WATSON will be the ultimate reason there isn’t a chance in hell of a new contract in Cleveland… thank God!

Thank you for the explanation on the contract situation ... I agree with you on Watson not wanting to be here and I also do not think his play will warrant him getting an offer from the Browns. I'm leaving the personality stuff aside - it's a factor but I prefer to not focus on it.

DW had a damn good game today.
His most complete game.
Super happy about the offense today. We ran the ball. Everyone got involved. Made big plays in crunch time once again.
It felt like a hard game that didn't need to be hard. But that is life in the NFL.

Loved the deep throws he made. Outside of one pass, I thought his decision making was pretty solid

Of course, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is clearly the frontrunner for that coveted postseason award, but Watson, after pulling off his fifth fourth-quarter game-winning drive of the season in Sunday’s 27-24 victory over the Titans, has to at least be in the conversation. He’s just the third quarterback since the 1970 merger to have a game-winning touchdown in each of his first five wins of the season, joining Troy Aikman in 1990 and Matt Stafford in 2016.

Watson and his agent can kill the poison pill at anytime. If the browns want him back and he wants to come back, the pill is not an issue. No, they will not tag him, it will be negotiated or we’ll move on. If he plays out the year and we go to playoffs, I think there will be talks. If he’s injured or falls apart, we’ll move on.
I hope taylon green (sp?) develops into a solid back up or starter. His athleticism intrigues me. I think we can safely ship Gabriel if there are takers before the trade deadline.

Just curious as to others' opinions. I guess the question could go in any thread...
Now that we seem to have an identity on offense, now that Watson seems to look comfortable in the pocket...
Which QB would translate quicker if he were injured? Sanders or Gabriel?

Tough question.
We really don't know because neither has played in this offense.
For the first time DW played the way this offense is structured. Monken wants balance. Getting Samson back with better OL blocking. Unleashed the run game. It made Judkins play his game.
It is important to spread the ball around. In order to do that the run game needs to work. KC in the slot, Fannin in seams routes, Jeudy and Boston X and Y means we play on the entire field.
That is the Monken offense. Threaten all parts of the field.
The quarterback has to see it, read it, and get the ball out. The plays come from the pocket.
DG, and SS have yet to prove they can do it. Not their faults. They need the opportunity to prove it.
But they will not get that unless DW gets injured.

That's a tough question. Sanders is prone to throwing picks and Gabriel never seemed to be comfortable enough to push the ball down the field even though he has the ability to do so. I don't have any clue how to address that question.

Which QB would translate quicker if he were injured? Sanders or Gabriel? We have an identity? Is being competent-to-good in the 4th quarter an identity? I'm not trying to be a ding-dong, I just can't seem to wrap my head around what we are doing (and how we do it) on offense. Along the same lines, Watson looks very uncomfortable for large stretches before settling in at the end of games. Based on what I've seen, I would expect Sanders to be the primary backup whenever both are healthy. I'm not sure he can scramble as well as Watson can, but he had already come a long way in terms of not taking back-breaking sacks. I think Monken and co. would do the same thing they're doing with Watson (putting him in plays/alignments that try to help him feel more comfortable out there).

Watson during the Titans game finally showed he can be a real QB. I don't really care about the last drive of the game theatrics. In this game, Watson finally was making fast decisions and getting that ball out with confidence and ZING! If not for dropped balls that were very catchable he might have gotten 400 yards. If he keeps showing progress like this then I either resign him for 2 years or transition tag him if he shows he can keep this level of focus up.
To me it's obvious Watson is gaining his confidence and love of the game back. His body language is just oozing the love of the game again. I think you have to place it all on Monken for knowing how to rebuild his mental fortitude. To me this all about Watson wanting it and Monken expertly coaching it. I don't like Watson as a human being for what he did in the past but he is married and settled down now and he clearly is putting his all into being the best QB he can be and has worked hard. I hate to say it but I am rooting for Watson to keep turning his life around and make the most of this second chance he has been given. I just hope we don't resign him to some long term crazy contract.

Having great run production which leads to virtually no pressure on the QB is a QB's best friend. It makes it much easier to get comfortable and in rhythm.
