How do you make money off of a $300 security deposit when he didnt pay bills as long as you say he did. Let alone split it with your other roommates.
Are you guys legal Mexicans?
Also, it looks like you came here to get some advice to see if you can get away with this, if you actually did make money off of it.
Im glad I followed advice since I graduated 12 years ago, NEVER LIVE WITH FRIENDS.

I don't know if I do for sure or not.
Because he didn't check out with the front office and didn't provide a forwarding address, landlord reserves the right to withhold his security deposit.
Landlord, being my parents, would then give the security deposit to me, or at least enough to cover the bills he owes me.
I probably wouldn't get the whole thing, the rest would go towards the $120 late fee he owes as well, that we weren't planning to charge him for because we were going to be nice. But since he turned out to be such a rotten piece of crap, we might as well hold onto it.

Or go buy Chipotle and beer with it, which Iam guessing was the plan right from the beginning.

Not at all.
Don't even imply that I tried to screw him over at all...he's the one who never paid his bills, scared away my friends when they came over, was late on rent, etc.

Honestly, Ammo... did you actually learn anything from this episode? Anything you could take from it that might help down the road? That IS what these little episodes are about, you know...
you- ...uh... DID know that... right?
I'm only asking, because even though this drama might be slowing down, I haven't seen any evidence of reflection in the things you've written to us.
Dude... I don't care as much about what's happening to you as I do about how it's effected you. In other words- are you any smarter for it? That's the kind of stuff that interests Old Dawgs.
Gimme three things you'd have done differently, if you knew then what you know now. Humor an Old Dawg for a minnit, won'tcha?
C'mon... keep my interest in this story....

Yeah, I learned "if it looks like a rat, smells like a rat..."
We had a guy come in to look at the vacant room for next year (since the roommate missed a quarter because he was suspended, we couldn't tell him he wasn't living with us until it was too late to find anyone good to live with us) and I immediately could tell it wouldn't be a good fit.
He came in, I showed him the place, and he asked flat out what kind of guys the 3 of us were. I was honest, not trying to make a sales pitch.
"We watch sports a lot and we party on the weekends."
he said "I don't think this situation will work out, I'm anal about having quiet all the time." Ok...no harm no foul.
I learned not to take on a possible problem. People say "Don't live with friends." I say from my experience "Friends make the best roommates" because yeah, sometimes things go wrong and living situations don't work out, but in the end you trust one another.
I couldn't trust the psychopath for a second.

I think in this situation he got lucky in that the roomate didn't make any more trouble during the transition other than the fireworks. At this point I'd be willing to pay the $300 if I knew I'd get a guarantee forever that the roomie was gone. They just need to be more careful and watch their backs as long as they're in Athens.
I knew two friends at West Geauga (my alma mater) who went to college and roomed. They had been best buds for 11 years...elementary, middle, high school. They got to college and they don't speak to each other after living together for just one year in the dorm/apartment whatever.
It depends on the personalities. If you're good at "reading" people finding a roomate will be challenging but at least you know what to read and look for. In some cases you want "opposites attract" but in other cases you want that common bond ideal.
Go Browns!

Actually I have learned a lot...
-Be smart in choosing roommates. -Keep your cool. It's better to vent on a message board than vent with your fists. -Someone can make all these big claims about how they refuse to pay back what they owe, but all it takes is them to slip up just once and bam, the victim ends up the winner. -Some people are just plain sick in the head and look for reasons to cause chaos. -Some people think negative attention is attention nonetheless because they don't know how to get good attention. (example: his jokes about roofieing women, and his chicken bag in the freezer that was labeled "human children") -In the end, you know you're on the right side when not one person will defend the opponent.

