Many didn't see a problem with this from last October...But I did...And it's nuttin' against his not being ALL Cleveland...When he went to a Playoff game with a Yankee hat on it said ALOT...I can't even say for sure he realizes not too long ago that the Yankees to the Indians were like the Steelers to the Browns...
That was a SLAP IN THE FACE to every Tribe fan in the stands...
That tells me he has ZERO allegiance to the CITY...Now comes the bucks and the extra contracts beyond Bball...The exposure...The OPPORTUNITIES...He's already said he wants to be the 1st BILLIONAIRE professional athlete...
Ain't happenin' in Cleveland man...Don't fool yourself with the love we all have for em'...
People like you irk the hell outta me......you and others have no clue what's going on here in NE.Ohio.....Oh my god.....he's sporting a Yankee's hat...he's going to NY......oh my god...his favorite football team is the Cowboys......he's going to quit b-ball and don shoulder pads for the 'boys....you have no idea what love he gets in Akron(let alone Cleveland)......you going crazy because of what the"Dayton Daily News" is telling you or you're getting information from the great Stephen A.(THE SAME FELLOW THAT SAID and i quote"I HAVE TALKED TO HIS PEOPLE AND HE WILL NOT SIGN AN EXTENSION AFTER HIS 1ST ONE EXPIRES"....what else did you say....he wants to be the first billionaire.....how can i chop you down even more......my wife's boss is a billionaire(he employers her at NetJets),he happens to be from a small city..... matter of fact its much smaller than Cleveland(it might not be bigger than Akron)he's from......are you ready.....Omaha,Nebraska and he happens to be LeBron's James good friend and adviser......WARREN BUFFET!!!!!!
I don't usually respond to folks on websites, because its mostly rumors and folks who have nothing else to do,but start up stuff....but i couldn't resist......maybe you outta stick to your local team(s) Dayton Flyers or Sinclair Community College, but your team is probably Clark State.....right? I would throw more change-ups at you, but i'll send you back to your dugout and wait for the next batter........ Good day.....

Bron wants the spotlight in the Big City...I give it a 90% shot he ends up in the NY/NJ area with his Rap Bud...
Ahh, that's what everyone was saying just before he signed his last contract here.. There will always be speculation that he's gonna go for the bright lights big city thing and he may, but this Gilbert guy that owns the Cavs isn't afraid to spend money... So I wouldn't put the odds so much in favor of him leaving..
Besides, he may not have liked the moves that the team made recently, but from the untrained eye (mine) and from someone that admits to knowing next to nothing about B Ball (me), that team appeared to play possessed last night..

I was at the game Sunday - 3 rows behind the media table. It was sweet! Even got a tee shirt tossed my way. I made a Randy Moss type catch to intercept it from the row behind me. The game was awesome - the crowd was buzzing with energy way before tip off. I think once they practice and get more game time in as a unit this WILL be an elite NBA team. It seemed like Wally was unsure of his role on the floor a couple times and he was really upset with missing those shots early. The crowd was so pulling for him to hit that first one. It looked like he was taking his shot before getting set. I think there were some nerves involved. Joe Smith is SOOOO much better than Donyell. He hustles on every play and loves playing the game. He was truly having fun out there. I think that pass from LeBron caught him off guard. He seemed surprised how open he was. I LOVE having Ben!! Averaging around 5 points a game with the Bulls so far this year and last night put up 12. West plays with a lot of energy. He seemed quick and pretty aggressive on defense. In relation to the rest of the team he appeared small on the floor - but with those tats he looks like a tough guy. Something tells me this is gonna be fun! go cavs!

I'll go ahead and say it...Lebron is going NOWHERE!
First of all, he is too attached to his mom to leave her behind, and she aint going nowhere.
Secondly, there is no greater feat in sports than to take a team like the CAVS to the promised land. Lebron thrives on the challenge. His legacy will be cemented if he delivers a championship to Cleveland. That's way better than being scrutinized by the NY media in the so-called bright lights. The Knicks, in the words of Stephen A., are terrible. No amount of money can convince a free agent to sign with them. They're going to be terrible for quite a bit.
Thridly. Lebron and Jay-Z are friends...it does not mean that he wants to work for Jay-Z. Hell, Jay-Z just got let go as President of Def Jam records. If he can't handle running a record label, and that's the business he's in, how in the world is he gonna run a pro sports team. I wouldn't want to be part of that sinking ship.
Fourthly. As has been said many times...who cares what baseball team he likes. Who cares that he wore a yankee hat to an indians game...in support of the team he likes. That's what any good fan would do. Unlike C.C., as was already mentioned. One thing that should always be remembered...LEBRON IS NOT FROM CLEVELAND!!!!

