Now I can't speak for Brady Quinn, but trying to put myself in his shoes, my prayer at that moment would have gone something like this. "Lord, you blessed me with the size and speed and strength, I've put in the work, and this is what it was all for... Please give me the calmness and the clarity to do my best and to glorify you in victory or defeat. Amen"
I was thinking more along the lines of, "Please help Braylon catch this ball!! Please help Braylon catch this ball!! Please help Braylon catch this ball!!"

Really? If BQ believes in God, as he obviously does, you don't think he believes God gave him the talent to perform well? It isn't possilbe that he's acknowledging that and giving thanks to God? Why is it stupid to recognize God for giving you the physical tools to be successful? God may not care if BQ throws a TD, but I'm sure He is pleased that He is given thanks for what a person has been blessed with to be able to score a TD.

Very well said Coach!
And those who watch NASCAR see this quite fequently. There is always a paryer before the race. It doesn't even mention anyone winning. It's a prayer that God will look over things and ask that nobody get injurred. And that all of those who attend get home safely.
I'd say there are some similarities there. Many times when I was in sports, the prayers were very much like what I've seen posted..................
"God grant us the strength to think, execute and play to the best of our abilities. And please look over those playing tonight that they are not hurt during the course of our play. And that everyone attending the game tonight get home safely. We ask this in Jesust Christ's name, amen."
That's paraphrasing but VERY close. Lord knows I heard that one enough to remember.
I really do feel like life is a two way street. If people quit trying to second guess the faith or intent of others or question those who pray in public?
In turn, we won't do those same things to people who don't pray in public.

And we always had one after the game as well.
For a win: We asked that he grant us the wisdom to be humble in victory. Because through vanity, we will lose focus in how to move forward. We thanked him for granting us the ability and strength to be victorious. For without that gift it would not be possible.
For a loss; We asked that he permit us the wisdom to not be too disapointed. That through self pity and doubt, we will never learn from our mistakes and move forward. That we understood that humility is a part of life. And grant us the strength to learn from our mistakes so we can be better in the future.
I do feel these prayers were very good for morale and to help the team members to be able to keep things in perspective.

I can let my hair keep growing until spring time without getting it cut. It would be enough for a nice "rug" for both you and GM. And since you both seem to be pretty nice guys, I'll donate the hair for free!

It is kind of funny, that some people look funny at folks that pray in public, say grace in a restaurant, etc. Yet, I don't ever recall seeing anyone walk up to a table and say "Aren't you all going to ask the Lord to bless your food before you eat it?"
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Me? I'm giving thanks to my own Gods, Phil Dawson and the O line.
Interestingly enough, I've found that prayers made to Phil Dawson are answered with a higher frequency than prayers made to a space god.

Depends on your concept of prayer. If the concept is pray to the kind, white bearded man sitting on a throne in heaven to grant your wishes, then yeah, it might not work. If your concept is positive thoughts manifest positive results, or we manifest what we think and say, then what can it hurt? In fact, it might help. And possibly did. Who are we to say? And why would anyone dis a man on his motive for or method of prayer? I'll pray for you.

I know. It's easier to belittle something we can't understand than it is to have faith.

Great response Peen....
I've been an athlete all my life and once I was saved began praying before each athletic contest from the weekday meets to the State Championships, and Nationals... I always prayed for teh same thing... that I would do my best, I would honor God with my abilities, and that I would stay safe and injury free along with my competitors.
I don't think that God cares if we win or lose... but he does care how we respond to those situations and that we honor him either way...
I have no idea what Brady was 'praying' or who it was to... that's between him and whoever he was talking to...

Some people in this world actually pray to an elephant/human hybrid with multiple limbs. Though you wouldn't say it to someone who believed it, you think that's stupid.
I think the message of most organized religions is right, but I think a lot of the beliefs and superstitions of these faiths are stupid. I have no problem telling someone I think their faith is stupid. I've had it done to me the majority of my life, and I think it's only strengthened my beliefs.
Even outside of religious beliefs...when people belittle me for my fervent love of the Browns, I chuckle along because I know in the end that what they say holds truth.
And for the record...I'd bet if you crunched the numbers, praying to the multi-armed elephant god or Phil Dawson produces the same results as praying to a carpenter who died 2,000 years ago.

Thanks. I wish you the best. I won't even go down to your level. At least we (those of us that believe in Christ) all know what you think of us.

Phil's a good guy, and I respect him. We just don't agree when it comes to faith. He can pray to a eight headed monkey for me, and I'll pray to God for him. It's all good

Why can't everyone just be happy believing what they do and let others do the same without saying they are wrong, or jealous, or stupid, or whatever? I hate religious threads around here.
Quite honestly, in all the years hanging out on this board, all I see are a bunch of hypocrites...and that's just plain sad.
