MIAMI (AP) — Defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family arrived in Miami on Wednesday, after he refused to concede to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva then fled the country.

In a circuitous journey, Bolsonaro left for Argentina on Tuesday with his wife and two daughters, then traveled to Ecuador, according to Argentina officials and flight data. The 45-year-old senator and his family arrived in Florida a day after the Trump administration granted them United States visas. Bolsonaro, an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, visited the White House in May.

Bolsonaro’s father, Jair Bolsonaro, also fled to Florida after losing the 2022 presidential election to Lula before returning to Brazil three months later.

Flávio Bolsonaro is under investigation by Brazil’s Supreme Court, accused of corruption, money laundering and tax evasion. The court had ordered him to hand over his regular and diplomatic passports by noon Tuesday. It remained unclear whether he had complied, but allies said late Tuesday he also has an Italian passport.

Bolsonaro lands in Miami

Argentina’s migration authority said Bolsonaro, his wife Fernanda Antunes Figueira Bolsonaro, and his daughters Carolina Figueira Bolsonaro and Luiza Figueira Bolsonaro crossed into the country at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday. They entered via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, a primary border checkpoint linking Brazil to Argentina’s northeastern province of Misiones.

“Those who did so possessed valid travel documentation and faced no legal impediments to entering the country,” the Argentine migration authority said on X. The four boarded a private charter flight operated by aviation company Baires Fly S.A. at 11:30 p.m. local time, the authority said. According to the filed flight plan, the aircraft departed for Guayaquil, Ecuador.

His route via Argentina is almost certain to cause a diplomatic rift between Lula and Argentine President Javier Milei, a Trump ally who traveled to Brazil to take part in Bolsonaro’s campaign.

Flight tracking website FlightRadar24 showed a plane fitting the description of Bolsonaro’s landed in Guayaquil at about 4 a.m. local time, then took off minutes later for Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport.

The plane carrying Bolsonaro and his family landed in Miami at around 9:30 a.m. EDT.

Before they landed in Florida, Lula, who turned 81 on Tuesday, told dozens of supporters outside the presidential residence in Brasilia that he didn’t have precise information about Bolsonaro’s whereabouts, but said he had left Brazil.

“I regret that he left Brazil, because he could have stayed here and proven that the accusations are not true,” Lula said. “This act of leaving Brazil is shameful.”

Paulo Figueiredo, a close Bolsonaro ally who lives in the U.S., said in a short statement he couldn’t confirm information from foreign authorities, but that “Flávio Bolsonaro is well, in security and resting with his family.”

Figueiredo said there would be a press conference Thursday in Miami to discuss the case.

Representatives of Brazil’s government didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

Trump rejects Brazilian election results

Trump said early Wednesday that he would approve of Bolsonaro coming to the U.S., calling him and his family “fine people.”

“The election was really strange, and I thought it was terrible,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, after returning from campaigning in Texas on Tuesday. He did not elaborate, but stressed that he didn’t endorse the election results.

Leaders all over the world and the Organization of American States endorsed the result and congratulated Lula, who was reelected by a margin of about 4.4 million votes in the second and final round.

On Tuesday, Milei’s administration spokesman Adrián Ravier said “there is no asylum request (from Bolsonaro) and there is nothing more to add.”

Bolsonaro visited his father, who is under house arrest, before leaving Brazil

The defeated candidate was served with a Supreme Court order to surrender his Brazilian passports Monday. In a video, he said he received it outside the home where his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for attempting a coup following his 2022 election loss to Lula.

A Brazilian diplomat who was not authorized to speak about the matter publicly told The Associated Press that Bolsonaro used an Italian passport to enter Argentina and did not leave records in Brazilian check points, as they are not required to exit.

The diplomat said Brazil’s federal police were not monitoring Bolsonaro when he left his home in Brasilia as he did not have any warrant for arrest from the Supreme Court.