Well, I don't know if you have a valid point or not.. really,, all of what you said makes sense about Jay Z and the Knicks and all of that.. so it may end up being the case.. But to me it's MONEY.. That's what it's going to take and right now, I'm pretty much guessing that because Gilbert paid 375 million for the team and he knows that the biggest thing he has going for him is LBJ.. I think he'd pay him anything he has to to keep him here. Who could argue with that logic.. I happened to go out for lunch today,, and I bought a Akron Beacon Journal to read... Here's the story that I found most intersting about Gilbert and how he thinks.. Quote:
Owner says money not No. 1 concern when making deal Gilbert puts return to Finals at top of list of concerns for Cavs
By Brian Windhorst Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Monday, Feb 25, 2008
CLEVELAND: One of the first things Dan Gilbert said when he bought the Cavaliers was that ''money follows, it doesn't lead.''
It's one of his so-called ''isms'' from the way he operates his businesses. He's backed that up for three years now. In fact, his third anniversary of taking over the franchise is this week. But it was certainly personified in last week's major trade.
Gilbert doesn't speak with the media often, but he did before Sunday's game to explain his thinking about giving the green light to expand his payroll and luxury tax bill to bring aboard the four new players, including Wally Szczerbiak and Ben Wallace, who make a combined $27 million this season.
''I thought it was pretty important to do something,'' Gilbert said. ''We got to the Finals with this team, but the competition got harder and it was going to be a bigger challenge than last year.''
Gilbert said that he's not spending as much as people think. Because the Cavs are just responsible for paying the new players for the final 27 games of the season, he's only actually paying about $1.2 million more in the prorated salaries than he would have before the trade.
However, the Cavs will have to pay luxury tax on the entire additional $4.7 million added to their total payroll and that is a dollar-for-dollar penalty. The Cavs payroll is currently about $80.85 million — third in the NBA. The NBA's ''soft'' salary cap is $57.63 million and the luxury tax threshold is $67.865 million. That puts the current tax bill, the first-ever in franchise history, at a shade under $13 million.
''We are trying to build something here,'' Gilbert said. ''You pay $375 million for a franchise and then break even for a couple years. You can't start getting cheap now. It's a big commitment, but before we even look at money, we look at what is right basketball-wise first. If you do it money first, you may start getting (the front office) gun-shy even thinking of ideas.''
In the locker room
• As a part of team chemistry building, the Cavs hosted a late-night dinner Friday following the victory over the Washington Wizards. LeBron James got up and gave a passionate speech/toast welcoming his new teammates and describing his hopes for great things in the future. Several players were still talking about it a day later.
• Wallace knows he's taken some heat for the Bulls' struggles this season and for not living up to the huge free agent contract he signed in 2006. His response: ''If someone wants to throw me under the bus, that's fine,'' Wallace said. ''I've been there before, I know what it smells like.''
• The Cavs gave each fan a poster welcoming the four new players, a last-minute gesture that was complicated to pull off. Also, the Cavs brought out the famous Big Ben chime when introducing Wallace. It was a sound effect in Detroit when he was with the Pistons and one the Cavs used to mock when he missed free throws in Cleveland.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a little insight into the mind of Gilbert that we rarely get a chance to see. Again, let me repeat, I know very little about basketball so that's NOT what I'm confident commenting on,, But on the business of business, I'd say that based on this article, he'll find a way to put enough coin in LBJ's pocket that he won't leave..
That's just a guess... maybe LeBron will like NYC better... in the end, it's just my guess..

I don't think Lebron's decision will have anything to do with money. He will never get paid as much as he can make outside of basketball. If money was truly the issue, he would've signed the max deal. It's about winning with Bron...as far as I can tell. Money comes and goes...winning lasts forever!

What Gilbert means by that is not what your intending I think.. He's saying that in order to make money, you have to spend money.
The Dolans did the exact opposite of what Gilbert is doing. The Dolans stripped the Indians to the bone, peared away at the costs and got thier payroll down in the 20+million dollar range and then started to build again.
Gilbert is saying basically, You have to spend money to make money...
Different thinking altogether...

