Add what he said to my post. I agree 100% with everything there.
EDIT: I'd just like to add that I see DA as the one big question mark we have going into this season. I think our success, or failure, lies on him.

So you can throw your "bad weather excuses" out the window. In the Cincy game AND in the Pro Bowl. Or was it the "bad weather" in the Pro Bowl too?
Are we really judging DA on his probowl play
Seems silly to me. Don't use that to support your argument

On the national stage on national TV and he looked like crap. Just like when the playoffs and his future contract was on the line.
When the heat is on, DA melts. It is what it is. The Pro Bowl was a chance to redeem showcasing his abilities after his awfull performance against Cincy. You don't have to count it if you choose not to. But QB's are supposed to play QB in every game. And in his last two performances?

I don't leave it out...you and others are misrepresenting that YPA as a fact that he takes these long shots.
Wow Eo, your usually pretty fair in most of what you post and say IF you look at DA's completion percentage ( I think you did) and then you look at his YPA he is no Tom Brady or Manning, but guy he stacks up real well against Carson Palmer and Drew Brees 2 guys I might add that ARE considered to be pretty darned good QB's not on the level of TB or PM, but pretty good none the less. Both I might add had higher completion percentages then DA, yet DA is tied with CP in YPA and beats out DB's in YPA. Now perhaps you can explain how it is that DA has as good as if not better YPA average both of theses guys yet has a lower completion percentage. The writting is on the wall, but please tell me how that can be so with a poor completion percentage if your not chucking the ball down the field.. And when you factor in their TD to Int percentage he stacks up real well there too. I say not bad for a 1st year starter. In other words there is HOPE. He isn't the lost cause you SEEM to be saying he is.
Let me add this too CF had a much better completion percentage then DA, I sure as hell don't want CF back under center. The point is that when completion percentage adds up to W's then you got me. Until then I got my opinion too....

Deep- DA threw some bombs, but I don't think the number is as high as you're thinking it is. He threw a lot of medium depth passes in the 20 yard range. That's his bread and butter. He connected on a lot of big plays and TDs over the middle for 20 yards or so. Made some absolutely beautiful throws there.
But, like EO said, his short game is putrid. Stuff that every QB should be able to hit, DA struggled with many times. Seems like we work the slant now and again. IF thrown properly, it can go for long gains. Look back at Braylon's first TD in the NFL against GB. I believe he went 80 yards on a quick slant.
I don't know how many times I saw DA throw the quick slant low. Guys shouldn't be diving or going to the ground to get the pass. It should be thrown in stride, right in front of their chest. Then on short crossing routes, I saw him throwing it all over. Behind, too high, too low, to the defender.
If DA can get that taken care of, his game would improve dramatically.

The funny part about it was he had 2 of his own receivers he was throwing to, and he was the one QB they talked about during the game that picked up the offense quickly because Chud worked basically the same offense in SD.
Then he comes out and couldn't hit a damn thing.
Sorry guys, I don't care what game it is, if it counts or not, the point is he looked awful. And the offense has the advantage in the Pro Bowl because of the limitations they put on the D. No matter how you slice it, DA was about as inaccurate as you can possibly get in an NFL game.
He has absolutely no excuse for the way he played. All the other guys had a layoff just like him, they all had new guys to work with, they all had to learn the offense, but our QB stunk up the joint.
It happened. It's a fact. Deal with it.

That's because Charlie probably threw less because he was spending his time running in circles in the backfield. Smacking into defenders.

I'm not making excuses for DA's short game being horrible. It is. What I am saying is that throwing long passes has some affect on his percentage, no matter how small.

