What is your problem....i mention that i read it on another site and that it's 007 stuff because if you looked it was from Florie so it was heresay....And if you have no idea who i am and if you did you would know i don't present myself that way....So whatever your problem is keep it to yourself.

Ok then, I guess i took it the wrong way. That being the case, i apologize...

I thought it was an interesting take on it...even if it was from PFT.

I guess thats why i felt compelled to stick up for it....if you meant no harm, than neither did i.

No problem Rik...I come here for info and sometimes to just to share things with the people on this board....I have made it a point to try and stay out of QB debates and some of the other heated threads because it's just not worth getting worked up about.....But that won't stop me from taking a fun natured shot at someone.....anyways i really think this is the best board. Ya gotta learn some of these guys do really know there stuff...Just give them a chance...

I will agree this is the best board for info....I've been coming here for awhile....

I'm just ready for Kokinis to sign, and this off season to get rolling. I don't believe we're as far off as some seem to think.

I'm not worried about Koke not being named yet ... I also don't agree with tabber that they wanted to let him take his vaca first ... what the hell's the difference in weather he takes his vaca before ar after we hire him ... it appears hes gonna start the same day anyhow ..

the thing I want to point out is everyone just sluffing things like TJ getting fired and the fact Coke ain't here yet ... it is a BIG DEAL .... is it the end of the world doom and gloom .. not even close .. but it i salso not as easy as just passing on files ...

THIS PUTS UP BEHIND THE 8 BALL no matter what the clueless homers wanna sell ... and it puts us behind in many ways ... and in no particular order ....

1. Jeannie and Coke need to learn our team ...

2. Coke has to hire his folks .... including the COLLEGE GUYS ... at every level ...

3. after LEARNING our current players Jeannie needs to let know qualities he needs in certain positions and what hes looking for .. THEN Coke needs to start getting that info to both the pro and college guys so they can search for these guys ...

4. Coke and HIS GUYS need to decipher through all the college stuff .. Coke has a pretty good handle on the pro guys since its what he did in Ratville ... but the college stuff ... WERE WAY BEHIND .. and i mean WAY BEHIND ...

its not the end of the world .. but we are WAY BEHIND FOR THIS YEAR ... next year we will be MILES AHEAD OF THE GAME compared to this year ...

to compare it to simply passing files is just way under estimating what is actually going on here ... WERE WELL BEHIND THE 8 BALL GOING INTO THIS DRAFT AND FA PERIOD .....

I hate to dissapoint U all .. but it is true .. and every day that goes by without the TOP PEOPLE IN PLACE at these respective positions .. the FURTHER BEHIND WE GET ...

theres alot that goes into this .. ALOT MORE THAN SOME ON HERE WANT TO FESS UP TO ..

and i am not blaeming anyone or crying Wolff here .. this will put us behind for this year ... but hopefully it means we will be stronger in years to come ... that makes it worth it to me ... but I won't bury my head in the sand and act like this is no big deal ...

I agree partly with Diam......We might be behind as we speak....but where i dissagree is as we go into the next few weeks and when it comes time for the draft and FA...we will be as up to speed as anyone.

I do understand what you are saying....everyday your team isn't together is a day lost...there is no denying that.....I just don't think it will make that big a difference.

Let's put it this way...I don't think we are going to blow picks because we missed a couple of weeks without the office in place.

The draft is 3 months away. The FA period starts pretty soon, which is important.....but these guys aren't totally ignorant of our team, and who is a player and who might not be that great, and who might be a FA worth looking in to if they finally become free.

As long as we get something done fairly soon.....maybe 2-3-4, even 5 days , I don't think we are missing out on much. Now, if we are still looking around in a week or two, that's another story.

I don't think we are at the point we can't make up the time.

