I did some research on Al and came up with after the injury his MRI and x-rays all came back negetive. After his injury he played the next 3 games but missed the last game with thumb and back injuries.
It's the 3 games after the injury that caught my eye. Then he misses the whole next yr. How much damage could he have done in those 3 games he played instead of sitting out a couple.
If he's cleared to play and sign's and insentive contract we'll see.

I agree 99% here...except for Willie. I know the guy isn't what he used to be, but he's a huge force for the younger guys. He's cheap to keep, and can be effective if he's spelled. The problem is his backup, Peek, gets hurt more than he does.

On Al Wilson, if he's cleared to play the only thing remaining is his head clear. I have no worries at all about the injury itself, just what is going on inside his head.
The first bit of good contact will tell alot. If he starts to shy away from contact out of fear of a severe neck injury, then he isn't going to be of any use to us. If he is just as fearless as ever about sticking his hat into someone, then he's going to pick up right where he left off.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

If Wilson could come back and play at 80% of what he used to, he's an upgrade over Andra (and we know I support Andra). He's one of the better interior run stuffers in the game, and has great reactions.
I just wonder about that neck though...at least the other guys the Browns gambled on were healthy.

Far to many folks take the "AGE" thing way to far...30-32 year olds are spread all over the league and many on 1 year terms...There's nothing wrong with signing SOLID Players to 1 year deals...It's what is out there that will UPGRADE that particular spot whether it be "Starter or Depth"...
Wilson would in fact be a risk pick-up...Particularly if we let Davis walk upon signing him...But make no mistake about it...Wilson at 90% is a HUGE ASS upgrade to the middle of this defense...I gotta think that with Wilson being cleared to resume his NFL career...And passing physicals...With his football demeanor he will give 100% on the field regardless of the risk that goes along with it...He won't be hesitant on the field...If he felt he would be he'd RETIRE...
THAT'S a football playa'...And one we could use...
Most likely Wilson will audition on a 1 year HEAVILY INCENTIVE LADEN Contract for ANY team...These are deals that don't hurt your cap...He'll get Vet MINIMUM for salary and alot of incentives that if not met they don't hit the cap...
It wouldn't surprise me if Wilson was a BROWN by midweek...
I don't care what Davis has done here...He lacks INSTINCT and RECOGNITION...No 1 TON of Defensive Linemen in front of him are gonna change that...If we wanna keep FOUR ILB's...Fine...Just get Davis OFF THE FIELD in running situations...We need to get tougher up the gut...
We've started with the additions of Rogers and Williams...Now get a LB that has the capability to make plays AT or BEHIND the LOS...Spikes and Wilson are the 2 that can produce it...
Go Browns!!!

I would love to bring Wilson in here. He is a true stud! It would have to be an incentive laden deal. I don't see the big risk in that and I do see the potential rewards.
Wilson would be the best LBer on our roster if he is healthy.

I agree, Al Wilson would be a nice player to get Dra off the field. I still feel our biggest hole is OLB, Willie and Antwan Peek COMBINED had 30 solo tackles last season. That is beyond horrible, bad..whatever you want to call it, it was unacceptable. At the other side Wimbley had 39 solo himself and he's terrible against the run.It just shows both Peek and Willie don't have the ability to make any kind of impact anymore.
If you compare our OLB tackle production to the Steelers heres how it goes:
Willie and Peek combined: 30 solo tackles / 7 sacks
Clark Haggans and Lamarr Woodley: 50 solo tackles / 8 sacks
James Harrison: 76 solo tackles / 8.5 sacks
Kam Wimbley: 39 solo tackles / 5 sacks
If thats all the production your getting from your OLB in a 3-4 you'll never be sucessful at all. We might as well call it a 3-3.

Sorry. I deleted the info from this post. I posted a story from the OBR before I realized it was premium content.