A big fat no sums it up. For someone to ask for advice then picks certain questions that only benifited his stance, isn't asking for advice, it's nothing more then a story behind a story, and the outcome of this situation makes the initial poster Ammo happy since he feels like he bettered others. I think the real fact is, that Ammo was just blowing smoke up our collective asses, not only to get attention, but also make himself out to be better then the rest of us, which was a complete failure. In the long run, Ammo had nothing but excuses for what was actually being said, and concocted a very lame story to try and make himself look intelligent when we all know better. This whole tale smells of one big fat lie with nothing more then him trying to deceit others to believe him, but since we only hear one side of the story( which was totally exaggerated by Ammo) his Ex roommate probably could tell us stories of Ammo being the immature kid he is on a regular basis, but Ammo will ignore that, because it doesn't matter to him, because at his maturity level, his mind tells him he's cool, sad but true, and I've seen thousands of "Ammos" in my time, and I truly think he feels he's getting over on us. . For someone wanting advice he sure had answers, but only to specific questions, not the numerous ones asked. I see this as nothing more then lies from a kid trying to act and think he's cool. All these rental answers could have been answered by his mommy and daddy since they own the property, but it's a damn shame he comes here and tries to justify his sad immature actions. Ammo get a grip, no one with half a brain buys into your attempt to be cool, It's not working, find another shtick. We all know you love attention, but the more you keep acting foolish the more of us will continue to laugh at you, even though a handful of 12-20 year olds might find you cool, and for them I wish they ignore you silliness and grow, something you have not even come close to achieving.

Because he didn't check out with the front office and didn't provide a forwarding address, landlord reserves the right to withhold his security deposit.
Landlord, being my parents, would then give the security deposit to me, or at least enough to cover the bills he owes me.
Wrong. Landlord keeps the security deposit if there is damage to the apartment. "Landlord" does not have any right to keep the security deposit in order to re-imburse other co lessees for utility bills that aren't paid.
Don't front ammo. You live in your parents place for free is my guess - rent free anyway. This guy supposedly stiiffed you for bills - but that only means you put your name on the utilities. Your problem.
You need to understand a lease is different from utilities, unless it so states otherwise in the lease agreement. Utilities are nothing/mean nothing to your mom and dad since you have told us they were not included in the rent.
I wonder how/why sometimes you say "my mon and dad, the landlords" but then you put the heat on the management - who the hell runs the show there? Is it your mom and dad? Or is it the management? Can't be 2 ponies running the circus, yet you give us "mom and dad" one time, and "management" the next.
I think you have a screwed up situation, or you're feeding us a bunch of b.s.
Hope you have a good night out at the bars.

Some of you guys are ridiculous. I mean seriously. You'll rag on him for 'attempting to be/look better than everyone' and 'for faking his maturity', yet the 'holier than thou' persona you all try to display is perfectly acceptable. I guess you could call it ageism?

my friends and I make all kinds of sick jokes like that...I'd definitely say we're alright. Of course we're saying it in jest.
I guess my point is there are two sides to every story. While he might have been a bad roommate, perhaps he didnt realize it.

You can call it anything you want. The fact remains ammo is still living off his parents, but attempts to deny it. While many, many college kids live off their parents, his attempt to cry "I'm being wronged" is just a ploy.
I've got money saying ammo never once has written a check to his parents, OR to the "management" for rent - other than what his room mates have given him...yet he still complains.
He brags about drinking so much, which costs, he brags about getting the newest phone, which costs, he brags about the latest t.v. he got, he has all the video games a person can imagine, yet he's excited about a $300 deposit he gets? He's not the one that gets the deposit. Mom and dad are the ones that get it - as the landlords. That in itself tells you ammo is full of crap. Just in this thread he's been bitching about how much money this ex roomy owes, yet he's tickled to death over how he'll make money on the deposit???????????????????????? What? He's a damn renter - unless he's not paying rent. Which he isn't, I'm sure.....not since mom and dad own the building....yet then he says the building "managers"...............but he says he's a poor college student. Yeah....poor college student whose mommy and daddy pay for his college and his apartment while he has money to go out drinking, go to Browns games, get new phones, etc.
The whole story doesn't add up. Anyone with an open mind would see that. But you go ahead and call it "ageism" if that makes you feel better.
I'm only 39. Imagine what people with common sense that are 40, 50, 60, 70, or 80 call it. They'd call it spoiled ass kid that has no clue what life is about. But yes, it must be "ageism".

Actually I do pay rent to them...and as far as the landlord/manager situation, we signed off to let the front desk manage the individual unit. We do NOT own the complex, just the one single unit. Think of it more as a condo than an apartment, it's a hybrid of sorts.
And Fletch...you have NO CLUE about the situation. You claim I'm blowing smoke and making things up or blowing things way out of proportion. NOT TRUE. The guy was a complete sociopath probably with some issues. I'm a perfectly normal person with common sense.
It's no attention ploy, it's reality.
For Christ sakes I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. Whatever. Doesn't bug me.