Yep they know our current team, but until they all sit down and get a clear map of where they want to go from here (we aren't standing nearly as pat as the homers want you to believe, and the turnover could be huge), the we know jack crap about this team..........and how we want to approach FA and the draft. Oh and the draft might be 3 months away, but the pre draft festivities are well on their way, and we are behind.

I sometimes wonder how you guys forget how the last 2 FOs offseasons were both fairly unproductive (even by their standards..lol) when they took over on the fly like this. I don't think it's a huge deal if we hurry up and get it done, but the sooner the better.

Thats one of the phallacies Willie .. they DON'T know our current team ... do they have info on them and do they know them ... sure .. but they don't "know" them ...

When your scouting a player/team to play against them it is a good thing .. but its not the same as when your looking at them and wondering how he fits into what u want to do ...

its a subtle difference ... but its HUGE ... does Jeannie see sumptin in Wimbley that he thinks he can maybe make a slight adjustment and turn him into a better pass rusher .. thats just one example ..

the bottom line is Willie .. our NEW GUYS have to spend time EVALUATING our current players that other staffs do not have to spend ... we have a list with 8 - 10 more things on it and alot of them are VERY TIME CONSUMING ... and Coke needs to get to know Jeannie and how they work .. Coke and Jeannie have to get to know the draft guys and the scouts ... and vice versa ... FAMILIARITY IS HUGE ...

Peenie ... like i said it is not the end of the day .. but it is alot more complicated than U want to lead the dolts to believe ..

and it could lead to blown picks .. not in the first two rounds .. but after that .. in rnds 3 - 7 and un drafted FA's it sure as all hell very wel could .. the more time U spend looking at film or maybe going to a kids work out or talking to a coach of a kid U may not know alot about the better chance of learning sumptin that could be important ..

this staff is starting from a blank page in ALOT OF AREAS ... from knowing our players .. to knowing what the coaches want .. to knowing what to look for .. and the list goes on and on ...

its not the end of the world .. BUT IT IS VERY VERY BIG ...

and Peenie .. U know U can not get time back .. the time I took to typoe this out is time I can never get back ... its not like U can make it up ...

ITS BIG ... not end of the world big .. and evey day it puts us a little bit more behind ..

I do agree that we're behind. While scouting is going on, the fact that we don't have a personnel director/GM, it puts us behind.

Maybe we'll have a better time closing our eyes and picking players instead of studying them, picking them, and watching them fail.

LOL....come on man....after all this time you should know I am not overly concerned with what other people think.

I agree.....it isn't simple, and agree, it could lead to some disconnect.....all am saying is it doesn't have to lead to that...... it isn't really that complicated....if in doubt, just draft a SEC player

JK before you go to far with that.

But come on....you know darn good and well a big, big part of it is pure luck. You can study all you want and still get it wrong.

That is why you end up with players like Cribbs who go undrafted and guys like Couch drafted #1 overall.

We're behind, no doubt. But all these guys that Koke is bringing in have been scouting free agents and draft picks just like everyone else. The only way that we are behind is with how well they know our team. I honestly don't think it will be that incredibly hard for them to determine what we need.

The draft is still 3 months away and like you said, Koke is up on the free agent aspect. We're behind, but I'm not overly worried as long as Koke can get his staff in place reasonably soon.

Just clicking

OK,,

If Koks is still with the Ravens, then he's still working.. what's he working on? Maybe the exact same things he'd be working on here if it was a done deal and he were already on our staff.

If he's not still working for the Ravens, then just cause it's not been announced, doesn't mean he's not already working for us...

If it's true that he's coming here and it's just a matter of time for the announcement, Would his mind not already be on what's needed and what we have already. I mean, he reportedly spent two days here last week with the HC, DC and OC and possiblly other staffers as well.

So how far behnd is he really. (If he doesn't come here, then yeah, I really see how far we could be behind)

The scouts that remain are still doing thier jobs just as they would had nothing changed. We reportedly have folks at the Senior bowl like any other year. Not sure if Mangini went there or not last week. Didn't hear it reported.