Flávio Bolsonaro said in a video Monday that he was attempting to organize opposition to the election results among his congressional colleagues. His eight-year term as a senator expires Jan. 31, 2027.

Brazil’s Supreme Court is investigating Bolsonaro for allegedly using a sports betting company to launder fraudulent deductions from government pensions paid to senior citizens. In a separate case, he is accused of accepting millions of dollars from a disgraced banker.

Senior U.S. State Department officials and President Donald Trump confirmed the administration would approve the visas, drawing sharp criticism from Brazilian officials who accused Washington of interfering.

When trump hands out visas he is not handing out visas to their best people. Some are criminals and I suppose some are good people.

Two election deniers thick as thieves.

Communists stole the election and want to put their competitor in prison. Typical socialist behavior. The lawyer that filed the charges is a transy if that tells you anything.

It appears that all depends on who the criminals are. There may be en exemption for election deniers we are unaware of.

When they tell you who they are believe them. After what we've been witnessing in this country I wouldn't put anything past them. Especially not this one.

Even if he is trolling look at the depths he is willing to claim he stands for in order to accomplish it.

Look at what a scum bag he is willing to make himself appear to be just to "pwn the libs".

This is who they are now. This is a man who claims to be a Christian and have Christian values then displays that he has none. It has become their brand and I'm thrilled he is putting it out there for all to see.

A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior, and seeks to follow his teachings in their daily life.

I'm not sure Jesus taught the slaughter of innocent women and children. Or hate speech. And I don't think he was big in judging others..... But what do I know. Maybe there's a vengeful, hateful, bile filled Jesus in one of the denominations?

Hate is actually accepting their behavior and not calling it out. If a child is running with a knife love is not accepting the behavior love is correction. Hate is accepting when someone is going to get hurt. Think about that!

So then would you say the same about a nations leader who wipes out civilian neighborhoods intentionally killing tens of thousands of innocent women and children?

Does that include defending a woman being assaulted by men instead of calling her names?

It seems you pick and choose what to hate and what not to hate.

And using the name of Christianity in order to make excuses for doing it is not attractive.

Hamas didn't force Netanyahu to intentionally kill tens of thousands of women and children. Doing the very thing you say makes others terrorists only serves to make you a terrorist as well. Excuses to claim otherwise doesn't change that.

I can not help that someone convinced you that calling out the political leader of Israel means someone is antisemitic. He didn't even get the votes of the majority of Israeli voters. They must be antisemitic too. Grow up.

Yes he did. he just did get the most votes. He just did not get enough votes to form a government. He now has to try to form alliances to get above 61 to form a government.

No he did not. I know this is difficult for you but majority means more than half. He did not get more than half of the votes. He got well above the majority of the vote in the last election and much less than the majority of the vote in this election.

Latest numbers: Recent projections have Netanyahu’s bloc taking 53 seats, a drop from the 68-seat coalition he led in the outgoing Knesset. The opposition bloc is set to take 48 seats, while Arab parties are projected to win a record 19 seats.

Netanyahu only got 53 seats. Far less than half and 15 less than in the last election. I bet you didn't even know there were Arab parties in Israel did you? That leaves 67 seats that he lost total. That's more than half that refused to vote for Netanyahu.

Who will actually rule Israel will be decided by which of the two top candidates those Arab parties decide to align with. So it's the Arab parties that will decide who rules Israel. Ironic isn't it?

I cannot help your antisemitism.

It took a lot longer than I expected for someone to default to the "anything less than total capitulation to Netanyahu = antisemitism" argument. It's a weak counter that only gets used as a sorta trump card when the facts are clearly leading to a lost argument.

This leader oversaw policy that resulted in decades of widespread famine in Gaza prior to 2023, and then responded to the Hamas attacks with his own attacks that have killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and further deteriorated public health with additional blockades. Conveniently ignoring the decades of history before the 2023 attacks as well as the response that was orders of magnitude larger than the primary attack just to try to justify Israel's part in the conflict is wild stuff.

