The idea of two return threats on the field makes sense on paper.

I agree...I have always favored that.

I especially like it on punts.

First, I like the idea of a blocker in front of the guy catching the punt. I think you can spring a few more by getting pads on the first guy down.

It also can play in to your hands on punt blocks.

If teams are going to kick away from Cribbs(one would assume), you can line him up to the most favorable side for us....make them punt to the short side of the field rather then the wide...punt more towards the wind...whatever you want.

That also lets you know which side to rush if that is the plan.

Just line one up on each hash, or switch it up and line one up 10 yards in front of the other guy. While the back guy is looking to catch the punt, the front player can yell out left or right...whichever he reads as the best way to go upon catching the ball.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I agree completely. You see teams having two guys back there quite often in college, but for some reason you rarely see it in the NFL.

Proof that the Travis Wilson hype might be a bit more guarded. A good depth move, Parker is an underrated WR/PR.
It says a lot..to add another WR means that either they feel JJ might have a longer road back and/or Wilson hype is just to get his confidence up..
Plus Hubbard is still here..soooooo ...
It tells me they still aren't elated with his progress.

Just clickin

If we can get him cheap then i'm all for it. Wilson hasn't shown us anything and i'm not that high on Hubbard so we could use some quality depth at WR plus Parker could back up Cribbs at returner.

I don't care who wins us games. I am willing to do it without Winslow if needs be such. Seeing more Cribbs and more ugly flat out speed will help us. I think we should be able to flood and smother with Chud's book. This would help us overall.

Here's an update since the thread is now back up top:

• Count me as one of the league observers surprised by the reported trade interest in Chargers' WR Eric Parker. Although the seven-year veteran has logged 40 career starts, he missed all of 2007 with a toe injury and has never completed a full season without missing a game due to injury. Plus, he has never been an impressive starter when in the lineup and his three career receptions over 40 yards are considerably low for a player regarded as a "speed" receiver. Thus, I'm miffed that a team would consider adding Parker to their lineup at his current salary ($1,850,000). While some would argue that Parker brings added value as a returner, he has never distinguished himself as a top flight returner (8.4 yard career punt return avg.), and he lacks the juice to boost a sagging return unit. As a receiver, Parker is ideally suited to be a fourth or fifth receiver, but his lack of size makes him a liability on special teams. Therefore, a team interested in acquiring Parker likely has a specific plan for getting him on the field or desperately needs to add a reliable veteran to a young receiving corps. Regardless, it seems unlikely that Parker will be dealt via trade, so expect the veteran to latch onto a team after the Chargers eventually release him prior to training camp.

I'm sure Phil will look at WR's that get cut , which may be less expensive.
