I'll admit I'm being a bit of a doom and gloomer ... I'm just so taken aback that our soon to be Top 5, maybe Top 3 WR in the league gets hurt in a foot race in his socks. It's so unbelievable, it makes you want to laugh and cry all at the same time.

Reminds me of Chevy Chase in European Vacation when he's in the roundabout and can't get out ... after awhile it just becomes funny. I mean couldn't this have happened to the #4 or $5 guy. Of course not, it's Cleveland baby. Let's take out the #1.

I agree with many of you that what bothers me the most is his seemingly irresponsible behavior. He's our no. 1 guy and he's horsing around.

However, I'm guessing this kind of stuff happens all the time (guys fooling around). Just so happens that this time, a guy got hurt doing it.

Hopefully this will humble him a bit and he'll come back 100% and hungry.

He probably said to Stallworth, "I could beat you in a race without my shoes!" Then he was probably asked to prove it. I think it's great that the guys are getting along like that. Was it a dumb thing to do? Maybe...they could have at least been a yard apart, but Stallworth was probably trying to draft and got too close.

As long as he's really okay, I don't have issue with this at all. He'll heal and move forward. And, I bet he wears his shoes from now on.

J/C....

I can't wait for this week. Knowing the Cleveland Media we'll learn more about this injury. I'm another doom and gloom guy, so until I see 17 running down the sideline burning DB's like he has been doing, then I believe the injury is more than a cut.....

Last time I checked, people with cuts get stitches and they are treated and released. They don't stay overnight. The pic on the Plain Dealer website looks fairly bloody. On top of that, his heel towards his achilles was what was cut. A lot more damange can be done in that area aside a simple cut.

Donte must have planted the entire bottom side of his cleats on Braylon's heel and then drove it into the ground to require stiches. These cleats are plastic, not metal.

On top of that, I can't imagine it would cause a cut, I'm thinking more of a gouge. Let's see if Braylon is on crutches, that will be more of an indication of the injury.

Man, there sure are a lot of you on here.

Even if he is on crutches, it doesn't mean anything. He could be overcautious, walk on crutches as to not open it back up for the week, and let it heal up.

If it's just a cut/gash, he'll be fine. Next post will talk about amputating his foot I bet.

I won't disagree with you on that. We've had some crappy luck and some pretty rare happenings that weren't just related to injuries.

But I think some of this is getting blown out of proportion. Crennel said the injury wasn't serious, he'd be getting released today. Crennel isn't one to say, well this guy has this problem, we'll see him back in 5 days. That just isn't how he goes about it. I think because people didn't hear him say when he'd return, they freak out. I personally as a nurse found it odd to stay overnight, but if they thought he'd benefit from IV antibiotics a night, they'd keep him due to the recent staph problems. It's not typical to stay for something like that, but nothing wrong with being overcautious. The average person may have left with an perscription of Keflex (antibiotic), where Braylon probably stayed for 2 or 3 doses of Vanc or Ancef. (yeah, you can tell I'm a nurse )

Some of you are just unbelievable! Give it a rest.

First- BE is SO irresponsible for having a little fun and building some comradery and competition with Stallworth... WTF? If he didn't do this THEN he wouldn't be a team player and would be a prima-donna... These guys get ridiculed for WHAT EVER they do.

Second- This guy is a warrior... he's not going down over a cut... LOL If he had an amputation he would just hop down the field, leap 16 feet in the air and make miraculous catches on balls thrown 6 feet behind him and 5 feet too high!

BOTTOM LINE: He'll be here when we need him. Stallworth and him are bonding. Josh Cribbs(although I agree that a dirty shirt is not so great) once again proved to be an A1 teamate by coming to the rescue. Sounds to me like the kind of guys I would want to have my back if I were going to war.

This thread is a great source of humor.

Thank you to all of you crazy doom and gloomers. The way you react to this is awesome, you would have thought that someone took Braylon's foot clean off.

The man gets cut on his heel, gets stitches, and all of a sudden he is out for the year? LMAO, awesome.

this sucks. I hope it is a relatively clean cut and not some sort of degloving injury that will take substantially longer than 2-3 weeks to heal.

And the way the preseason games are scheduled (18th, 23rd and 28th)- i would sit him the rest of the preseason and let the skin mature. Get ready for Dallas.

"Good observation, Michelle. We had a player with a cut simlar that was close to the Achilles and he was kept overnight, too. They wanted to make sure there was no damage at all to the Achilles."

When reading about the heel, gash, stitches - my only fear really is regarding the Achilles Tendon.

In a little annual coaches pick-up game...somebody brought their 270 son from college ball to play. Cause of my heart they stuck me on the DL to play pat-a-cake with a doctor. This kid playing LB charged in on a Play action fake and took a hard step to bounce back into coverage...unfortunately on the back of my heel.

Complete Achilles Tendon Rupture...so it was the first thing I feared hearing of the words Step on, Gash, Heel. Prayers out for a quick and healthy 100% recovery!

Actually, I've never been mad that he was horsing around or running in his socks. I think some people took it that I was in that crowd, but I never was.

