Yawn all you want......but the local endorsement revenue available in NY dwarfs what is available in Cleveland.
James could make 10 mil a year more just pitching local products in NYC.
Every company in the tv market would love to have him holding a can or bowl of their local product.
You guys are totally ignoring the local dollars he passes while camped out in Cleveland.
Just a fact of life.

What makes you think LeBron wants to local TV ads? Do you really think he wants to don a King hat and walk around acting like an idiot for a local mom and pops company? Seriously man think about it. The guy gets millions of dollars from big name worldwide companies, why would you think he has any desire to make a measly 5-10 million doing a bunch of local crap commercials? There would literally be a bunch of them also, because there is no way 1, 2, heck even 20 local business could fork out 10 million a year on LeBron advertisements. Its almost like you want him to leave and are grasping at straws to make it true in your mind. What happens will happen, but your argument for why is weak at best. IMO of course.

Lebron has noone competing with him for the spotlight in Cleveland. In NY/NJ or LA, he's just another face in the crowd.
I also don't see Lebron reaching billionaire status, at least not until his playing days are far far behind him.

what about the 30m extra that cleveland can offer?
what about the fact that there's no guarantee they'll be a winning organization?
because, if he isn't winning, his status around the world (which dwarfs new york city) dwindles... nobody cares about a loser, and they forget about him the next week...
and again, i'll bring up this question...
if it is only about playing in a big market to lebron, then why in the hell did he sign an extension with the cavs?
2 years later, and i'm still waiting on an answer...
i'll be the first to admit, yes, it's possible that he could leave for new york, or elsewhere...
but to those that think he's already gone?

it's about winning folks, i've been saying that for years now... what happens in these next 2 and a half seasons is crucial...
if the cavs start going in the wrong direction (which has yet to happen since #23 was drafted) i couldn't blame him for leaving...
and i honestly think that's the only way he's leaving town...
whether he becomes a billioniare or not, doesn't depend on if he plays in new york city, i mean, he's already endorsing his stuff there, and he's already big in china, 9 out of 10 chinese kids know all about him, all while playing in cleveland...
what he does with his money is more important then what advertising he does in new york, that won't make him a billionaire...

That might be what is available on a local basis. He wouldn't be doing that pushing Wall Street firms, Maceys, Neiman Marcus, and any other number of local and global groups.

Nieman Marcus, Macy's and most larger Wall Street firms are all across the nation. Why does he have to be in NY to advertise for them?
If they wanted his face on their product, they would call him and say "LeBron, I'll give you a million to advertise my business." Why would it matter if he lives in NY or not?

They don't advertise on a national level other than magazines. They do on local television in the said markets.
I am getting older, so most people i talk to are "kids".....sorry if it was a bit cranky when I said it.
The point is Bron would reach another level in NY....there just isn't any way around that.

I have a question for you Peen... Kobe Bryant is a far more recognized figure than KG, and had he not had that spa/rape allegation, would be much more marketable.... so what is the difference between Kobe and KG? Is it that Kobe plays in LA or that Kobe has rings?

Well, KG is far more recongnized than Stephan Marbury.  Actually, he's probably more marketable than Vince Carter or Jason Kidd too (In the NJ/NY market) ... so when comparing big stars without rings ... must be the rings. Maybe Vince Carter should be the "example" for LeBron. He was a pretty big "star" in Toronto. Quite marketable, and one of the biggest names in the NBA. He then sulked to get himself traded to New Jersey, where he's never been as marketable since. Part of it is that he's never won much with NJ either ... part of it was that he was sort of a weasle for tanking it in Toronto when he wanted out.

Have you been reading the thread? I think there is a whole lot more to it, which means LeBron to NJ isn't a done deal. Peen seems to think that his marketing opportunities will automatically increase 10-fold if he were to move there ... and that wasn't the case when Vince Carter did it. If anything, his marketability has gone way down. Unless he's making a killing on local ads for the NJ turnpike that we just don't see out of state. Even KG's marketability hasn't really done anything since he moved to Boston. If anything, it's gone down a bit too. Before, he was an alpha-dog superstar with Minnesota ... now he's sort of considered just one of the "Boston Three-Party".

I would say LA over the rings. Detroit players got lots of rings and none of those guys ever made it big in the endorsement arena.

None of the players in Detroit are exciting, marketable players, either. I don't think that playing for the Lakers or the Knicks would make more kids want to be the next Rip Hamilton.

If the cavs dont' win a championship before his contract runs out, I'd be shocked if he didn't bolt. He's givin the hometown a chance, but he's not going to wait forever.

It's just widely speculated that there would be an increase if he would move to bigger market. Some odd "unnamed" source said that the first year he came into the league, and it's been quoted as gospel ever since. Every year, the amount of increase seems to go up too. It's like a bad urban legend or something.  Besides, if it was the "first shot he had to be a FA" he would of forgone any increase already ... since he signed his extension a year ago rather than become a free agent.

I'll agree if he doesn't feel like the Cavs are doing enough to support him, he'll bolt. But I highly doubt he goes to a crappy situation like the Knicks, just to get into New York.

guys that play in the backcourt, or on the wing, are more fun to watch..
tim duncan is arguably the greatest to play his position and he's not very marketable...
but guys in the backcourt are just more appealing to kids, and to the average and casual nba fan...
although, if you know your basketball, duncan is great to watch... he's an absolute technician...
shaq is probably the one exception, and that's because he was a freak of nature...

yeah he had a billboard for "the lebrons" in times square already. Also has had at least one in on the main drag of Harlem over by the Apollo theater.

I swear, some people are just adamant about the worst happening as a defense mechanism ... that way, if the worst happens, they can at least fallback on that and thump their chest while the rest of us grieve. Sort of like making a large bet on your own team to lose a Championship game. Meanwhile, if the worst doesn't come to fruition ... then everyone is too happy to call them on it ... sort of like how nobody calls Peen on how he was dead-balls WRONG about LeBron not signing the extention the first time around.

Exactly, why speculate on the future, he is a Cleveland Cavalier.
and for now, Ill enjoy watching the best player in the NBA night in and night out do tremendous things on the basketball court, things you will tell your grandchildren about, its a joy to watch this kid play for us.
