Random question that just hit me... Has anyone heard of Eric speaking to the team yet?
Just curious, because this media day and individual interviews with local personalities is great and all... But I'm curious to hear about him addressing the team and the reaction from the team itself.
Would be rather hard to assemble the team for a meeting at this point. After the final game, lockers are cleaned out and players head too different parts of the country for the off-season. The only important meetings to get to right away is to assemble his coaching staff and make the decisions on WHICH players will be invited to that first meeting and which ones will not.

Eric will probebly most of the players, talk to those who stop in, but will probebly wait until March camps,. Keep in mind after the season players leave and are speard out over all parts of the country and it's a waste for them to fly in for a one day new confrence.
Once Mangini gets his cordinators in place I'm sure the QB's will be brought in along with others, in the union contract I think new coaching staffs are aotted a few extra days to implemnt things but really thier controled what functions they can do somewhat.

However, you would think a good number would be around for something as important as this. I know if I was getting a new boss, I'd want to meet him.
and I'm sure a lot of them are around or coming back to meet Mangini.
Some may be on family type vacations so perhaps they'll return to cleveland in short order.
In either case, I'm guessing that all will be in within a week or so to meet up with the new boss.

I have a feeling that RL will be hiring two guys....
One will be a "GM"...the other will be a "President of xyz" guy.
Both the coach and the GM will report to the President of xyz. The President will report to Lerner.
With all the "working side-by-side" talk, it lends itself to a different arrangement where the coach and GM are co-workers and not supervisor to employee.
Just a thought.

I don;t know if anyone else found this odd ..... in a twilight zone kind of way ..... but after all of the emphasis Lerner out on finding a guy with head coaching experience ..... and the stats that say that a guy does better his 2nd tiem around ........ the 4 remaining teams in the playoffs all have head coaches who had never been head coaches before their current jobs. Hopefully that's a trend that stops right now.

Oddly enough, one is a rookie HC, two are fairly new HC's, and Reid has been their a while. So really, they are all completely new to being a head coach.
Just goes to show you, you're either a good coach or not. Thankfully, I think Mangini is a good coach.
you had a good run Hank.

Wow, that's really strange.I guess the formula would have been to keep the coordinators and find a first year head coach.

Whiz is the only one who really "started from scratch" in creating a philosophy as a team, and he was in one of the weakest divisions in football this year.
Tomlin inherited a great defensive coordinator and winning philosophy...he's yet to put his thumbprint on the organization. That won't happen until LeBeau retires. I think Tomlin's smart enough to realize not to mess with success until it's time.
Ditto with Harbaugh. He was smart enough to hire Cam Cameron and retain Rex Ryan.
If Rex leaves, who knows what they'll do moving forward? Would they shift to a 4-3? I don't know.
Tomlin and Harbaugh still haven't put their thumbprint on their organizations yet. We'll see the results when players and coaches from the Cowher/Billick era retire or leave.

Just goes to show that if you're gonna have a rookie head coach and/or a rookie QB, you need veteran coordinators and players on both sides of the ball to be successful. We haven't had that.

Or they are extremely lucky. At least in the case of Harbaugh and Tomlin..
They got there and thier teams were pretty well organized with good solid players and systems in place that work. Same with Tomlin.
The Zona guys,,, they had a mess to deal with .. some very talented players, but a mess.. Ried built his and deserves all the credit also.

Tomlin inherited a great team with some retained assistants when Cowher retired. He didn't step in where the HC was fired and they all started from scratch. Reid has been the head coach for quite some time. Whisenhunt is in his first stint, as well as Harbaugh. But remember, Baltimore has always had a stout defense, and were a great team 2 years ago. After a poor 2007 season, he helped turned them back around.

Well Reid went through his growing pains without getting fired - so although the Eagles were his first stint...he's been there a while.
Ravens n Steelers...well they inherited pretty good teams so I wouldn't read too much into those hires. They both seem like solid coaches but they weren't bring their team out of the depths of anything. Ravens are relatively healthy this year and lets face it. They finally got a QB, Flacco is the real deal without him they wouldn't be in the playoffs. They got some interesting breaks along the way on this run as it is.
The guy I'm impressed with and I have a little "HE GOT AWAY" feeling is Wisenhunt. I think he did a fantastic job out there. And he took over a franchise that couldn't win a Pillow fight! Is playing a supposed Wash up QB over the Franchise guy...took guts to do that.

Real good take,...Whiz has probably done the most with what was the least (i.e. "pillow fighters" ). Hopefully EM has that same "it."