22 and I can see it You aren't too far off the mark in my estimation. Of course I've had a job since I was 16 and did numerous odd jobs before that, and I pay my own way through school. I even file for my financial aid independent. And no, I don't have all the newest gadgets and a hard nights drinking for me might be relaxing with a 6 pack after work once a month. However, I don't resent those spoiled people I meet. I think there's something to be said for earning everything you have...even if it isn't much. Instills a sense of pride that cant be matched. JMH2cents.

dude that's harsh. you make a few points and your response is well-thought out. But I know him and he's a good guy.
I personally don't know his roommate, nor do I want to, but you haven't met him IRL. Maybe you have and I could be wrong.
Your point about not hearing the roommate's side of the story is valid however. Good discussion.

It takes a sociopath to know what a sociopath is, so if the shoe fits then wear it proudly. The fact is I don't buy your story, and I am sure others don't as well. I am sure your only telling us what YOU want us to know, I bet your ex-roommate has issues with you as well, but you at the mature level that your at like to slander others when they don't have the means to defend themselves. Thats sad, and quite immature. Arch is dead on about you as well, you have lived your life with a silver spoon in your mouth, and your so wet behind your ears at your age, it's pathetic. I doubt you know what it's like to be accountable for your actions since your mom and dad will bail you out, time after time, it's like your still attached to your mom's umbilical cord, well there will come a day they won't be bailing you out, and it's gonna suck for you since you don't live in the real world. this thread was basically an attempt for you to gain sympathy from other posters, and from the looks of it, that move backfired. You are right I don't know the whole situation, and really don't care since kiddie drama isn't my cup of tea, but is fun to read when there are a bunch of lies involved, such as this post, but your a fool if you think allot of us will take what you say as the total truth. There are two sides to every story, and I think you inflated your end of this trivial tale. Now it's over so do us all a favor and make an attempt to at least mature some, if not were just going to keep laughing at you at your own expense.

You haven't been around long enough to read about his excessive drinking, his driving under the influence and many other silly threads he has posted over a period of time. The kid is nothing more then a drama queen and the more you read his threads, the more he portrays himself as the little immature kid that he acts like on these boards. It's not cool, and he's been constantly mocked for acting like this, but he doesn't see it or care because he lives his life with mom and dad blinders on. You may call my post harsh. but I call it as what I perceive from this kid, and this is his usual immature behavior. Can you believe that their are 15 year olds on this board that act allot more mature then Ammo? Scary isn't it, but your new sit back and read the next couple of months, and you'll see why allot of us have this opinion of Ammo. I also love when he starts talking in third person too, thats usually when he hits uberdork status. As for his roommate, I bet he has just as many issues with Ammo as Ammo has with him, but the difference is that his roommate isn't hiding behind his back slandering him on a message board, which is the ultimate childish move. Plus only a handful of people care about this and this post could have been PM'ed to the 5 people who cared (if that many), but he felt the need to make it public, so now he has to face the responses from posters. If he didn't like some of the answers then he should have kept this tale to himself. Oh and Ammo, I don't believe your story as a whole, not saying there isn't some truth to it, but I am sure your leaving out parts that would make you look foolish, since like I've been stating, there are 2 sides to every story, and I think your only giving a quarter of it. Now go buy that 500 dollar phone you need to survive, since your such a poor college kid.

Who's acting holier then now? He posted a thread and people replied. He knew the responses he was going to receive, so if anything he brought this on himself. Don't believe me? Look at the questions that were asked when he was suppose ably asking for advice, but he ignored those questions since they didn't suite his needs. Just read this thread, and you can see what he picks and chooses to answer. That tells me this story sounds like someone (Ammo) is trying to cover up holes in a swiss cheese story.
If anything your the one acting "special", but go ahead and back this immature fellow, there is always one in a crowd, and your that one.

I don't find this juicy at all. I find this sad that someone acts the way Ammo does on a regular basis. IF he didn't want to be considered immature and thought of as a kid with a silver spoon in his mouth, he wouldn't post stories such as this, which are filled with half truths and straight out lies.