So tell me again, how are we so behind that we should worry?

Why?? So u can make stuff up again so u can feel better?? .. *L* ..

the combo of your lack of knowledge about what must truely be done and the fact U want to believe we are not behind give U no shot of getting it ...

Deep .. U can lead a horse to water but U can't make them drink it ... I've taken U all to the water .. now I have no control over weather U drink it or not ... thats up to U ...

its easier to believe that this is not putting us behind ...

what do U think the other teams not located in Pitt and Zona are doing right now???? .. the same things we should be doing right now with the PROPER TEAMS IN PLACE .... but hey ... were not behind ... that makes U all feel better ...

Hey, I'm not denying that we're behind. We are, no doubt about it. I just disagree with HOW far behind we are. Koke and his team are working on this stuff. It is true. Mangini and Koke have probably been working on our plan all week.

Does it hurt us that we don't already have a staff in place? You bet it does. But Koke is prepared for free agency. He has evaluated all the players that will be on the market. The people that he is going to bring in as his staff are doing the same thing along with preparing for the draft, which is 3 months away.

If we don't have the beginning of a staff in place by the end of next week, I'll be with you saying we're in trouble come free agency. But as of now, I still think we have time to evaluate our team weaknesses. Cause in reality, that's all we have to do. Everyone we bring in is already well under way scouting free agents and players in the draft. Now they just have to form that information to fit the Browns' needs.

what team??? .. wait before we adress his team ... HES NOT EVEN HIRED YET ...

now back to the team .. WHAT TEAM?? ... we have no one heading up the draft team (do we even have scouts in place as of now?? ... I'm sure we do .. but who are they reporting to as of now?? Randy ..

we do not have a TEAM right now .. we don't even have Coke yet ..

Yet U and everyone else says there working now .. can U say DENIAL ... *L* ..

U see thats where U and everyon else is wrong ... hes been tracking and doing INITIAL EVALS on this years FA class .. but no way has he or any other GM done there in depth stuff yet .... and thats just the ones we know of ... now theres the ones who we suspect may get whacked due to cap #'s and ALL THE NEW COACHING CHANGES and 3 or 4 other criteria ...

but there is no way in hell any of these guys have all there evals done on this years FA class ... NOT A CHANCE IN HELL ...

U guys are way underestimating the amount of work we have to do ...

I am done walking U all to the water on this ... U can either drink it or not ... but I am not bringing U there again .. *L* ...

Enjoy fellas ... my work is done here ...

The Messaih??? ... I didn't say anything about turning water into wine ... i just said u all can either drink the water or not .. and i sure as all hell didn't mention bread or fish ....

I agree with Diam. I have been thinking for some time now that we're falling behind by not having our player evaluation team in place. Both our own players and the college players that we need to draft (and throw in the FA market that we'll need to tap).
This is the time of year when the GM and his scouting staff are pretty darned important. Again, I agree with Diam that every day that we stay as we are is another day further behind we fall...at an important time to not be falling behind.

You have a point. We don't have a team in place right now. I'm sure Koke knows who he'll bring, but they haven't had a chance to really talk about it. Having to start over will effect us. I don't think it will much with the draft, but with free agency it probably will. But Diam, you can't tell me that Koke doesn't know who would be a good fit for the Ravens right now. There is NO WAY that teams don't have ideas like that in place. Hell, teams have DRAFT BOARDS in place right now. Sure, he needs to analyze our needs and how best to fill them and that will take time, no doubt. But the Browns and Ravens both run a 3-4 defense and the players we target will be similar to the guys they have on top of their list.

It may not seem like it, but I do realize that Koke and team (what team, I don't know, but my bet is HE does) have a lot of work to do in the time coming up. But in no way is it as much work as Parcells and company had to do last year. This is a do-able job. You don't have to be a genius to sign a few free agents and draft some good players. Hell, I could do it. *L*

I agree with him as well.