Yeah the shoe fits with you too... Pit just because you won't or can't see value doesn't mean it isn't there... 3 years 27 million, pal... Any questions give Randy, PS and RC and call then get back to us all... Thanks...
Have you not been reading my posts and opinions on DA over the past few years... Obviosuly not... Maybe you should... I blew up the choice of DA... Was one of the biggest bahsers, disbelievers on the guy... I am still not sold... DA has limitations and areas to improve upon... Have I written here that he doesn't? NO! You and I have areas to improve on too and after reading the BS on this thread I can clearly see that many of us haven't... There is no such thing as a perfect QB... You should know that...
Look at the entire body of work... Quit copping out by playing take away... You have to take the good with the bad... Or your takes don't mean diddly...
For a first year starter with a rebuilt 0-Line, new O cord & scheme, an RB trying to reprove himself behind that 0-Line, a young head case WR & TE who had underachived in their careers with the Browns up to that point, comming off the offensive cluster ___ of 2006... DA and the Browns fricken lit it up. And you guys keep harping on the obvious... How can the guy do anything about his areas to improve upon he hasn't had a chance yet? But many of you keep whinming and moaning like a bunch of little sissy's... You are bleeding before you are cut... Some of you are all over DA like he beat up your brother, slept with your sister or disrespected your parents... What in the heck is wrong with you guys? Get off the guy and get behind him... HE IS THE CLEVELAND BROWNS STARTING PRO-BOWL QB FOR CRIPES SAKES...
Take a cold shower and get a clue... You got anything else to say PM me.
Next...

Heldawg, you are hitting the nail on the head! I love DA-except for those 2-3 games that we all know he's gonna have this year-heck he even had one in the pro bowl, if anybody was watching.
Now the question is how do we handle those games-esp if the playoffs are on the line like last year? Do we pull him and win, or let him flounder and lose?

You ponted to a 3 year deal as evidence of the FOs belief in DA. I would seriously not hang my hat on a 3 year deal. If they were "sold" on him, why wouldn't they have locked up a 6 year deal, like DA and his agent wanted?
The bottom line is that there are holes in DA's game. Can he improve? Yes. Will he? That remains to be seen.
I do know that I am very comfortable with the QB situation. DA may improve his weaknesses. If he doesn't, we have a tremendous prospect, for lack of a better word, waiting in the wings.
Bottom line is I don't care WHO the franchise QB ends up being as long as he IS a franchise QB.

Even if neither turns into that as compared to franchise qbs like Manning or Brady, I am good with that.
I know at this point Anderson is good enough. If Quinn is better than DA...great. If Quinn pushes DA to become a little better....great.
We don't need the best qb on the planet.....just one of the better ones....and I think we have that now when you consider DA just played his first year as a starter.
We can win with DA, and can probably win with Quinn.
I don't understand the bickering on the subject. I really don't.

I agree with you regarding our QB situation being a very good one... If I was DA I would be very happy with the 3 year deal... If he plays like he did last year or improves, the sky will be the limit in three years... If not he got what he was worth at the time he signed the 3 year deal. I am stoked about having BQ. He should be a very good QB in this league. Yes I did point out the 3 year deal... Not hanging my hat on this alone... It is a lot of cabbage and a nice chuck of guarantee $$$ to not be considered a positive indication of the Browns commitment. It's proof that the organization has faith in DA... 3 years worth @ about 9 mill per... Don't know how bad they wanted to trade DA and how they handled the deal this off season is more proof to me anyway, that they really wanted to get him signed. Factor in BQ's contract and that’s about 49 mil invested in QB for the next 3 years... BQ's deal was for 4... Interesting timing... Both QB's contacts up the same year... I believe that the Browns window is the next three years, for a championship, SB run... Many factors indicate this to me... I've said it how many times...??? DA has drawbacks and areas to improve in... Hope he improves... But he is not, Leaf, Kilingler,Ware, Mirer, Druckenmiller, A. Smith, McNown, D. Brown, Marinovich, McGwire, Boller or Harrington... DA is a seventh round, waiver wire pick up... Hum... I wonder why he has flaws... He has vastly improved since college... Few here realize this either... I have not said he is the end all... He deserves more respect than he is getting... When you consider who is showing DA little respect, it's really not that damn important or relevant in the end anyway... I just want to win... Even if Eotab is the QB, I don't care... Who ever brings us a division crown & AFC championship and a SB I'll stand behind... I'm tired of reading the constant BS and subjective conjecture... May peace be with you man and until next time...

Really, we aren't.
That is how I view it....I wasn't sure of your meaning....or rather..it seems many talk about franchise player like he has to be one of the top players in the league.