I'm more in the 'feel sorry for yourself' and 'can't help but laugh' crowd. I don't fault him for goofing off and having some fun. Probably happens every day in some form or fashion in all or most training camps. It's just so damn ironic that when we do it, our star player gets hurt. Not just that an injury occurred, but that it happened to the guy we can least afford it to happen to (well, actually JT is that guy, but BE is up there).

It's like the Cleveland Browns are a walking, talking Murphy's Law. That's the crowd I'm in.

So, if we lose Braylon, we'd be worse than teams like Atlanta?

And I like Beanie, but I'm not picking him up with the #1 pick of the draft.

OMG! Stieny has a hang nail! Just our miserable luck... We might as well move this team to LA, wait 5 years for a new expansion team and start all over!

When was the last time LA had a Super Bowl anyway. With our luck that's the only way we'll win one... like the ravens did.

THERE now thats a new twist on a TWISTED THREAD! nuts

Not to continue the doom and gloom, but I read on a paysite - one that I'm sure many others subscribe to - that it's not as minor as they are making it out to be but still not very serious - at this time. Wish I could put up the link.

We aren't out of the woods yet, but the chance of it being more serious is probably small.

Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel not worried about receiver Braylon Edwards' foot wound
Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Tony GrossiPlain Dealer Reporter

Pro Bowl receiver Braylon Edwards remained away from his teammates Monday after spending Saturday night in the Cleveland Clinic and needing stitches to close a wound on his right heel.

Coach Romeo Crennel said he did not know how many stitches Edwards received. He discounted the injury from having a big impact on Edwards.

"I'm not worried that he won't be back," Crennel said. "They checked him out at the hospital so that they could investigate if there was anything more than a cut, but it's nothing more than a cut.

"It really doesn't make any difference how many [stitches Edwards needed]. He's going to be back. That's what I'm going on."

The injury occurred when receiver Donte' Stallworth accidentally stepped on Edwards' foot as the two players jockeyed playfully while running at the end of Saturday's practice. Edwards was not wearing shoes.

"Kids are kids," Crennel said. "You look at kids, they take their shoes off and run around all the time. Maybe his feet were hurting that day. We'll educate him a little bit more and tell him about keeping his shoes on till he gets inside. We don't like things to happen, but they happen. What can you do other than try to educate them?"

Quarterback Derek Anderson said Edwards is "obviously disappointed he'll be home for a little bit." Upon Edwards' return, Anderson said he would work after practice with Edwards to re-establish their chemistry.

Edwards will miss Monday's second preseason game against the New York Giants and possibly the third game against Detroit.

Crennel said he would be unconcerned if Edwards doesn't play again in the exhibition season.

"That's not a concern because he's proven he's a player, he's a Pro Bowl player, and I know that he'll work to get back," Crennel said.

Backup quarterback Brady Quinn opined, "I don't think he'll miss a step at all."

From the end of the article, which talked mostly about Cribbs' TD pass to Wilson....

....EXTRA POINTS

• Braylon Edwards will miss Monday's game and probably next Saturday's game vs. the Lions with a lacerated foot. Crennel said 2006 Round 3 draft pick Travis Wilson has a slight edge over 2007 undrafted free agent Steve Sanders to start in place of Edwards. "It's close," Crennel said. "Both are very competitive young men."

No worries here...that is like a million dollar wound...nothing serious that keeps him out of unnecessary danger.

Edwards isn't going to suffer from the lost time.

Might be a blessing in disguise for Edwards and our young guys. I'm starting to get a little excited about Wilson and Sanders.

We appear to be building an organization that can grow it's own talent. We will be a force for years if that is true - injuries be damned. We'll just keep plugging 'em in and keep on moving.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing Wilson play Monday night. I think Sanders has the edge over Steptoe as a WR, but because of Steptoe's return skills, he may have the edge....

But remember Chris Barclay last year? He was a great return man as well, and he was still cut. I'd love to see a local boy and UDFA pick up make the team and contribute. Hopefully Sanders continues to play well. We could have very scary depth at WR if these guys continue to play well AND J.J. returns.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Brandon McDonald fairly capable of handling return duties as well? Because if it comes down to an either/or with Steptoe and Sanders, I just can't see Syndric getting the nod simply because of his return abilities. I think Steve Sanders has a bit more experience, as well as physical gifts (most notably a 6 inch height advantage) that will give him the advantage.

I see our WR corps shaping up like so, barring injury:

Braylon
Donte
Wilson
Cribbs
Sanders
Kasper if we want to add a 6th.

Hubbard and Steptoe on the PS. Yes, Hubbard could be claimed by another team, but I think he's too raw a player at this point to where only a team that's in very good shape with their WRs might consider grabbing him. Most teams wouldn't want to take on a project like that in mid-season and use up a roster spot. Remember that if a player is claimed from a practice squad he has to be put on that team's 53-man roster.

Unfortunately I don't see JJ coming back this year, especially if we are playing well, winning games, and our QB is showing good chemistry with the wideouts. Depending on his health and how the season shakes out, I could see JJ working out an extension to play for one more next season if we do well, or simply retiring in the orange and brown at the end of the year if we regress. I think he'll go on the IR after his PUP stint is up.
