Good move.

One of the reasons I don't spend more time here was due to the slow loading caused by the google ads. I realize I have to expect this on dial-up, but this site was the ONLY site on the net that I frequent that loaded this maddeningly slow.

I can tell the difference, even though the google ads still cause a drag, it is not near as bad as it was before.

Depending on how old you are (as far as the site knows), those have been there all along <img src="/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

I am having (I think) an issue with peoples sigs, and images posted.

I can't see most people sig in this thread, sans Michelle's, she is the only sig I see. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I can see mine as well

Aside from you & Michelle, the only other sig pic in this thread is Saviour (and now me).

Try dumping your browser's cache (clear/delete temporary files) and then restart the browser.

'Generated in 0.006 seconds in which 0.001 seconds were spent on a total of 8 queries. Zlib compression enabled."

I noticed that on the bottom of the main index jw what does that mean?

those are some simple statistics on the page you viewed, used for gauging performance.

It took the server 6/1000ths of a second to create the page, 1/1000th of which it spent performing 8 different queries to the database to get the information to be displayed.

Yes, it will be reverting back to being dawgtalkers.net once I do a little more work on things... but that's a few days off at best right now.

Server Move is Complete...

Thanks Purple, I know you said in PM that it would. But, I saw this statement by ref in thread and wondered if things have changed.

The only reason I'm interested is because I use the password manager "Roboform" and I have it configured as a macro to enter my username and pw with the .net address. Thanks.

that is, unfortunately, just a side-effect of this version of these boards.
I had half-hoped that moving servers would clear it up as I have read that there is really no known rhyme or reason as to why the problem manifests itself on some servers and/or for some people and not others.

I do have a theory though that the primary trigger is switching accounts...i.e. logging out as someone else, then loggin in as you. It seems to confuse the tracking data that is stored on the server. One things I've found to correct it in most cases is to just log out again and log right back in as yourself. It seems to "refocus" that server-side temp data.

The only long-term solution is to move on up to the next version of this software, which in all likelihood would mean at least a little bit of change in how things look here. I've played with it a bit and I'm not sure I can fully capture the look we need. The newer version is pretty cool though. It's faster than this one, way mnore secure and tracking works right. Private Messages are actually Private Topics like they are as Browns Chat and bunches of other things. Picture combining any reasons you might have liked Browns Chat with all the reasons you came here like post tracking and stuff..... that is pretty much the newest version. There is a new release of it coming out soon that fixes some initial bugs that were in that version (it is a complete re-write of the forum software, not just an updated version) and after I fully finish the server move (switching us back to using .net) I plan to get a test server up and going again to try to hammer through any problems I might have with it.

Was there actually anything to like? I seriously can't think of anything. Anyone? Anyone?

the only thing I can think of off the top of my head was the way PM's work over there.... the way they are actually more like 'private topics' where you can have more than one person in them.

[color:"orange"]Whats a "server"? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have experienced a new oddity. Started early a.m. 1/11/07 stopped after about an hour...thought gone.

Then today after couple of minutes posting...I couldn't his the ( ' ) it would send me to a search engine bar of some sort on the bottom of my screen with the cursor on a spot to type something to search for. Also ( / ) wasn't working as well as arrows to move my cursor. And when I swiped and right clicked my mouse there wasn't an option to copy or paste...just save, save as, etc.

After an hour left the board to Browns chat and no problems there. Came back here after a couple of hours. Everything works fine??? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Don't know if its a glitch with the new system??? Well you asked for feedback so thought I'd mention...and sure as heck would like it fixed if possible.

My guess is that all of that is directly related to something you have changed on your system of late, perhaps some new software you installed or something.

None of that sort of thing can or would be affected by the server move.

Sometimes when I go to post something, it will freeze and then I will get the "Report error" message and it will close and restart IE.

Could that be a side effect of the server, as i don't recall it ever happening before. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Not that I know of... the code here is no different than the old server... so I really doubt it.

[color:"orange"]only thing new was updating Adobe script/Java???

Anyways haven't experienced it since...and it only happened here. Even during the glitch and had Browns Chat still opened on my bar as I bounce around...went there and keyboard worked fine. Again only happened here...and the good news haven't experienced it since so a moot point I hope.

Works fast.

Post tracking is working much better for me now. I haven't had a problem with it yet.

I too liked the ability to have mulitiple members in a PM topic.

Also liked the idea of being able to create a photo album by uploading images directly from the computer without having to use an image host. I never used it, but I liked the concept.

There were good things about that board. Unfortunately, the missing components are the exact features a board needs to make it easy to navigate thereby making it useable.

All in all, the new server is doing it's job very well.

Kudos for your care and commitment to this board.

no, the only thing new is the machine the site is running on, none of the programming/software changed at all.

Personalized photo albums is something I've been looking into a bit...haven't fully decided on anything yet though.

[color:"orange"]not to confuse you...it was the only thing new I've done with my computer in that interim was some new downloads to upgrade. Not knowing if that could make the snafu on my side...still good news hasn't reoccured.

ahhh...gotcha, trying to follow to many things, heh

That should not have caused the effect you described, but I guess as long as it isn't broken, no sense in trying to figure out what fixed it <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
