Indeed that was what happened. The ball was under AJ and Victor made the quick decision to advance, Victor caught a spike and then tried to slide, which pulled his hammy.
I don't expect Victor out too long, maybe 5 days or 4 games.
you had a good run Hank.

I know it's early but the "most potent offense on the planet" (Kitties) got blanked by the Royals today 4-0 and start the season 0-2. Granted, the Tribe could start off slow, but I was expecting serious firepower from Detroit against KC's pitching.

From what I saw, I don't think that Wedge sent him either. I think he ran because the catcher lost the ball.
I think that was pretty lame to bash Wedge for that one.
It is likewise lame to bash people who are just asking questions,....I did not see the game and was wondering why Vic was runnning, much as I am allowed to wonder why Kenny wasn't,....
Nobody wants Wedge to succeed more than I do.

Reread what you posted:

This question may be rhetorical, just like my old assertions about NOT sending Lofton last year in Game Seven,...so they DIDN'T send Kenny last year, and now, they RUN VM ??
WHY, .... was Martinez running,...?????????????? I can't think of a good enough reason, with a 7-2 lead, early in the game -- this early in the season -- to have either Victor Martinez stealing a base,...(update me with the out-count here folks,...), or have a hit-and-run "on."
It's pretty clear that even though you didn't see the game, you are bashing the coaching staff, namely Wedge.
Maybe next time you'll get all the fact before you bash the coaching staff for no reason.
you had a good run Hank.

It's pretty clear you don't like what I say, so that's fine. I respect your opinion and appreciate your input.
Just wanted to know why Vic was running; so I'm a moron. So what.

Look, i'm not calling you a moron. For the most part, I agree with what you say whether related to sports or otherwise.
However, the way you made it sound like it was all Wedge's fault was wrong. Maybe emotions or something, and you just assumed that Wedge sent Victor. That's fine, accuse away, i'm just here to try and correct you.
We're all allowed to be wrong...just don't let it happen again!
you had a good run Hank.

I get enough "correction" from,...nevermind That doesn't mean Wedge is off the hook; I ain't the only guy around here that thinks his "manager" skills can be made suspect. That's not bashing. Just still waiting for Kenny to round third,...(moron Skinner.)

It's funny how the best trade a team makes is the one they DIDNT make.... While watching the game wednesday night, I was again impressed with Shoppach, I wouldn't trade him straight up for Bay, no chance, no way, kelley is a heck of a catcher, best back-up in the game, could start for 90% of the other teams in the leauge. I for one am really glad we didnt pull the trigger on that trade.

The Royals have some good, young talent. Buddy Bell was starting to turn that thing around. I doubt they finish in the cellar this year. I could, possibly, see them finishing above Chicago AND Minnesota.

I'm just glad that our closers are all on the same page.
I think there's a provision in their contracts that say "You have to at least put a man on base, and it would be preferable if you give up at least one run."
What happened to the days of the closer who came in and threw probably 9 or 10 pitches total? Blew the ball by them at upper-90s speed, sat them down quick?
*Edit* Why is Betancourt not our closer, now that I think about it? You have Perez go the 7th and 8th, bring in Betancourt in the 9th. I mean, seriously, those two guys are downright studs. Yeah, they have their little hiccups every once in a while, but their combined ERA was pretty much what Borowski's was last year, I believe. That's ridiculous.

I don't know, but I find it ironic that we replace Bob Wickman with essentially his clone.

I call Borowski the Quincy Morgan of the Indians. Every time he gets the ball, it's an adventure.

Because closers are the single most overrated position in baseball. The Indians used the "relief ace" strategy about 90% of the time last year, where Betancourt came in for the 7th or 8th inning to face the best hitters, or in the toughest situations. He was our best relief pitcher and was used as such, rather that having him come in with nobody on and facing the 6,7,8 hitters, just because its the 9th inning. The Tribe hasn't fully embraced the "relief ace" strategy yet, but its coming. The sooner baseball gets rid of the save stat, or at least changes it to where it means something, the better off teams will be.

And to think that we were going to trade Shoppach AND Franklin...wow that would have been dumb. I think we were all on board for doing anything in LF as long as Dellucci didn't start/play. Thank God Shapiro is smarter than all of us fans eh?

Oh come on ... that's a horrible comparison.
Quincy Morgan could never "get" the ball in the first place.

Yeah, that's true. If he truly were the Quincy Morgan of the Indians, he'd either drop every ball thrown at him from the catcher, or catch it and then drop it after a couple steps.

This is why the sox will finish last in the division. Two gimme plays for Jermaine Dye that he butchered.

He did this time, Excl.
Westbrook seems like he pitched well, just made 2 mistakes (2 solo shots).
Hopefully Jensen Lewis can get us out of this (guys on 1st and 2nd, 1 out, bottom of the 8th) and we can get the run back and then some.

I was always told, a team needs to win the current series, 2 out of 3, 3 out of 4, ect, If we can do this more than we dont than by September we will be in real good shape.

That was my mantra/battle cry for the Tribe last year..."just keep winning series". The rest will take care of itself.
