I mainly started this thread to see if anyone knew the name of the band that recently re-did a Michael Jackson song. I think the song is "Bad" but i'm not sure.

There have been quite a few great remakes over the years and I was wondering if anyone knew of any. The version Of Billy Jean that David Cook did on American Idol originally re-made by Chris Cornell was also a great Michael Jackson re-make.

The only Michael Jackson remake that comes to mind that is semi-recently was "Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm.

My personal all-time favorite remake is "Blue Monday" by Orgy.

Yeah I forgot about Smooth Criminal. This song has come out within a few weeks. I just heard it on the radio Friday and it was really good.

The Ataris version of Don Henleys Boys of summer was a really good one I thought.

Though I am not a huge fans of songs being remade, two that come to mind are, Radar Love by White Lion, and Walk this Way, by Aerosmith, when they collaborated with Run DMC, that was a solid performance, plus the video was funny as hell.

You're right, pretty good little remake. Listening to it now!

I like the original (Mikey was actually enjoyable in his hey day). He had some great songs back then.

Then I dunno wtf happened.....

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

Possibly the best remake in music history. Bob Dylan originated the tune.

I liked Metallica's version of "Turn the Page" much better than the original version by Bob Seger.

WOW I did not know that, Jimis version is one of my all time favorites. His rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodtock always gives me goosebumps also.

I am looking forward to David Cooks first CD, Despite it being American Idol I really liked him. He really has a way of owning a song. There were several times that he brought tears to my eyes with songs, including his cover of Collective Sould in the finale.

As far as covering songs. Aaron Lewis really has done a nice job of coverng songs acoustically. Black by Pearl Jam, Sober by Tool, and Nothing else matters by Metallica are three that really come to mind and are easy to find on You Tube. My favorite though is his cover of Comfortably Numb by Floyd. Good stuff.

Yeah I think he might even be bigger than Daughtry. Some of Daughtry's music is good but he never once delivered a song on American Idol that gave me chills. David Cook did that quite a few times. You can really tell he's putting his self into it and not just singing the song.

Not trying to pimp Aaron Lewis all the time but he is one of the only other artists who can do that to me. Just completely amaze me and bring a big lump to my throat with his performance of a song.

He's definately got alot of talent. A song I would like him to re-do is Nutcracker by Alice in Chains.

Epiphany is one of my all time favorite songs.

It always seems that a Staind/Aaron Lewis song will catch me as something that is going on in my life and just make me go "WOW I could have wrote that song with what I am going through right now"

Here is a version of Epiphany with Amy Lee

I agree with the Manson version of "sweet dreams" I love that tune. A few more of my favorites:
"Summer Breeze" and "Cinnamon Girl" by Type O Negative
"Crazy" - Mushroomhead
"Shout" and "Land of Confusion" by Disturbed.

Children of Bodom has done some justice to Britney Spears

WHAT?!?!?!?!?! Blasphemy!

The original is so dull and boring, Orgy's version flippin' ROCKS! That song gets me so pumped!

When I heard it, I was thinking, how did they pick this song? Such a bland song and make it 100x better and rock it out. Not only is that my all-time favorite cover, it's probably my favorite rock song.

Prince did an astoundingly well-produced/performed cover of the Stylistics' "Betcha By Golly Wow on his 1996 joint," Emancipation.

Atmosheric and up-to-date, it still manages to evoke a certain "live concert" feel. If you're a Prince fan, get this one...

I always thought that Prince did his very best work when covering others' songs. He shines, and is at his absolute best on this tune. Olde Shchool meets Nu Skool in a sweet symbiosis.

LittleMan's a talent, yo.

Favorite remake.................hmmmmm.

Oh yea, this is a great remake of an old Leadbelly song.

Or how about "Dynamite Hack" covering "Boyz in the Hood"---can't post here due to language.

Or how about Nirvana covering The Meat Puppets' "Lake of Fire"

Johnny Cash remaking NINs "Hurt" is pretty amazing too.

The Fighters of Foo do a great version of Prince's "Darling Nikki" also.

Blackfoot had a great body of their own work, But I really liked their covers of "Wishing Well" (Free) and "I Got A Line On You" (Spirit).

Eric Clapton's version of Jimi's "Little Wing" is better than Jimi''s original, IMO.

Linda Ronstadt did a beautiful rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" (long before Whitney Houston made it a mega-hit ... Linda's was better).

I never heard Linda's version of that song, but I've always thought Dolly's was better than Whitney's anyway. Maybe it's because Whitney's was SO DAMN OVERPLAYED!

I love Garth Brooks's version of Billy Joel's I'm Shameless (though I love Joel's version too).

The Beatles version of the Isley Brother's Twist and Shout.

Speaking of great remakes, Dolly and Linda teamed up with Emmylou Harris to do a version of Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush" ... I liked it a lot.

You can hear it here (I think ... if not, go to Google Video or YouTube and search it):