I don't think it matters when we hired a GM. When you go through a transition like this, you're behind no matter what. And with each passing day, that's one less day of preparation for the offseason that we have. So the sooner the better. But like I said, we'd still be lagging even if everything was set in place the week the season ended.

I don't know how far behind we are but it does worry me. When we came back from the modell abyss we were way behind. I think this was a huge Lerner mistake. I remember hearing we had the choice of returning the year we did or the next year. We obviusly choose to return as soon as possible and I believe it really hurt us. We blew a lot of draft picks because we weren't prepared because the decision on ownership was made so late. In retrospect, I don't know if Clark and Policy would have done better with 12 more months of preparation but I do believe it hurt us and that we are still feeling the effects.

Then when we embarked upon the RAC/Savage era we were also way behind in our preparations. And I firmly believe that this hurt us quite a bit as well which is why I always defend Phil on his 1st draft and cut him some slack on it (though I do criticize him on a few other things especially that email).

It is hard to know at this point how much if any we are behind. But it does worry me. Of course I did inherit the worrying gene from my Mother :smirk

Not to worry people, we are going to use Randy's proven method for success, the famous "CBH" theory. We will have our GM and scouting staff up and running the day AFTER the draft. That way we won't miss out on any FA deals, contract changes or extensions. We will have no cap problems and will draft nothing but, All Pro prospects. Our new "GENIUS" HC and Randy will do it all.

In case you don't kmow what the famous "CBH" is, it's something I was told never to do by many people through the years, get the cart before the horse. Not to worry though, the cart will be loaded with a large supply of, ORANGE KOOL-AID, just drink up and smile. Oh, by the way, don't forget to send in those checks, the ones to renew your season tickets.

I just wonder how much that formula to success cost, it really worked out well last time, when we hired the HC before the GM now didn't it.

Wow, going on 25 years since I watched the Browns win the big one and 58 yrs since my first game at the old stadium and 36 yrs as a season ticket holder, until Art book for Baltimore. Oh, now I remember why I didn't get my PSL when it was offered, I didn't want to get the cart before the horse.

Bud Shaw
Plain Dealer Columnist

Paranoia makes a comeback.

The firing of Browns Direc tor of Player Personnel T.J. McCreight might have been the inevitable product of regime change -- he was, after all, Phil Savage's top lieutenant.

It could've been based on poor decisions in the pro personnel department last season, too, though why the delay then?

But in either case, there was a Nixonian twist to McCreight's departure.

A Browns official tried to find out whether McCreight was talking out of school with members of the media.

The concern might even have stayed in-house, except the Browns aren't on that kind of run of organizational excellence these days, if you haven't noticed.

The "investigation" hit a snag when someone gave the official the wrong cell phone number to contact McCreight. The call was made. Instead of reaching McCreight, the official was told -- after an initial question or two -- that he was actually speaking to a reporter.

Imagine if this were how things worked in say, intelligence gathering. It would at least explain why eight years later, we still haven't caught bin Laden.

McCreight, who was serving as the highest-ranking Browns official at the Senior Bowl, was let go a few days later.

Not a single Browns fan will care how tight a ship Eric Mangini runs in Berea -- or how paranoid a workplace the Browns' headquarters might become -- if he consistently wins football games or even beats the Steelers on occasion.

But if ever there were a time when an organization needs some transparency with its fan base, it's this team, in this economy, with this audience.

And the question in Berea hasn't changed in that regard. Who's going to provide it?

That kind of public embrace and forward-thinking isn't going to come from the camera-shy owner. And if the Browns ever get around to naming George Kokinis as GM, he'll defer to Mangini as the voice and face of the franchise.

In addition, no matter what his contract says about having final authority over the roster, Kokinis will owe his job to Mangini.

While the country is excited about change, the hope as far as Browns fans are concerned should be that this regime unearths the best of Bill Belichick and not only the worst.

