It seems this was a good trade for the Indians. We get a power prospect to fill a corner OF position which we desperately need. Plus a potential relief guy in A ball and a player to be named later...but it's from a strong group we get to pick from by the end of the year.

This was a fantastic trade for the Brewers. They get one of the most dominant lefty strikeout pitchers in baseball for a half a season then get top picks when he vanishes in the offseason. LaPorte is a top prospect sitting in the minors that plays at positions that the Brewers are already stacked. With the draft picks they can address other needs....it's like trading LaPorte for picks....and you get one of the top pitchers in the game as a rental?!?

Great trade for the Brew crew.

You may not like him but I agree. I thought it was funny that it said his "wife and three kids". Wasn't he just in jail for stalking an ex-girlfriend?

Voice from the past: Albert Belle doesn't like Sabathia trade

Albert Belle on today's baseball and the Sabathia trade: "There are a lot of people on teams making a lot of bad decisions. You don't always have to spend a lot of money. Look at what Billy Beane does in Oakland." Detroit --- Hot-tempered Albert Belle, the former Tribe slugger, called to voice his displeasure with the CC Sabathia trade to Milwaukee.

"Imagine that, the Cleveland Indians trade away another great player because they didn't want to pay him," said Belle from his home in Arizona. "The saga continues."

Belle left the Indians after the 1996 season and signed a five-year, $55 million contract with the White Sox. At the time it was the biggest deal in baseball.

"When is Larry Dolan going to sell the club?" said Belle. "I could buy a piece of it. There are a lot of people on teams making a lot of bad decisions. You don't always have to spend a lot of money. Look at what Billy Beane does in Oakland."

Asked if he wanted to get back into the game, Belle said, "I want to be an owner. The Mariners called me and wanted me to come to spring training as a roving hitting coach. But they were going to pay me peanuts."

Belle, married with three daughters, spends most of his time golfing.

"I'm a golf pro," said Belle, with a laugh. "At least in my mind I am."

Belle said he tried to buy pieces of the Cavs and Dodgers without success.

Told the Indians have no power with the exception of Grady Sizemore, Belle said, "They got rid of three of us, Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez and me."

Who says we still can't pay him? Last I checked, he would be a free agent, and we can still offer him the exact same amount we were planning to offer anyway. At least this way, we've got a couple decent minor league prospects out of the "rental".

PSSSTTT Joey, thats all your worth. You had a chance to stay in Cleveland, and be set for life, but your over sized ego blew all of that. Right now if we met, You should be the one asking me for my autograph, instead of the other way around.

More from Terry Pluto in today's (7/13) Plain Dealer on the player-to-be-named-later:

I've heard a new name as a possibility to be the player to be named in the CC Sabathia deal with Milwaukee. He's Jonathan Lucroy, a 22-year-old catcher who was the Brewers' third-round pick in 2007. He was just promoted from Class A West Virginia in the South Atlantic League to Class A Brevard County of the Florida State League. In those two combined places, he's hitting .321 with 14 HR and 49 RBI in 302 at-bats. For his pro career (all in Class A) heading into the weekend, he is a .327 hitter with 18 HR and 88 RBI in 535 at-bats, good for a .902 OPS.

I'm reasonably confident 21-year-old third baseman Taylor Green is on the list. He's hitting .291 at Brevard with an .813 OPS along with 10 HR and 55 RBI in 306 at-bats. He told local reporters he's heard rumors about the Indians wanting to see if he can play second base, but he continues to play third - his preferred position.

I hope 21-year-old outfielder Michael Brantley is on the list. He is hitting .324 at Class AA Hunstville with a .405 on-base percentage and 25 steals. He's a speed guy, not much power, but a career .311 hitter in the minors with 188 walks compared to 133 strikeouts in 1,278 at-bats - so he makes contact. Brantley's agent told The PD's Paul Hoynes that his client is not on the list, but as one GM told me, "That's not information that you'd share with an agent."

What's up with the Tribe?? They just 4-game swept the Rays.

Also making an appearance was a rarely known presence called, "offense".

Who knows with this team.

I like how they are 12 games UNDER .500 but still have a +8 run differential. KC (who is still ahead of us in the standings) has a -61 differential...

That run differential translates to a lot of 1 or 2-run losses. If we had a healthy VMart and Hafner all season, we would still be in contention.

...oh well. Here's to getting back to .500, playing the spoiler role and pulling of a few more trades to bolster our minor league system.
