I agree, it should have been done at the time.

Many of those in dash detection units have a recorder and someone must have audited the record and noted there wasn't a citation given anywhere close to the recorded speed and time, and people started asking questions..

It isn't unusual for cops to drop off some of the speed when writing it up, but usually not more than maybe 10-15mph.

Aren't there any laws in Ohio that warrant an arrest at excessive speeds?

In Hawaii there is a mandatory arrest for speed in excess of 80 mph. Max jail sentence of 5 days, $500 - $1000 fine and mandatory license suspension for first time offenders. Stiffer penalties exist for repeat offenders.

If you go that fast it turns from a simple speeding ticket to reckless operation which can carry with it jail time.

Total bad career move on the part of the police officer. I don't care who you are but if your speeding almost 70 miles per hour over the speed limit you need to do something about it.
The officer had to radio dispatch to run the plates and say why he was out with that car. Chances are rumors surfaced and the ticket was issued now after they looked into it.
The article doesn't say, but I can almost guarantee this didn't happen during rush hour or anything. most likely sometime in the wee hours of the morning with no traffic. Thats still no excuse for driving like that or for the officer to let him off, but that and him being Bray Bray could have been the deciding factor on why he was let go b/c of not a huge risk of hurting anyone else on the road. Thats totally wrong and you better bet your sweet ass if it was one of us we would be paying a stiff fine or sitting in the clink

I don't know. I was going to say in Tennessee, if you were going 55 over the limit, there would be a lot more involved than just mailing in your fine.

I guess it boils down to officer discretion since a woman was puking all over the guys car and Edwards didn't seem impaired.

I think I would have been going 0 mph and had the gal on her hands and knees on the side of the road puking in to a ditch....but that's just me.

Purses work too.

More to the story..........

Edwards talks tickets

The Avon Police Department has issued Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards a speeding ticket — for going 120 mph in a 65 mph zone — almost two weeks after the fact.

Police said they clocked Edwards as he was traveling west on Interstate 90 near Chester Road on Aug. 29.

After the officer saw that Edwards' passenger was visibly ill and because of his cooperation with the officer, Edwards received a verbal warning and was allowed to go. After a television station brought the incident to Chief Paul T. Romond's attention, a citation was issued Thursday, and a reprimand was placed in the officer's file.

''This incident was brought to the attention of my office on Sept. 11. After a review of the circumstances and speaking with the officer involved, it was determined that the appropriate course of action was to issue a citation,'' Romond said. ''Mr. Edwards came to the Avon Police Department and received a copy of his traffic citation.''

Edwards downplayed the incident.

''All it was was a speeding ticket. I'm not the first person to get a speeding ticket,'' he said. ''The officer let me off for good behavior and that was the situation.

''And because of Channel 19, it got brought back, resurfaced, and there it was. I got a ticket.''

Yep this is Carl Modays fault. LMAO

Braylon screwed up and has to pay the price, so what, but blaming this on someone else is just plain idiotic.

I just noticed who I was replying too, nix my comments because someone just needs attention again, so I can't take the comments seriously since the source of the comments is obviously questionable.

I'll move on.

IMO, I just find it ridiculous that the officer originally let the guy off, until some reporter makes a big enough deal about it to get him a ticket after the fact.

I think anyone on this board would be salty if it happened to them---

I was popped for doing 120 in a 55 when i was home for leave from the US Navy as a kid. The State Trooper that pulled me over did 20 years in the Navy and did not want to cite me. He read me the riot act then handed my license back and said "Merry Christmas" (it was October).

My excuse - I was at a bar that closed at 1AM. A girl had invited me to a party and I told her I would follow her there. As I was leaving the parking lot someone else stopped me to say hi. I was trying to catch up to her.

This was 25 years ago. I was stupid, young and half way drunk. No excuse in the world for driving that fast...

On reflection I think the Trooper 1) Didn't want to ruin my leave. 2) Didn't want to do the paperwork. Maybe this cop didn't want to cause a problem for BE... maybe he was a fan. That's no reason but it could be why.

What I find interesting is that since the Browns and Channel 19 WOIO had a beef two summers ago over the reporting of the death of Randy Lerners neice, the station has done a lot of reporting designed to embarass the Randy, the Browns FO, Players or Coachs..

I remember that after it was discovered that some of the contractors that worked on various parts of the stadium weren't paid that the station went after the Browns for not paying it... the problem was, it was the Browns obligation.. it was the Citys.. but the station forgot to mention that part..

But this issue is real and they were correct (IMO) to bring it to the attention of the Chief as they did..