It's not rude to tell someone they were making things up, and you did just that.......

Kokinis is less than 1 week from being with a team that was in the AFC Championship game. He is not working "for us" just yet....as far as we know, but as you wrote they may not have announced it yet. I posted an article in the LAYOFFS thread in Tailgate Lot how the Browns didn't even release a statement on the death of Lavelli and how Mangini is concerned with getting the walls painted in Berea......I'm not one to cry wolf, and also read how our scouts were at the Senior Bowl minus Mangini and a GM.....so I'm not real concerned about losing a few days time.

However, the FA period opens up in 5 weeks.....and these scouts of ours that we had at he Sr Bowl may or may not be our scouts next week. We have to have things assessed........who will be retained, who will be shopped, what needs we can address on March 2nd and what needs do we need to look harder at in the draft.

The clock is ticking and our head coach is worried about getting the (insert profanity) walls painted in Berea!!!!!!!!!

I answered your question ... and I actually tried to be as tactful as I could and not to be rude while at the same time being HONEST with U ... I am acutely aware that your a very sensitive fella .... sometimes the TRUTH JUST HURTS ... and god forbid someone be honest with U ... the HORROR ...

I mean come on dude ... U really are not that ignorant that U think that Coke is working for the Rats right now ..please tell me U don't ... and U also think he's working for us right now with NO CONTRACT OR ANNOUNCEMENT ...

him working for either team right now goes well beyond dumb, straight past idiotic and warp speeds passed assinine ... you'd create an entire new category of CLUELESS HOMERISM if u believe that one ...

don't be mad at the messenger ... it was your message that just made me cringe at how absurd it was ... so in essence I am the victim here and should be the one offended as I think my IQ actually went down a few points reading that ... and as everyone knows I have precious few points to start with ...

and my hole is getting renovated ... getting an enima if u will ...

Though in fairness to Mangini, he probably isn't supervising the project.

I would imagine he is sorting through the things on which he needs to get up to speed.

Just a question for you or some others may know....are our coordinators actually on board and in house at this point. I mean I know they are signed, but are they actually here yet....in the building...working at least partial days as they try to manage a move and move in on the family front.

It's not rude to tell someone they were making things up, and you did just that.......

I never said he was working for us,, I said a whole lotta IF's.... I made nothing up shep,,,, Not one word was made up, it was Questions, and observations.

Here's a quote from my post:

Quote:

OK,,

If Koks is still with the Ravens, then he's still working.. what's he working on? Maybe the exact same things he'd be working on here if it was a done deal and he were already on our staff.

Did you see the word IF there.... Here's another Quote from my post

Quote:

If he's not still working for the Ravens, then just cause it's not been announced, doesn't mean he's not already working for us...

Did you notice the IF... did you also noticed that I never said he WAS working for us, but that he could be... And then thier is this:

Quote:

If it's true that he's coming here and it's just a matter of time for the announcement, Would his mind not already be on what's needed and what we have already. I mean, he reportedly spent two days here last week with the HC, DC and OC and possiblly other staffers as well.

Did you notice the word IF again..... and IF he's coming here, don't you believe that he's thinking about what needs done... and we already have been told that he met for 2 days with Mangini and Staff... What part of that was made up or a lie.

then there is this:

Quote:

So how far behnd is he really. (If he doesn't come here, then yeah, I really see how far we could be behind)

First part is a Question, but I forgot the question mark so freakin shoot me... but then did you notice the IF word again.... Did you notice that I think and agree that IF he doesn't come here, we are behind? What's wrong with that freaking statement?

Then there is this:

Quote:

The scouts that remain are still doing thier jobs just as they would had nothing changed. We reportedly have folks at the Senior bowl like any other year. Not sure if Mangini went there or not last week. Didn't hear it reported.

Tell me, what's untrue or misleading about that.... I really wanna know.

Then my final comment is a question and I didn't even forget the question mark this time...