Rebuilt OL? Yeah. In case you missed it, our LT is a stud and the LG is a former pro bowler. It's the BEST OL since our return in 99 by a LONG WAY!
The body of work is, DA is innacurate as hell, can't scramble or throw on the run.
He ran behind an OL that stayed healthy all year and a RB who put up over 1300 yards.
He has what? ONE WIN against a team that played above .500?
That's your "body of work". Because there was 11 guys that made that O work. And out of all of them, DA is the least "all around talented" at his position.
There's a big difference in "a perfect QB" and one who has so many holes in his games that the negatives outweigh the positives. And so far, that's exactly what we have in our "currently named starter".
But things change.

Putting all personal feelings aside,, and by now, you guys should know, I'm not going to pimp any QB.. I just wanna win..
But, a 10-5 record as the starter isn't shabby. I'll take that all the time.
After the last 8 years of Browns football the way we've seen it, this past year was a breath of fresh air...
I hope we improve on that this upcoming season.. Is DA the answer? Honestly, I don't know. I hope one of our two guys is..

Looks like Brady is working hard to make a run for the starting job. Maybe we can just keep rotating them every series. http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nflBrowns | Quinn working hard at improving Mon, 30 Jun 2008 07:50:00 -0700 John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn has greatly improved this offseason from a year ago. Quinn looks much more prepared and has thrown the ball well. He has also been putting in a lot of work in the film room. "I watch a ton of film," Quinn said. "I'll watch whatever we're doing over and over again. I'll watch myself mechanically. I'll watch Tom Brady and Peyton Manning and see what they do mechanically. That's the thing. You don't want to try to mimic them, but you want to see if there are things that they do that you can incorporate into your game. You are your own quarterback, and you work on what you like doing. You do what you are good at doing and then you evolve your game from there."

You keep bangin' the same dead drum... Beating the same dead horse... In case you missed the season in 2007... A lot of passes were completed by DA, throw by DA, a lot of TD passes thrown by DA and I watched DA help lead the Browns to a 10-5 record as a starter. That is a whole lot of good! No matter how blind you are or how you chose to look at the actual situation. O-Line comments... You are still preaching to the choir... How many guys on the 2007 0-Line were on the line, in the same position in 2006? Hum... Your body of work is actually much worse than DA's. You have never had as good a year here that DA had last year for the Browns. And I'm not on your butt near as much as you and some here are on DAs... Interesting that out of one side of your mouth you blame a player singley for beating only one team over 500... And the other side you say it takes 11 players players to make the 0 work...? Which side speaks the truth or spews the facts? Credability check... Anyone... DA is not solely responsible for only one win against teams above 500... Who are trying to kid man? Are you serious? GMAfrickenB... I really thought you were smarter/better than that... Yeah DA must be the least talented of the 11 on 0... He and two others made the Pro-Bowl. I believe, trust and agree with the poeple that chose DA for the PB more than I do you... Why? They clearly have more credablilty and are better judges of talent. Things do and can change... No matteer how well any other QB on the Browns roster does in camp or the p-season DA is the starter come opening day... Unless DA gets has a serious inury, picks up a DUI, or a coke problem, get arrested and thrown in jail it will take a miracle do unseat him... What organization in the history of the NFL has benched a 10-5, one game shy of the playoffs, (10-6 usually gets teams to the playoffs), a QB who went to the P-Bowl the previous year who helped lead his team to their best record since their return? When the GM and HC plainly say there is no competetion there usually is none... Read between the lines or bong hits all you want... It doens't change the facts as of now... Trent Dilfer won a SB with the Rats steering the ship... If DA or anyone, even you or EO can do the same, GREAT! I got yours... Get DA's back man... And get off his arse already... I'm out for the next 4 or 5 weeks... Late...

