Never said it was, but I sure as hell wouldnt elect someone president who hates America. So it gets back to the question that started this whole deal. Does Obama have the same feelings as his pastor, and to a lesser extent his wife, and even if he doesnt will it hurt him to be asociated closely with people who do??

He doesn't hate America, and far as I can tell, his wife doesn't hate America...she's not proud of some of the things that this country has done...that doesn't mean she hates America...but in your minds (generally speaking) anyone who doesn't pledge their undying support, is anti-American.

Going back to the original question, he has closely associated with someone who has made racist, anti American statments. He has in the past referred to the fake Rev Wright as a close personal spiritual advisor. IS this going to hurt his chances of nominated or elected?

Why? Because in America when you can't find dirt directly related to someone, you look at those around them. I never said I agree with it, but it is what always happens in American politics.

I don't really see the point in arguing whether or not Obama loves this country or not.. I guess it would matter if I thought he hated it... but loving your country does not equal great leadership... heck I'm absolutely certain that Hitler loved Germany...

Not arguing, discussing. Dialogue is good for race relations.
I do think this is going to hurt his campaign, not saying that is right but there are going to be people who dont have the critical thinking skillls to see past the BS. Will it hurt him enough to kill his campaign? I dont have the answer for that. Also anytime a question arises about a canidate I am going to take a look at the issue and question whether it is a valid issue or rhetoric.

I think it's important...damned important...but just as important, is the fact that you have to have willing listeners...and some people aren't ready to hear what others have to say.
If we can't respect our differences, we'll never respect each other.
and some just don't want to understand those differences. They want everything blended into one "American" culture... but what is that, if America is a melting pot.

I agree with everything you just said. I find it funny that the people on the same page tend to be the ones who argue the most. People who dont want to listen and learn about others culture and learn about our differences and similarities are the ignorant ones that will never change. Those people exist on both sides and from his statements I think Mr Wright is one of those. I refuse to call him a Rev anymore because a true teacher of the words of Jesus would not spout the hateful crap he did.

I can't comment on his words in particular because I haven't listened to them. I'm sure I've heard something similar before, but I'll have to listen and see if there's anything that I agree, or don't agree with.
But I do agree with the mission of his church. Although I am not a christian, I do believe in the education and empowerment of blacks and Africans in diaspora.
It's not at the expense of white people, as some seem to think (including Rev Wright apparantly).
