Breaking: LeCharles Bentley in Berea

By Barry McBride

Posted Jun 10, 2008

The fate of offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley will be clarified today in Berea, a day after he received a physical from team physicians. We will provide updates here as soon as we get them...

9:55AM: The OBR's Lane Adkins reports that LeCharles Bentley is in camp, in uniform, and is lined up with other players as the team prepares to practice.

9:30AM: A press conference with Phil Savage has been scheduled for 10AM today. Sources tell the OBR that

Great News, I don't know if I can remember a player I have rooted so hard for.

To not ONLY be a member of this team, but to be a contributing member.

The press conference when he signed gave me goosebumps, as I can see myself ( and most of the posters on here) doing the same thing he did in ripping off his dress shirt to expose the CLEVELAND BROWNS FOOTBALL JERSEY !!!!!!

This guy LOVES the Browns, and yes, though there may be some bad blood somewhere within the organization, IF he is able to put on that uniform come game day, I have NO DOUBT that he will leave it all on the field for his teamates and the fans.

Good Luck LeCharles, and take care of yourself, the BROWNS will follow.

Now we get the opportunity to see a little of what he can bring...Movement. OL really starts in Training camp when full pad hitting starts.

But I'm sure the process of LCB will be Interior depth as he establishes himself as fit to play.

Then when he starts to show some of his stud capabilities returning to form - I think we will sign him to a new contract (off season or during???, more than likely off season). This year he probably will be a fill in starter...wait for somebody to get a ding and then take over the position for the rest of the season.

But if he stays here as a long term solution, I'm sure he will be our Center. Hank was signed to a very fair 4 year contract this will be #2...the next two will be as Insurance to LCB - but remember I'm talking about 09 here. 08 I think Hank is pretty secure with the starting position.

Boy what a long journey our OL has taken in 2 short years - where possibly now a rehabbed Multi-Pro Bowler will be eased into a position rather than thrust into the starting role in hopes of resurrecting the OL.

Now its a sit back and wait situation and see what develops...but we are in a Win, Win situation. The only thing I am not comfortable with is the fact that LCB is not signed anymore...although I'm sure the heft part of his contract years were coming up. As long as its understood we get first crack at him in a new contract! And will we pay up the mega millions on an already highly invested in OL???

Bentley cleared, in uniform
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
06.10.2008
It took all of about two minutes for news to come out of the start of Browns minicamp Tuesday morning.

LeCharles Bentley was in uniform, and Browns General Manager Phil Savage said Bentley was medically cleared by the team on Monday night, then passed the running test that all players must pass before they participate in on-field practice work.

Just how much work Bentley will be able to do on the field over the next three days remains to be seen, but his presence alone is seen by many as a remarkable step. Bentley signed with the Browns in March 2006 but suffered a torn patellar tendon during the Browns' first training camp practice four months later and hasn't been able to play since.

"It's been a long road back," Savage said. "I can't say to what extent he'll be working or what he'll be able to do, but you have to give him a lot of credit for working to get to this point.

"Obviously he's made tremendous strides to even be here. He really wants to do this. You tip your hat to him for all the work he's put in trying to get back on the field."

Savage said Kellen Winslow is in the building and is expected to participate on a "limited" basis, as is Gary Baxter. Both were stretching with the team at the beginning of practice.

Steve Heiden was also on the field Tuesday morning; he missed most of the team's spring work while recovering from back surgery.

Still rehabbing and out for this week are Joe Jurevicius, Ryan Tucker, Steve Sanders and Justin Sandy. Savage said Donte' Stallworth and Brandon McDonald have been excused due to deaths in their families.

Lennie Friedman's wife gave birth yesterday, but Friedman was on the practice field Tuesday morning. Stay tuned for more throughout the day including raw video, press conferences and stories.

The Browns will practice twice Tuesday, twice Wednesday and once Thursday before being dismissed for the summer. Training camp is tentatively set to begin in late July.