You must have missed it. He's been claiming that if you don't support everything Netanyahu does including starving children and slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent women and children that you are antisemitic for a long time now. But is it really much different than claiming everyone who does not support trump is anti American? Because that too seems to have caught on.

Supporting terrorists over a sovereign country is antisemitic and sick. Choosing to vote against Netanyahu or Trump is not Antisemitic or anti-American. Choose to vote for Socialists and Muslims... is antisemitic and anti-American. Muslims are a scourge on the Earth and will only bring death and destruction wherever they go. They are all of their father and all he does is steal, kill, and destroy. Socialist in the Globalist movement is trying to gain power and they need the United States to fall to gain that power and once they do, they will do what always happens socialist turn into full blown communists and people's freedoms are taken from them.

You sound like you are campaigning against FDR. You sound like Senator Joe McCarthy.

Should I say all Christians are white nationalists because a portion of Christians are? Should I say they are all racist because the Klan is Christian? Let me tell you something. Not all trump supporters are Nazis but all Nazis in this country are trump supporters. According to your logic that must make you a Nazi too.

I don't support any leader of any nation intentionally killing innocent women and children or non combatants. I don't support any religious group killing innocent civilians. That's means I condemn both Hamas and Netanyahu for their actions. You pick and choose when it's okay to do so based on their religion. My issue is not with the people of Israel. My issue is with Netanyahu. Just like all Christians are not white supremacists, not all Muslims are violent extremists.

I'm sorry you have been so brainwashed you can't wrap your mind around that simple concept.

I don't like trump either and that doesn't mean I'm anti American.

This is what it looks like when the gullible take things as their names present them to be instead of what they are.

I am a Christian that does not believe this nation should be controlled strictly according to my religious beliefs. I'm a Christian who does not believe the laws in this country should inflict my religious beliefs on others. I'm a Christian who does not believe an entire religion such as Muslims are all evil based on the most extreme portion of their religion. If I thought in those terms I would feel the same way about Christians and I do not.

I'm a Christian that believes this country is ruled by the constitution and not my religion. I'm not "your kind of Christian".

I decided to get some other points of reference and asked multiple sources whether this is a hardcore racist comment: "Muslims are a scourge on the Earth and will only bring death and destruction wherever they go. They are all of their father and all he does is steal, kill, and destroy."

ChatGPT:
> Yes. This is explicitly and extremely racist and anti-Muslim hate speech. It demonises an entire religious group, portrays all Muslims as inherently dangerous and destructive, and attributes criminal and violent behaviour collectively to them. It is sweeping, dehumanising language that promotes hostility towards people based solely on their religion.

Deep Seek:
Yes — this is hardcore racism. It dehumanizes all Muslims as a "scourge," claims they inherently bring "death and destruction," and asserts they share an evil nature ("all of their father... steal, kill, and destroy"). That is sweeping, essentialist hatred against an entire religious group.

Claude:
Yes. The statement is a clear example of anti-Muslim bigotry, often described as racism because it racializes a religious group. It dehumanizes Muslims as a “scourge,” asserts that every member of the group shares an inherent evil nature, and predicts violence from them collectively. Criticizing a religion’s ideas is legitimate; condemning all of its followers as innately destructive is not.

Gemini:
Yes, that statement is a clear instance of extreme religious hatred, bigotry, and dehumanizing hate speech. It uses blanket dehumanization ("a scourge on the Earth") and falsely attributes violent intent and criminality to an entire group based on their faith.

Then - Why it is considered racism
Racialization: Even though "Muslim" is a religious label, people are often targeted based on perceived ancestry, appearance, or ethnicity (e.g., skin color, names, dress). The statement treats "Muslims" as a single, inherited group with inherent, biologically or culturally fixed traits ("all of their father"). This is the core mechanism of racism .

Legal & Institutional Recognition: The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has explicitly included Muslims among groups affected by racist hate speech . Many scholars and equality bodies treat anti-Muslim hatred as a form of cultural racism .

