I remember listening to the colin thrash the browns

I like Colin. He always takes the dissenting point of view to spark discussion. He Knows how Passionate We Browns' Fans are, so he trashes our team to get the expected response in his calls and emails. The surprise for me is the response that we are getting from Mort and the rest of the press! They are the ones that usually put our Brownies Down!! JMHO Go Brownies!!!

I don't care what any of the media is saying about us... doesn't mean a thing!

I LOVED when RAC said in his presser the other day that basically we look better on paper, but paper doesn't mean a thing.

Who cares what the media is sayin, I'd rather sneak up on people like last year rather than the national media building us up. They'll be the first ones to jump ship.

Interesting audio. Thanks for posting.

There is a lot of crap being thrown around on this thread.

First of all.........let me say this. I consistently chided Brown's fans when they bad-mouthed the media when we were bad. I agreed w/the media-------we were bad.

I've ripped the Browns for a long time. And while people didn't like it.........the Browns deserved to get ripped. They were a dysfunctional franchise.

But, right now.........I'm praising the Browns. And it isn't out of blind love. It's because the team is better. They were 10 and 6 last year. They have upgraded the roster since then. They deserve praise.

I respect the hell out of Mort. He knows people and he does talk to people. He wasn't blowing smoke up our rears. He researched and found that the Browns are gaining league-wide respect.

I think some of you don't want to acknowledge what he said because he praised DA. Perhaps it is time for you guys to give it a freaking rest. Was Norv Turner trying to make us feel good? Phil Simms?

What Mort said was pretty much identical to what I've been trying to tell you guys since I came back to the board. Deny that! It's pretty damn obvious to see for anyone who doesn't have a slanted view. I freely admit that I thought DA sucked. I didn't think he was better than Frye. I was wrong. I hadn't seen much of him and he proved me wrong this year. It's not so bad to just say........."damn, I was wrong."

Mort was also dead-on when he said the only gamble we took was w/Rogers. It is a gamble. However, it is one that probably was worth taking. Our d-line sucked last year. Our defense sucked last year. They were the reason we didn't make the playoffs. Not DA. It was the defense.

Savage worked his ass off to upgrade the D. I still think we need another OLB who can apply pressure and an experienced corner. However, Savage has done a damn fine job. He did the same thing w/the OL last year and the OL was the biggest reason for our success. Yeah, Rogers is a gamble, but is one that I can live with. I don't think it is as big of a gamble as the BQ trade, but we dodged a bullet there because we "found" DA. BQ might turn into the second coming and the trade will look brilliant, but even if he is a disappointment, we got a legit QB in DA.

Mort was dead-on in his analysis and it was evident to me that he had been talking to NFL people. I am buying into this media hype, just as I bought into it when they said we sucked.

We did suck!

And now...........we are pretty damn good!

Put that in your pompous pipes and smoke it!

*L*..............Damn, that felt good to say.

Vers, I get more out of one of your posts than I get out of ... well ... you get my drift.

You're right. We did suck. As much as we didn't like hearing it from everyone, we did suck. No one can look back honestly and say we didn't. And now that the praise is coming, it's as deserved as the disrespect was then.

10-6 with the 30th ranked D. Pretty obvious what held us back. Savage has done what he could to fix it. I'm impressed, and looking forward to the season.

I agree with you Vers... and I'm really excited about this season... but we have a much tougher schedule this year and have a lot of questions still... I'm not going to jump on the SB bandwagon yet.... but anything less than playoffs will be a failure.

I think everyone is excited about the coming season. Why wouldn't we be excited. But it's always wise to temper that excitement with caution. Especially in March. I remember being excited about Bentley. Until the second play of training camp.

I also wanted to mention that I don't think people were heaping disrespect our way when the team sucked. My definition of disrespect doesn't include the word "truth". And that's what people were telling about us back then. The truth.

I also have a slight problem with blaming the Defense for keeping us out of the playoffs. They did their fair share in that area. But so did the Offense on more than one occasion. It's a team game. The blame gets shared along with the praise.

Thanks for the link, I caught the tail end of their discussion and was laughing out loud when Mort told Cowherd that the reason Favre was retiring was because he didn't want to go to a Super Bowl and lose, and he knows he would lose to the Browns!

Thanks Cap. At least I think it was a compliment. LOL

We are better and to combine a couple of the other posts w/yours, let me say that yes, the schedule does appear tougher. Of course, last year at this time people were saying we had a brutal schedule in 2007. You just never know. And while I don't know if we will have a better record this upcoming season, I do think the team is improved. That's all I can ask for at this point. It's a process and we appeared to be headed in the right direction.

I don't know if I think we are a legit Super Bowl contender, but I am not setting my expectations that high. I do think we are a legit playoff contender that is capable of winning a game or two in the playoffs. After that.......who knows? But, we are still missing a few pieces, but it should be a fun and exciting year where we can be proud of the team we love. Hell, I was proud of them this past year.

I also feel good that I am really starting to believe in Savage. After a rocky start, he has really done a good job. Yes, he still makes some mistakes, but he is making more good moves than bad, and the team is becoming one to be reckoned with.

That's exactly what I've been saying. The schedule before the season really doesn't mean all that much. It looks tough, but like you said, you never know. Teams scheduled us as a win last season.

After last season...I don't think I will take a schedule very seriously again..... LOL

Last Season around this time....Our schedule DID LOOK BRUTAL.

I was worried that we would improve and it wouldn't show in the win column. Then everyone would be warming up their pitchforks and torches to go and oust Romeo....And after game one.....that scenario was looking like it would go in high gear.....

Who could have predicted what happened last season????Any predictions that came close to what happened last year would have had no foundation.

Quite frankly I don't care what the media says. All I know is what I think about the moves. Although I did like hearing the good reviews of DA. I really think DA is going to have an even bigger year this year. All his faults seen to be correctable. His decision making was slowly improving and I think he'll work on his touch on his short balls. Bottom line on him a 6'6 Q.B. with a rocket arm and a cool head is going to scare teams and he will be mediocre at worst but I think next year he might establish himself as great. If not I have faith in Brady as well.

Shaun Rogers will be motivated next year. I think he'll enjoy playing for a contender (calling the Browns a contender sure feels good) and he'll be motivated to prove he can still be the most dominating d lineman in the league. Corey Williams will thrive off playing next to a Rogers and put up even bigger numbers, same can be said for Robaire and Smith. And I gurantee you there is one person absolutely loving these moves- Wimbley is going to really break out next year. He'll be one on one everytime and there aren't many tackles that are going to stop him without help.

I really believe our corners will be fine. Romeo will finally get to put his input in and he's a genius when it comes to defensive backfield schemes. Plus I really think Eric Wright can be great in the league and McDonald will be solid.