Quote:

So tell me again, how are we so behind that we should worry?

You wanna tell me again where I made something up, or where I lied or where I mislead anyone...

I asked questions, gave thoughts, expresed possible situations.... if that's lying,,, then holy crap, we've all done it.. if it deserves to be treated in the fashion that Diem treated me, then I can't tell you how disappointed I am with you and anyone else that agrees with that guy.

Why?? So u can make stuff up again so u can feel better?? .. *L* ..

the combo of your lack of knowledge about what must truely be done and the fact U want to believe we are not behind give U no shot of getting it ...

Then when I push back, I get this from you:

Quote:

I answered your question ... and I actually tried to be as tactful as I could and not to be rude while at the same time being HONEST with U ... I am acutely aware that your a very sensitive fella .... sometimes the TRUTH JUST HURTS ... and god forbid someone be honest with U ... the HORROR ...

You call this honest, Tactful and not rude?.. read my post to Shep who for reasons I can't even imagine, took your side..... Then tell me what upset you so much.

RUDENESS IS YOUR TRADEMARK..

It's who you are.. comments like this
Quote:

I am acutely aware that your a very sensitive fella

don't wash when you basically say I'll make stuff up.. that's exactly the same as saying i'm a liar.... I didn't make up ONE FREAKING thing.. I posed questions, if's, theories..... and I didn't make any of it even remotely appear to be what I thoiught was ACTUAL FACT.... just what could be.

If that's being sensitive,,, I'll take that label.. I have no problem with fighting back when I'm in any way labeled incorrectly as being dishonest. YOU WOULD ALSO I BET.

What actually happened is this, I questioned if the thinking was right about us being behind and as usual, when someone questions a thought that you believe is fact, you bite back with some kind of rude behavior..

You clearly disrespect anyone with a differeing opinion from yours..

Funny thing is, I didn't address my comment to you (not that that really matters) But you somehow found it necessary to tell me that since my theory doesn't mesh with yours, I must be making stuff up.

You are amazing Diem..... just not in a particularly good way.

Wasn't it you that wrote something the other day that said you don't come here very often because of something that people do here that bothered you..

Absolute proof that if we all don't step in line with your thinking, we may as well be go home so you can have the board to yourself..

So we send TJ and our scouts down to Mobile for the week to get a good look at all these prospects and then we fire him? Do I have that right? We only send one top-level personnel guy to the Senior Bowl and then when he gets back, we fire him. What kind of operation is this? You guys may be okay with all of this, but something very strange is going on in Berea. JMHO.

This is the basic, accepted model of corperate America today. Didn't you get the memo?

Ok then, I guess i took it the wrong way. That being the case, i apologize...

I thought it was an interesting take on it...even if it was from PFT.

Last I heard, such "rumor crap" wasn't even allowed to be posted on this board.

ie....PFT, OBR. But everything that stays the same changes I guess.......

We may be a bit sensitive to firings and such due to the climate of the nation, but what did some of you expect??

You change a coach and a GM and expect everything else to carry on as is???

If you think this stuff is shocking, wait until we start making decisions on which players will stay and which will go...some people are bound to go nuts with some of these decisions.

Expect changes.

Bound? Hell these people are already nuts they are just waiting to burst, no matter what the situation is.

On a side note: Damon you can put IF in front of anything you want, if the content still comes across as out there it is going to get questioned, and you did set yourself up for gettting ripped on a bit cause sometimes you do come across as an over thinker. No matter it is just a damn message board thickin up and move on.

OK,, Now I get it... thinking outside the box is prohibited... I'll try to remember that the next time I post.. Thanks Fletch

Let's not get caught up in the lives of meaningless little people who've lost thier jobs.
There are much more important tasks that have to be completed to have a successful 2009;desks that need to be cleaned out, furniture that needs rearranged, and that mark of all winning franchises-freshly painted wallls.

Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem
