I wonder if Savage still goes after Justin Smith? Or Randy Starks?
If we happen to sign Calvin Pace, this will be a great start to tomorrow.
1) Randy Starks would be a nice move!!!
2) Why is Green Bay willing to trade their best DT?
Didn't they draft a DT from Tennessee in the 1st round last year...

That was funny, I remember when it shut down for awhile because it was too busy. Man, this would be something if we got Williams and Smith in the same night, now that's a start to the D Line!

That thought definitely crossed my mind.....that GB was trying to pull a 1st rounder out of another team.

I will say that it kinda makes sense ......
We released Roye just a couple of days ago .......
Who knows? I'd take the guy for a 2nd in a hertbeat.

Ha, wikipedia already says "Corey Williams is a defensive tackle for the cleveland browns in the national football league." I'd say they're jumping the gun a little bit.

Quite possibly a rumor or just a smokescreen, other teams have been linked to trading for Williams already as well.
Having said that. Williams is a beast and would be a HUGE addition to our D line. I have been wanting him to hit FA since week 6, but never thought we would swing it when he got franchised. If this is all true, a 2nd rounder for him would be a bargain. Of course we still have to get him to agree to a deal before any trade would take place.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

that's funny... I just went there now and this is what it said...
College career Williams played as a defensive lineman for Arkansas State from 2000-2003.
His career in the NFL is now over because he plays for an awful team whose bitter fans can't accept the fact we own them.

Found this on SPorting News....sounds much steeper than first reported Two first rounders??? Source: Packers to trade ‘franchise’ DT Williams By Dennis Dillon - SportingNews 16 minutes ago Send Share Print Text Size: Default: A Large: A Larger: A The Green Bay Packers slapped the “franchise tag” on free-agent defensive tackle Corey Williams, so that means he’ll be playing at Lambeau Field in 2008, right? Not necessarily, Cheesehead. If another team wants to sign Williams, it would have to give up two first-round draft picks to Green Bay as compensation. That’d be a steep price to pay for any player, especially for a defensive tackle who has started only 20 games in four seasons. A more likely scenario is that the team could work out a trade with the Packers. Don’t be surprised if a Williams trade is among the early moves when the NFL’s free-agency period opens at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday. A league source I talked to practically guaranteed it. “Someone is going to trade for him,” said the source. “It’s going to happen. He’s not going to play for Green Bay. I’m telling you he’s gone. The first day—he’s gone.” In fact, the Washington Post reported on its website Thursday night that Williams would be dealt to Cleveland. There’s not a lot of quality defensive tackles available in this year’s free-agent class, so that’s why a team would be interested in Williams, a 6-4, 313-pound lineman who can play both the 3-technique position and nose tackle. He is better than average against the run and had seven sacks in each of the last two seasons. The Packers rotate defensive tackles and appear to have a lot of depth. Ryan Pickett is a starter, end Cullen Jenkins moves inside on passing downs and Johnny Jolly and Daniel Muir also are in the picture. Then there is Justin Harrell, their first-round draft pick in ‘07. Harrell didn’t exactly light up the league as a rookie but eventually could develop into a top tackle. If Packers GM Ted Thompson believes there is enough talent at tackle among those guys, Williams certainly would be expendable. For now, he wears the Green Bay franchise tag. By Friday afternoon, he could belong to another team. Senior writer Dennis Dillon covers the NFL for Sporting News. E-mail him at ddillon@sportingnews.com.

Ok, here's what wikipedia says now... "Corey Williams (born August 17, 1980 in Camden, Arkansas) is an American football defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He was originally drafted by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He played college football at Arkansas State." wierd... EDIT: someone was just messing around...it's back to normal now "Corey Williams (born August 17, 1980 in Camden, Arkansas) is an American football defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League. I think two 1st rounders was if someone signed Williams after he was franchised. Once he signs his franchise tender the Packers can trade him for whatever they want. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I agree that this trade isn't made unless PS has a long term contract already in place.
To me this is no indication of what to expect in regards to DA. Either the deal makes sense or it doesn't. Expecting or not expecting draft picks for DA should have no affect on it.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

No team is going to give up 2 first rounders for him. That's misleading.
So I only do this once a year, but I called the one contact I have left. He's saying that the Browns are front-runners for Williams, but that there are several other teams in the running for his services.
His agent and the Browns are close enough on the parameters of a contract to go ahead and swing the deal, but it isn't finished.

In years past I had several. Now I'm down to one old-timer who bases himself out of the midwest. He's always been in the know though.
The last time I hit him up for info, he told me that Savage really wanted Anderson to take the job from Frye. I was hammered for it (I wouldn't have believed it either ).

This would be an awesome trade. Williams is much better than anybody available in free agency and we'll have to pay a lot less for him, since he can only negotiate with us.
The only thing we have to give up in return is a low 2nd round pick.
Savage is the best thing that has happened to this team since the return.
I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that Williams ends up as a DE on this team, not a NT. He's tall and a good penetrator, that's not what you want at 3-4 NT. This is our Richard Seymour.

This is great news!!!! Way to go Phil I just posted today except I think it was in another Browns forum that we should make a run at trading for either Williams or Stroud. GREAT MOVE Phil! Robaire-Shaun S-Williams! Our D-Line is already starting to look a lot better.

No need to get snippy now I'm just emphasizing the point that I like the move! By the way is there another off season in sports as exciting as the NFL's? I think not!