Here's the full article... Improved Quinn could result in an even better Anderson Even after four decades of covering the NFL, I have learned that I should never think I know everything. A case in point is making rash judgments about teams and players during minicamps. A year ago, because of the increasing importance of minicamps, I hit practices of the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns on back-to-back days. I watched Bills quarterback J.P. Losman and marveled as he resembled Kurt Warner in his St. Louis Rams heydey. I also watched three Browns quarterbacks resemble members of the "Bad News Bears" baseball team. Losman ended up losing his starting job, and Derek Anderson emerged from the Bad News Browns' minicamp to throw 29 touchdown passes and have a Pro Bowl season. Lesson learned? Accept minicamps for what they are, test laboratories for new schemes and new techniques, particularly when viewing offenses. I offer these thoughts in sizing up some of the young quarterbacks I've seen in minicamps this spring. Green Bay Packers rookie quarterback Brian Brohm is going through a tough learning curve. Young quarterbacks learning a new system think before they throw and temporarily lose their instincts. Bad days outnumber good days, so, other than there being no question strong-armed Aaron Rodgers won't be challenged for his starting job early, making longterm judgments would be foolish. That brings us to the subject of Brady Quinn, the Notre Dame quarterback who fell into the Browns' lap. With no games on the line in June, it's impossible to say how ready he is to be an NFL starter. But if work ethic means anything, Quinn is closer to Tom Brady than he is Jonathan Quinn. The self-proclaimed best prepared quarterback of the 2007 draft is an NFL workaholic, and his improvements on the field are noticeable. Quinn appears more authoritative running an offense, and steps into his throws with confidence and accuracy. More impressive is how he works after practice. Quinn will spend hours after a workout refining routes and practicing different throws to perfect his craft. The only downside to him is that Anderson will join him for some of those overtime sessions. Romeo Crennel must love it. Quinn's persistence in perfecting his craft is making Anderson a better quarterback. It's a win-win situation for the Browns. "I've stayed home since January," Quinn said. "Between working out, throwing and watching film, I'll spend five to six hours a day here and do the same every weekday. Every weekend I might go somewhere. Lots of guys head out after the season for time off, it being the offseason and all that. Guys want to get away and spend time with their families. I'm trying to get comfortable with the offense." As I stood on the side of the practice field watching one of Quinn's post-practice sessions, I took note of how he adjusted his release point on different passes to a receiver in the corner of the end zone. On some throws, his release point was technically sound, high and tight. On others, he was throwing a little more three-quarters in his delivery. He wasn't doing this by accident. "That's the thing you've got to do to find a window to throw," Quinn said. "Playing in the NFL, you are never going to be able to stand here and just throw the ball. A lot of times, you are going to be on the move and you are going to be off-balance. You'll be throwing the ball where you normally don't throw from your normal arm slot." A year ago at minicamp, Quinn was getting off his throws any way possible and they were going to places no one could guess. A year later, he's perfecting throws from different arm angles in case a defender is leaping to take away his normal release point. It's that type of preparation that will make him a good NFL quarterback. "I think Brady and Derek have taken big jumps from a year ago," Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "Compared statistically with their completion percentages from last year's OTAs [organized team activities], all three quarterbacks [Ken Dorsey included] are doing better. Both Brady and Derek are up in that high range of completions. They have a great grasp of the offense. They know what to expect. They know how they fit in.'' What's impressive about Quinn, though, is that he's now able to put into practice what he learned during his film study during those lonely, cold days in late January and February when he and cleaning people were the only ones left in the Browns headquarters. You do what you are good at doing and then you evolve your game from there." Anderson and Quinn are contrasts in style that work well together. Quinn is the perfectionist who is always working on his game. Anderson is the natural, a former sixth-round pick with a big arm who loves to fire the ball deep downfield. Anderson knows he can't give Quinn too much of a window to play, or Quinn eventually could beat him out. At some point, the organization must make a longterm decision on which quarterback is the franchise's future. The St. Louis Rams had to decide between Trent Green and Warner. The Kansas City Chiefs had to decide between Rich Gannon and Elvis Grbac. The Chargers had to decide between Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. Whenever Savage makes that call -- and it could be as late at 2010 -- the outgoing quarterback should bring big trade value. In the meantime, Cleveland, enjoy. Quinn should have an impressive exhibition season and that will push Anderson to being a better quarterback in 2008. A year ago, the Browns didn't know what they had behind center. Now, the Browns are loaded.