It saddens me to see people use their religious beliefs to excuse outward racism, hate or discrimination against anyone else whether they believe as they do or not. No mater what color of skin they have, what their religion is or where they are from there is no excuse for this type of language. It's why as a Christian myself I in no way wish to be associated with their type. I don't know what book they are reading but the Bible I read tells me to conduct myself totally different than that. It just adds to the overwhelming evidence I have seen that for the most part organized religion is and has been bastardizing Christianity.

The transition from textbook racism towards Muslims to emphasizing the alleged positives of the current Christian Nationalist movement reads like one of those 'gotcha' clips where comedians facetiously depict certain stereotypes and then capture the worst responses they can find.

I stand by what I wrote. The entire religion is based on hate. The koran tells them to kill infidels. Everywhere that religion spreads death and destruction follows.

Still a hate filled and racist statement .... But I guess we can say the same about Christianity then?

Estimates for the total death toll of historical conflicts involving Christianity vary widely—ranging from several million in specific campaigns to broad macro-historical studies that tally upwards of 119 million to over 170 million deaths across 2,000 years of civilization-level political and religious violence, though historians note these figures mix religious motivations with complex political, economic, and territorial factors

Just show me where Christians are instructed to kill? The faith that Muslims follow does. If you look around the world you can see that faith in action. Oct 7th 2023. Nigeria, 9/11, see Europe as an example, etc.... Now you can put your head in the sand and say many years ago there were crusades. That is like saying the US is terrible because once upon a time there was slavery in the US.

Historical and Contextual View:

• Passages like Sura 9:5 ("kill the polytheists wherever you find them") followed immediately in the text (Sura 9:4) by an exception for those who honored their treaties and did not attack.

• Scholars argue these verses addressed specific hostile tribes engaged in war against the early Muslims, mirroring laws of armed conflict in ancient times.

• The Quran explicitly prohibits the killing of innocent people, stating in Sura 5:32 that killing one person unjustly is like killing all of humanity.

• Verses like Sura 60:8 instruct Muslims to deal kindly and justly with non-believers who do not fight against them or drive them from their homes.

• Sura 2:256 explicitly states, "There shall be no compulsion in religion".

Does it define innocent? To some infidels are guilty of a crime against God.

It's great those words are written. Unfortunately, a large portion of the religion seems to not pay attention. I know some say Islam is a peaceful, loving religion. I am sure that is true for many, but a seemingly larger portion don't agree. I don't see the peaceful ones speaking out against the radicals who have taken over the religion. I am not even sure it can be called a religion at this point.

There's 2 billion Muslims in the world. And your belief is most of them aren't peaceful.

Our of interest, how many Muslims do you know or have spoken to?

It is most certainly is a religion. As with all religions throughout history there are those among that religion who have warped and bastardized it to be something it was never intended to be. The same as been done with Christianity throughout history at different points in time. Millions of people throughout history have been killed and slaughtered in the name of Christianity as well.

You call it "taken over the religion". At this time there are just over two billion Muslims in the world. There is a difference in taking over the headlines and taking over the religion. What makes the news and what gets shown to many are just the extremes of the Muslim religion, not the religion as a whole. You know how that works. Only the most extreme things hit the news. It makes for ratings.

I get that. We never see what we haven't been shown or haven't looked for ourselves. There are a lot of peaceful Muslims leaders who have spoken out and this is by no means a compete list. It doesn't even account for the peaceful Muslims around the globe that speak out against it................

• Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri: The Pakistani-Canadian Islamic scholar issued a comprehensive 600-page Fatwa on Terrorism in 2010—endorsed by Cairo's Al-Azhar University—declaring that suicide bombings and terrorist attacks have no place in Islamic law and branding terrorists as unbelievers (disbelievers of peace).

• Grand Mufti Ibrahim Abu Mohamed: The Grand Mufti of Australia has repeatedly issued public statements and fatwas condemning violent extremist acts, including the 2014 Sydney hostage crisis and subsequent acts of terror, emphasizing that such violence contradicts Islamic teachings of peace.

• Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan: The prominent Indian Muslim scholar and former head of the Delhi Minorities Commission has publicly condemned mass atrocities and acts of terror committed by militant groups like the Pakistani Taliban, calling them "a blot in the face of Islam".

• Imam Azam Akram: Local and international community imams (such as Imam Akram in Chicago and various leaders organized through groups like the Islamic Network Group) regularly hold interfaith forums, lectures, and condemnations explicitly rejecting ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and domestic radicalization.

• Hassan Rouhani: As president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani condemned international extremist massacres—such as the 2015 Paris attacks claimed by ISIS—publicly labeling them "crimes against humanity".

• Jama Masjid Trust (Delhi): The leadership of India’s historic Jama Masjid explicitly refused Islamic burial rites to the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, stating that those who commit such heinous acts against innocent people cannot be considered true followers of Islam.

The issue as it seems to me is reporting things like this doesn't help feed into the agenda that you seem to be convinced of.

A fraction of all Muslims are actually violent extremists. Convincing people to believe otherwise seems to be the ultimate goal.

I never said most. I said a large portion. I will say that places like Iran, where the religion has become the political voice, it seems like most. It also seems like there isn't a lot of other Muslums speaking out against, but I do understand it is probably out of fear.

How many Muslims do I know or have spoken to? I don't know just like I don't know how many Jews, or for that matter the numbers of Christians I know or have spoked with. I don't make it a point to ask people about their religious belief.

Maybe it wasn't your intention - but you said some are peaceful but a larger portion don't agree and my understanding was you are talking about the Muslims' themselves. If more don't agree that it's a peace based religion that would make them the majority... hence my comment.

I think much of the opinion that paints muslims and their religion as anti-peace and hateful is based on inaccurate information and limited exposure. It's easier to point and blame and hate than it is to try to understand and accept. The history of the USA's actions in the middle east have certainly fostered and helped feed terrorist organizations. Whether that is because of leaders lying and spinning facts doesn't absolve some of the interference that the USA (the UK too) engaged in and some of the reaction it caused.

I thought Pits response was pretty reasonable in highlighting some of the voices within the Muslim world that speak out against violence.

It's interesting that Saudi is considered an ally - they are 93% Muslim. Qatar 68% Muslim - you and Day of the Dawg wanted to keep the 747 they donated or saw nothing wrong in accepting it. Add UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkey .... there is a long long list of Muslim countries we treat as allies. Hardly seems reconcilable to brand them as being largely filled with hate/terrorist/ant-Christian.

The religion is based on hate and intolerance. The people and the countries they run have a right to exist. they have a right to practice their religion. But to call Muslims anything other than a religion of hate is misleading. Most of those counties support terrorism including the countries we consider allies at this time due to peace treaties. The Muslims do not believe in Israel's right to exist. They consider any person that is not a Muslim as an infidel, and we know what their Qaron says they should do to infidels. Look at what is currently happening in Nigeria. There is an actual genocide happening there yet no outrage by the United Nations. Why do you think that is? Remember 9/11? Tell me what the US ever did to the Taliban? In the 1980's Iraq was considered our Allies. In the 1990's our enemy. Also, in the 1980's Afghanistan was our allies in the 2000's our enemy. Iran has been our enemy the entire time. Look at what is happening in Europe. That is an example of what happens when you allow this culture into your country. That culture is anti-American, anti-peace. All it knows is to infiltrate and then dominate.

And that's what it boils down to. You have Iran and Gaza. Even most of the groups that are anti-American are connected with Iran.

The population of Iran is 93 million people. As we already know many Iranians themselves do not support their government. The entire population of Gaza is 2.2 million people. 47% of that population are under 18 and that doesn't even include the women.

Considering there are over 2 billion Muslims that's an extremely small percentage of them.

It makes this totally false. This once again goes to show that often times the perception one forms is not the reality.