I knew what he meant...but that saying can be taken in different ways, and it helped to bolster my point, that in Lebron's case, the money will be there, but I don't think he's putting it before what he wants to accomplish...he said he wants to bring a ring home to Cleveland...I believe him. Money can't buy that ring...at least the money he gets paid. That's where Gilbert comes in, and that's how that saying gets flipped around.

but for people that think he's automatically gone? i find that laughable...
and i've been asking this question for 2 years now... if lebron wants to play in a bigger market, then why did he extend for 3 years? why didn't he just decline and play out his rookie contract? i still haven't gotten an answer from anyone who thinks he's going to new york...
hmm, you are not getting many takers on this Lebron?

My problem is that this thread got way off topic. I really don't understand those guys bad-mouthing DnD the way they did. I thought Ref 1 warned everyone of that type of behavior?

Let me try. Hey YTown, thanks for posting that article. Who was the author? He sure was positive about the trade. I got the impression he wasn't a local guy. Was he?
You know, the more I think about this trade, the more I think that it really was a good trade. I really think we are a legit contender now. Let's face it, we have the best player in the east and our team is now pretty strong about 9 deep. We match up well w/Boston and we are no longer afraid of Detroit.
It seemed that we had no shot at going back to the Finals this year, but now, I think we have a legitimate shot.

Often the fate of a 5 page thread ......
Anyway ..... I'm excited to see what the "new look" Cavaliers will look like in a couple of weeks. I think that the playoffs will be very. very interesting if the team can gel the way I think it will.

I'm looking forward to Wednesday's game against Boston. I think this trade really helps the Cavs match-up with Boston much, much better than Detroit.

You know what is interesting, YTown? It seems that all the Cavs, new and old alike, seemed to be energized by this move. I think it will light a fire under these guys and give them the belief that they truly are contenders. And I think they have the right mixture of guys to actually make that come true.

Do you think that we are going to have a problem matching up w/Detroit's guards?
And who is going to match up w/Rasheed when Andy isn't playing or in the game? Will Rasheed be able to shoot right over the top of Wallace? What about Smith? Does he have any defensive game, or not?

I think the problem that this trade leaves the Cavs with is matching up with bigger point guards, like Chauncey Billups. The quick guys West can stay with, but unless they are going to play Eric Snow at the point, West would get backed down too easily. That doesn't add in the fact that you are counting on Sasha matching up with Rip Hamilton as well. The post in Detroit doesn't quite scare me as much. I'll take Wallace on Wallace without a problem. Its not a dream match-up, but it will work. I'm just really concerned about a Billups-West/Gibson match-up. Hughes could take that, West really can't.

the first part of your question worries me... because guard play with detroit is pretty damn good...
i honestly think with the way tayshaun prince struggled mightily against the cavs last may that i'd consider trying to see if lebron can shut down rip hamilton...
as far as chauncey billups goes, all you have to do is contest his shots, don't leave him open... he's mr big shot, but he's not that great...
as far as who draws sheed, i would say ben wallace...
it's an intriguing matchup, but if the cavs can hang with detroit like they did last year, inside of 2 minutes, it would be all cavs, too much outside presence, too much inside toughness, and too much of #23...
i've been saying most of the year that boston is overrated... they aren't deep, and to be honest, they aren't really that tough...
i think the cavs have a legitimate shot to take the whole thing... everyone is salivating over the lakers, i honestly think we could take them in a series, we matchup very very well with them... that would make for one hell of a series...
remember when the cardinals went to the world series against the red sox, who just came off of winning 4 straight against the yankees after being down 0-3? they were clearly outclassed, but 2 seasons later, they came back and won their championship
i think that's how the cavs should look at things, sometimes it's your year, and sometimes it's not, and sometimes it's about luck...
i can't wait til the playoffs, it should be a fun watch

I think so too.
Plus, you have some guys who were on contending teams ..... only to have those teams kinda fall apart, for whatever reasons. Wallace, Smith and Szczerbiak are all starting to get up there in age ... and all likely realize that a(nother) championship isn't guaranteed them. Moving from bad teams to a contending team has to pump you up. Then you add in a guy like West who wanted an opportunity, and now has one ..... plus the remaining players who see that the front office is going to do whatever they can to win a championship, and that they bring in some pretty respected guys like Wallace, Smith and Szczerbiak ...... and I think that players can't help but get excited.
I thought that the 3 biggest weaknesses on this Cavaliers team prior to the trade were an inside defensive enforcer, a guy who can knock down a 15 foot shot consistently, and a guy who can hit from outside when the defense collapses when James drives to the hole. I think we have all 3 of those needs addressed. We'll have to see how our perimeter defense plays out when Sasha gets back ...... but I think we have upgraded the team overall as a net result.
