I agree 100%. I just have to think Samuel has something to do with it. I can't think of another explanation.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Given how under-market his contract is, he may want a new deal? That might explain it. Who knows.

I heard they would unload one of the two.......Brown or Sheppard. It appears as they chose to unload Sheppard.

Why? The guy is a liability. He's putrid against the run, and plays about one good game a year.

Davis is solid, and he helps keep our defense together. D'Q is starting to show some leadership ability, but right now, Davis has one more year here atleast as a Brown.
I'm sure he is one of the guys Phil would be willing to trade, but at the same time, he is a big body, and whether u like it or not, he does pose a threat to offenses.
He's not the fastest LB out there, but he IS a solid defensive player, and thas what we need.

I think Davis Plays to the tune that the rest of the D plays. When we had a better D Davis Played better. When we had a crappy D Davis played Crappy.

j/c.... Sorry to not contribute to the "Should A. Davis be traded" talk. But, I'm going to ask a question about free agency Anyone heard if LaBoy is still in Cleveland? What's the latest on him?

I truly think he's earned the right to retire a Brown...he's been with us through some rough times, when he was our only worthwhile LB.
Even if his minutes decrease significantly.

This is awesome news, LaBoy isn't that old and if he blossoms he could be a really great LB for years to come. I'm really trying to find things on this guy because honestly I've never seen him play. Maybe I'll try to look at what his projections were coming out of college. Anyway, if he's staying, you all know what that means, great job Phil. This guy is amazing, they need to start making Phil Savage hats and shirts, same goes for Romeo.

just clicking...
If any of you are an ESPN Insider, I think their Free Agent Tracker is nice a little tool to get a feel for how the players grade out as NFL players. I don't know anything about LaBoy, so I just went over and checked his grade. He graded out as a 68. Basically, that boils down to Average Starter ... valuable player ... may not take the next step.
If you grade out in 70s, they label you as a solid starter close to being an oustanding player.
So 68, in my mind, isn't too bad. Put a guy with a 68 grade in the right system, and that could be magnified.
Anyway, just found this interesting. Some other grades of note:
DA - 74 J.Lewis - 74 Corey Williams - 78 (Nice!)
Grades 80-89 mean Outstanding Player Grades 90-100 mean Elite Player
I only saw one over 90 and that was Moss. The grading is strictly for Free Agents but is how they grade as a football player, not in relation to other Free Agents.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

actually, 68 is better thanI expected for a situational player
I just read a profile on LaBoy as a prospect labeling him a great 3-4 OLB tweener prospect. The profile mentions that he doesnt fit the 4-3 and should not be drafted by such a team.....sounds like he has some upside left in a 3-4

Hartsock, former OSU, is off the market for those of you scoring at home. Ben Hartsock-TE- Falcons Mar. 2 - 2:56 pm et Falcons agreed to terms with TE Ben Hartsock, formerly of the Titans.
Hartsock, 27, caught 12 passes for 138 yards and no TDs as Bo Scaife's top backup in 2007. He'll block and play on all phases of special teams, but if the Falcons think they're getting a legit starter here, they'll be disappointed. Good signing for them. They needed a bigger back to pair with Dunn or Norwood.

While New Orleans is off his visit list, according to KFFL, Arizona is still on it.

Sources: Bengals send picks to Jets for Robertson The New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a trade that would send defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to the Bengals in exchange for Cincinnati's fourth- and fifth-round picks (Nos. 114 and 151) in the upcoming draft, according to league sources. Completion of the trade is contingent upon Robertson agreeing to a new contract -- he had two years remaining on his rookie deal with New York -- and passing a physical, though neither is expected to hold up the deal, which could be finalized as early as Monday. On Friday the Bengals had a deal in place to acquire Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers in exchange for third- and fifth-round picks, but that trade fell through when it did not meet league approval. The Lions then traded Rogers to the Bengals' in-state rivals, the Browns, for a third rounder and cornerback Leigh Bodden. In Robertson, 26, the Bengals, hoping to improve a defense that has ranked higher than 27th in yards allowed once in the past five seasons, will get a player who isn't as big or as dominant as Rogers has been in his first five season. But Robertson is just as hungry for a fresh start. Robertson, 6-foot-1 and 310 pounds, should be a better fit as a penetrating "3-technique" tackle in Cincinnati's 4-3 scheme than he had been in the Jets' 3-4 the past two years. In an interesting twist, the Bengals will have on their roster two of the first four picks in the 2003 draft. In fact, Cincinnati selected quarterback Carson Palmer first overall that year from among a group of four finalists that also included Robertson, whom Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis (along with many other personnel evaluators) is said to have loved coming out of the University of Kentucky. Robertson will be the fifth interior defensive lineman to be dealt for at least one draft pick since Friday, joining Corey Williams (Packers to Browns), Kris Jenkins (Panthers to Jets), Marcus Stroud (Jaguars to Bills) and Rogers. Some do not consider the 2008 draft to be deep at the defensive tackle position, thus several teams have decided to instead spend pick on a veteran.

No he's not he's undersized and gets pushed around, that was in the 3-4 which the Jets were terrible, mainly because he couldnt take on two O-lineman and was always getting pushed intothe secondary. So ya good move for Cincinnati
