Now that the schedule is official it can be posted in this forum.

Browns open with Cowboys, Steelers
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
04.15.2008
For openers, how ‘bout them Cowboys? And how ‘bout who follows?

The Browns open the 2008 regular season at home against the Cowboys on Sunday Sept. 7, then host the Steelers in Week Two in a Sunday night national TV game, the first of five nationally televised prime-time games the Browns will play.

The Browns return to Monday Night Football when they host the Super Bowl champion Giants on Oct. 13. They also play two Monday night road games, Nov. 17 at Buffalo and Dec. 15 at Philadelphia.

The Browns host the Broncos in Week 10 on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 8:15 p.m.

The five national prime-time games are the most ever for the Browns, who haven't played on national television since 2006 and haven't played on Monday night since 2003.

Week Two brings the Browns' first chance first chance to end their nine-game losing streak to the Steelers. The Browns and Steelers wait until December 28 in the regular-season finale to play again.

Due to flex scheduling in Weeks 11-17, another game - possibly the finale with the Steelers or the Nov. 30 visit from the Colts - could be moved as well.

The Browns again play all three division rivals in the first month of the season, following the first Steelers game with back-to-back road trips to Baltimore (Sept. 21) and Cincinnati (Sept. 28) before their bye week.

They play Baltimore at home on Nov. 2 and Cincinnati at home on Dec. 21.

Though times are subject to change for all Sunday games except Week Two against the Steelers, the Browns are scheduled to play at 4:15 p.m. when they host the Cowboys and visit Baltimore and Washington (Oct. 19). The game at Jacksonville on Oct. 26 is set for 4:05 p.m.

The Week Five bye is the Browns' earliest since returning to the league in 1999. The three Monday night games are the most since 1988, and the Browns will open at home for the 10th straight season, though they've won just one of those games, in 2004 over the Ravens.

The Browns play back-to-back home games three times and back-to-back road games three times as well. The homestands come in the season's first two weeks, with Baltimore and Denver on a short week in early November and again to close November with Houston and the Colts.

The back-to-back road trips start with the division rivals in September. The Browns are at Washington and Jacksonville in consecutive weeks in October and at Tennessee and Philadelphia for their first two games in December.

Seven of the Browns' opponents were playoff teams a year ago. The only opponents the Browns also played last season are the three AFC North Division teams, Houston and Buffalo.

Closing against Pittsburgh is HUGE!

I'm all for NEVER closing against an NFC team, and I love the thought of closing against a division rival.

If we have to play Pittsburgh in prime time, I would rather do it in Cleveland. I don't know what the Steelers record is at home in prime time, but I believe it is very good.

Err, let me try this again as it appears my last post was too much fluff or too entertaining for Pure Football.....

...5 Prime Time games are incredible

...10-6 possible...play offs? (now there is a real Pure Football thread....right?)

....at first glance it appears our toughest non-conference are at home

....I'll need some Monday Nights off (not really Pure Football, but that sentiment is apparently OK to share)

GO BROWNIES

Btw my fellow dawg and deleter of out ot topic post, here is my thought to next season....

NRTU.

As if we needed any more confirmation that everyone believes we're a true contender, take a look at when our bye week is. Traditionally, teams that are playoff contenders are given their bye weeks early in the year.

If you haven't moved by that point, you may want to target a few of those nights to spend in a hotel rather than drive the next morning.

This is true, and I agree. But there are other ways to look at it. I'm sure their record at home w/ an insane crowd w/ the division on the line is pretty good too. But hopefully we'll already have the division won going into it.

If we get 10-6 on this schedule, I'd be ecstatic.... This schedule is ridiculously tough. The Browns are going to have to be firing on all cylinders for every game to equal our 2007 record.

I want to just remind everyone real quick that a super bowl winning team could potentially start 0-2 with this schedule... so in the case that we do (which I don't think we will), make sure to stay your pitchforks and torches until week 3.

Pittsburgh has the toughest schedule this year from last seasons records. The winning percentage of their opponents is something like 585%.

Don't forget that, as mentioned in the article, weeks 11-17 have flex scheduling. Depending on how things go, we could see late-season games against Indy and Pittsburgh flexed to Sunday night.

Go Browns!

Based on last years records the Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL.

Also, the Patriots have the easiest.

It isn't the NFL Net...

You can still see the game if you really want to

Well, I guess if we come away with a winning record this year, that will be a real accomplishment..

Pumped for this year's schedule with the prime time games. I have a friend moving to DC so it will give me an excuse to go there for the game at washington.

I think it's utterly pointless right now to predict what our record will be and what we'll need to get into the playoffs. We may go 10-6 and miss the playoffs, we may go 8-8 and get in. We may go 16-0, we may go 0-16. The only way we'll know for sure is when we play.

That being said, my expectations are high. I expect 16-0 until proven otherwise.

Let's go Browns!!

I don't like all the MNF games. Sundays in the fall without the Browns suck IMO...it does open a few more dates to use some of my Gator seats.

Also, with MNF, we'll have a few short weeks. But, it's kind of like getting a 2nd bye later in the season when we have a game Thursday Nov. 6 and then nothing until the following Monday, Nov. 17. But, we only have 4 days rest between our Sunday game against the Texans and the Nov. 6 game against the Broncos.

Needless to say, not only are our opponents tougher, our schedule is tough.
