There is a lot that has to shake itself out here, IMO. Doesn't matter how far he's come on his rehab at this point, he's on the field so it's assumed he can line up and play, but he must be behind the curve in terms of system, timing and chemistry. How quickly he adjusts is anybody's guess but I doubt it happens in this mini-camp. He didn't participate in the second practice yesterday, maybe he's just sore from all the activity, but eventually he'll need to put on pads and compete for his spot on the roster like everyone else. If he can beat out Hank or Hadnot or Mckinney or whoever then he sticks, but that is what he's going to have to do, beat out someone to get the spot. If he's willing and able then he probably will because he has the talent, but if he can't earn his spot then the team will be forced to move on without him. In that sense, it is a business and both man and team have to do what is best for each of them.
What won't be allowed to happen here is distraction caused by veiled finger pointing real or media generated. RAC has the team focused and an o-line that works. If Bentley is to be a part of that then he'll have to earn his way on and seamlessly fit in without a bunch of fanfare and hoopla. When LeCharles came here he was heralded as the savior of the O-line, now there is enough talent that he, even at peak performance, is just another piece of the puzzle. Frankly, that's how it should be. I love the guy and hope he makes it onto the roster and stays on it for many years, but it's the Cleveland Browns, not the Cleveland Bentleys and everyone out there knows that.
