I think he would just be a face for camp... it's obvious that he hasn't done anything for the Giants, why would he do anything for us? He hasn't shown not ONE good thing from what I know. So whats the point?
Get Okam, or the guy from Iowa St. in the draft.

Geez, William Joseph was a first round bust with NYG known as being lazy as hell. I can't really imagine us getting a 2nd d-line in this offseason with a penchant for being lazy.

This IS from a blog from the Boston Herald so it may get deleted... More Troy A couple of more tidbits on Troy Brown, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Lions and Browns have already called, with Cleveland considered a better fit because of Romeo Crennel, the fact that the Browns are an up-and-coming team, and an opportunity to catch some passes behind Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow and Donte’ Stallworth. Brown has also made it clear that he won’t play for a team that faces the Patriots next year, which rules out the Jets and Dolphins, who have expressed cursory interest. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/patriots/index.php/2008/03/13/more-troy/

Brown could be an upgarde over Carter and/or Wilson. Both who took up roster spots and didnt do squat.
Playing as a dime back couldnt hurt either.

The guy is 36 or 37 years old. We have Edwards, Winslow, JJ, and Stallworth... I'd rather take a flyer on a young guy with some potential upside than an old guy that's never going to see the field.

KFFL Raiders | W. Joseph signs Friday Fri, 14 Mar 2008 19:47:05 -0700 The Associated Press reports the Oakland Raiders signed free-agent DT William Joseph (Giants) Friday, March 14. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Possible depth for the DLine signed away...at first I thought that knowing the Raiders, he was vastly over-paid. After reading further, I think he is worth the less than $700, 000 his agent says he is being paid. I noticed on a website that tracks free agent visits the name Frank Walker linked to the Browns...does anyone have any knowledge or opinion of his talent and ability to help us?

I know it's been mentioned that Haggans is coming in but now we have some dates... Haggans to visit By Marla Ridenour Pittsburgh free agent linebacker Clark Haggans is scheduled to visit Cleveland Tuesday and Wednesday, his agent Jeff Sperbeck confirmed Monday. Haggans, 31, an eight-year veteran, could give the Browns a pass-rush threat opposite Kamerion Wimbley. Haggans has totalled 32.5 sacks the past six seasons, with 58 tackles and four sacks in 2007. He became a regular for the Steelers in 2004, with 57 total starts in that span. He's also recorded 315 career tackles (210 solos) and 18 passes defensed. Wimbley, Cleveland's first-round pick in 2006, set the team's rookie record with 11 sacks, but followed that up with just five in 2007. Outside linebacker Antwan Peek, signed as a free agent from Houston to take some of the pressure off Wimbley, was hampered by injuries most of last season. A fifth-round pick of Pittsburgh in 2000, Haggans was a walk-on at Colorado State who left as its all-time sacks leader (33). http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/browns/2008/03/17/haggans-to-visit/

This is the guy right here. I think people on this board really undervalue this guy. He is exactly what the Browns. He is an excellent outside rusher and he delivers punishing blows.
Haggans would be a huge piece to our puzzle and he is number one on my list. I think you guys will be changing your tune on him early next year......if he indeed signs w/the Browns.

Haggans is the guy I want also. I just don't/didn't want a OJT guy like Laboy who imo wouldn't have been much of an upgrade over what we have this year. Get someone who is an experienced vet like Haggans, and then draft a guy next year to be his replacement. This makes us a much better team this year, and avoids the temptation to leave a mediocre player like Laboy at the OLB spot longer than he should be based on the $$$ we gave him in FA.
Against logic, the most effective armor is willful ignorance.

What I don't understand is why teams don't sign him. If he was a decent OLB there would be more interest instead of him continuing to be in FA now. Something has to be flawed in his game. I don't really know much about him but could he be weak against the run or undisciplined? Is he an every down player or just depth/situational
The last thing we need is another pure pass rusher only. we all ready have Peek. I want an OLB who can start and contain the outside run while providing pressure on the QB. I would think if Haggans could do both of those things he'd be on a team by now

I think one concern - and I don't know how much merit there is to this - is that Pittsburgh linebackers (Vrabel aside) are like Colts O Linemen. They have a history of playing good for the Steelers and then not reaching that same potential with other teams.

That has been said...You're correct...
Virtually ALL the LB's that leave Pitt as u so reference actually go from 3-4 to 4-3 D's...

Which is learning a whole new position. Going from a 3-4 to a 3-4 (like Vrabel) won't be a problem. I would love to see him here, don't see any reason he couldn't productive.

Has anyone heard anything about Al Wilson. I had read we were going to resume talks with him this week. Add in Haggans and we've upgraded even if only for a yr or 2.

I would be on board...Haggans isn't a great pass rusher, but he's a pretty complete 3-4 OLB.

There has to be a logical explaination why Phil is talking/has talked with Haggans, Edwards and Wilson. Thompson is gone and it's probable that Stewart will not be re-signed. That leaves one or two positions that need filled. At the moment McMillan is Wimbley's primary back-up, right? Do you feel McMillan can get the job done if Wimbley goes down? Other than Leon who are the back-ups at ILB, anyone worth relying on? Maybe Phil wants back-ups he feels confidence in. So the question is, what would this trio of free agents role be with the Browns? Back-ups or starters? If you can answer these questions it might help determine if a free agent is worth offering a contract or just keeping who we already have! IMO Haggans would be a back-up and the other two possible starters. Your guess is as good as mine. My guess is that Haggans will be a Brown, Edwards will not and with Wilson it's a 50-50 chance.

Out of curiosity, why would you be against the signing? Something about Haggans you don't like? Prefer someone else?

I say Haggans becomes the SOLB starter, and platoons with McGinest
McMillan is techically the backup to Wimbley, but he never sees any action on defense. Then you would see Peek in on obvious pass downs, and as a backup to both OLB spots in the base D.
Wilson to me would just rotate in with Leon, Andra, and Qwell. Remember in NE when Romeo was there they rotated in Bruschi, Ted Johnson, Roman Phifer, etc. The three of them played a good amount of snaps.

Most of the stiller fans I know (I'm totally surrounded by them) are not really upset about his leaving. The say his pass rush skills are no where near where they used to be. I really don't have a solid opinion on Haggans being a Brown. We need some help there, just not sure he's the answer.
