I don't expect you to remember what I said or even look it up... but no, I don't think that's all we should change. I am all for continuing to explore alternatives and for pushing for efficiencies in the things we use now and will continue to use...

Unfortunately, even if we decided to explore, drill and refine a greater capacity today, it would be quite a few years before it hit the market to affect prices.. we fought that battle years ago and we lost, the environmentalists won and now we are in deep doo doo.

My only comment on alternatives is that there are several out there, ethanol, electricity, hydrogen, wind, solar, nuclear, etc... some are better suited for some applications than others, each has its positives and its negatives.. we need to weigh the positives and negatives before we latch on to one of them.. we can't just change the automotive infrastructure to accomodate electric and then find we picked the wrong one and that hydrogen is actually much much better... we need to move forward, but not at the pace where we could make a huge mistake.

Fuel Cells are the way to go for people that take long trips or long commutes.

Electric is a nice alternative for those that are just looking for a commuter car or weekend errands. I can fully see a family garage with 1 of each in it in the future.

Even with Hydrogen you still have fueling costs, and right now there's no telling what that will be, but knowing how free enterprise works, they will structure it based on the gas prices at the time it becomes widely available, just slightly less, so it looks like they are saving you money.

I think it's just nice that we are finally seeing viable alternatives that look like cars, not go-carts.

BTW, for those that like useless knowledge, Ethanol was the fuel of choice by Henry Ford, but prohibition pushed the conversion to petroleum.
