ya know what...I was talking to my housemate about this last night, because he's a big Steeler fan...gag i know.
but...He said that while Ben does this stuff and that its really classy...apparently he can also be a . He said his cousin went to a restaurant in SC that Ben owned, and their waitress had no good things to say about him.
"It has to start somewhere It has to start somehow What better place than here? What better time than now?"

I REALLY don't want to pile on here.. because I know he has done plenty of good things with his money...
But as someone who lived and still frequently visits his hometown (Findlay), I RARELY find anyone who has anything very nice to say about their personal experiences with him.
I'm sure that he probably gets tired of fans always coming up to him and talking to him. But I worked at Best Buy there a bit and I know that the first person to come up and offer help was usually barked at, and he wasn't very friendly/helpful when paying for items either.
There was also at least one time I'm aware of when he made a big scene not wanting to pay a 2 or 3 dollar cover at a local bar.. pulling the whole "don't you know who I am?!" (Sure they knew who he was.. and they were damn sure he could afford the cover ) A friend of his ended up paying the cover out of his pocket to smooth things over.
Again, I'm torn, because I know he's done good things.. and he is a local boy.. But I just don't hear that many good personal experience stories about him.. Even from those who know him pretty well. And it's not like it's all because he's a Steeler... It's sickening the amount of instant Steeler fans that popped up the minute he was picked.

I saw that last night...nice segment, regardless of how much or how little he really had to do with it.
Re: Ben being a 49ers fan growing up, its funny because when I used to work in FIndlay during Ben's last two years at Miami, I'm almost certain all the articles about him (and they were in the paper daily) talked about how he was a fan of the Browns as a team and Montana and Elway as individuals. I remember being a bit amused by all the talk of how he was a huge 49ers fan after he was drafted, because it was contrary to what I'd read. I'm sure he has image consultants telling him its not a good idea to say that you're a fan of the archrival of the team that just made you its centerpiece.

I thought he was a 49ers fan.
actually I read a story on Charlie Frye in the PD prior to the '06 season that said he was a 49ers fan...maybe they both were. They both grew up about 60 miles apart (Findlay and Willard).
Go Browns!

I have new respect for Ben now.. But he's a Steeler so respect only goes so far From the article: Roethlisberger is a little different. He is from Findlay, Ohio, an area better known for its Browns and Bengals fans, yet he very much wanted to play for the 49ers. He wears No. 7 in honor of John Elway, but the 49ers were his team. My question: Who did he root for in XXIV? His boy Elway got killed against the 49ers..Back in the '80s and '90s, the 49ers were a stretch-the-field team that didn't have a single 100-yard rusher in their five Super Bowl victories. I guess you learn something new every day. That's amazing but it doesn't sound right--they should've had a 100-yard rusher to keep their defenses honest but I guess not. Not even in XXIV or XXIX?
Go Browns!