That's beautiful right there.
Finally, an article comes out that actually tells us what is going on in camps and practices, not just "Quinn threw a nice pass to Kasper down the sidelines. Dorsey had a pass sail high and hit the crossbar in the back of the endzone."
We all knew Quinn is a workaholic, and will do whatever it takes to prove himself. It's good to read what he's actually doing to help his chances. This just makes our team that much better. If Quinn outworks and outplays DA, then our chances to win improve. If Quinn works hard and improves, and DA joins in and grows along with him, our team will benefit by having DA playing better than he did in '07.
Like he said, it could be win-win.

very good article. This is one of the reasons that Wilson has improved so much. These two worked together a great deal last year and all during the season and have continued that relationship this off season.
I am one of the biggest DA supporters around and I never understand the love fest with Frye when DA just had so much more talent. DA has much more natural talent than Quinn.
What Quinn must show is true consistency. That will be his ticket into the starting position. He has the work ethic and he possesses that natural leadership ability. He doesnt have a great arm but he has a good arm. His game will be much more methodical, slowly working his way down field and spreading the ball around. He can be one of those quarterbacks that make opposing defenses pull their hair out.
DA love the guy but he is never going to be a consistent quarterback. He is a big play quarterback. The only way to beat out the excitement that the big play quarterback brings is with undeniable consistency.

Interesting that out of one side of your mouth you blame a player singley for beating only one team over 500... And the other side you say it takes 11 players players to make the 0 work...? Which side speaks the truth or spews the facts? Credability check... Anyone...
The credability factor lies in the fact you refuse to see just how many weaknesses there are in his overall abilities. But time will teach you better.
It's "the other ten guys" who created an environment that a very limited QB could excel in. Wait until the reality of injuries become "normal". Last year was just about as much of a "miracle" on the injury front as one can get.
Let's see, Tucker had played G before. So has Steinbach. JT is a natural (which I stated all through the pre-draft) at LT and Fraley is a C. So ALL OF THESE guys were playing in positions they had played before. It is what it is.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

There is an article about the Top 10 things noticed during the offseason over on the OBR (it's a free article because the site is free all weekend).
The guy said that it's still early, but there was "no real improvement in the short-passing game of Derek Anderson."
There better be improvement, because that's his biggest problem. He also said the same about Quinn's long-pasing game.
Not sure refs, do I link this? It's a free-article because the site is free for the holiday weekend, but then might be unavailable next week.

I also read the same article and was surprised to read this exact verbage.
I didn't know Quinn had a problem with the long passing game to begin with.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Pit, wrong again... I have since prior to day one of the DA acquisition, not been a big fan... I was one of the, if not the biggest opponent of the move... Based on what I personally watched live, on TV and on tech on DA... I’m still not completely sold... But he proved me wrong last year with his play. So I am behind him, because DA is our guy right now. He has earned that. Regardless of what anyone here says... So the credibility issue is on you man... His areas of concern are still there... He has improved them, but they still need work and probably always will... His positive areas have improved too... They need to be polished too... DA has been missing the short ball and touch passes for longer than many of you have known he was alive... He has never thrown on the run well... He has always forced the ball and thrown too many picks, made questionable decisions and locked on to his WR's... He has always won... He has always made big plays... He has always thrown the medium and deep routes well. He has always fit the ball where few others would try... He has always made decisions with his head and sometimes even with his arm... He has always been a respected team leader with solid work ethic...He has carried teams and at times failed, miserably... He has always let it roll and come back.... He has been a good citizen and good man... DA has earned more respect than he is given here... PERIOD. If something where to happen and DA was done as the Browns QB right now it would be a shame. It would be interesting to see what that would be like here...? I have a feeling it would be ing for some here… The BS DA gets here and else where with the likes of you and others is astounding... When you look at what he did in his first year as the starter, it’s amazing we are where we are on this topic... Some have no clue, expect perfection, and don't know how far away from perfection they are themselves... Yet they still keep throwing stones... The 0-Line comments... The Browns have signed or drafted flexible linemend over the past 3 years... This shouldn't surprise you... Who were the 2006 starting 0-Linemen? Who were the starting 2007 0-Linemen? How many new additions or changes were there? See what I was getting at...

You've been steadfast in your opinion for quite sometime...a little too steadfast given the body of work is 15 games. I'm sorry, I forgot the Pro Bowl...16.

Yeah, neither did I. We obviously knew about the previous, meaning Anderson's struggles in the short game.

How have they improved? The season hasn't even started, let alone training camp.
