Time to calm down everybody it's official link Browns announce hiring of Kokinis 01.25.2009 The Cleveland Browns announced the hiring of George Kokinis as the club's general manager on Sunday evening.
Kokinis returns to the club where he started his NFL career with a total of 18 years of front office experience, including the last 13 years with the Baltimore Ravens and the last six as the club's director of pro personnel.
"The Browns are excited to bring George back to Cleveland where he began his NFL career," said Browns owner Randy Lerner. "He is a tireless worker that has spent his entire career evaluating talent and knows the type of player it takes to be successful in this league and in our division."
"I would like to thank Randy Lerner for the extraordinary opportunity," said Kokinis. "Cleveland is a football town and I look forward to working alongside Eric Mangini and the rest of the organization."
Kokinis began his NFL scouting career with the Browns in 1991 after serving an internship in the team's operations department. He then spent five seasons with the Browns scouting department (1991-95), including two working alongside Browns current head coach Eric Mangini, before the team relocated to Baltimore.
In his time in Baltimore, Kokinis worked closely with general manager Ozzie Newsome in analyzing NFL rosters and coordinating and evaluating the free agency market. Kokinis also made personnel recommendations and assisted in contract negotiations.
Kokinis assisted in the acquisition of Pro Bowl alternate running back Willis McGahee from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for future draft choices. That year, the club also resigned linebacker Jarret Johnson. In 2006, Kokinis negotiated the contracts of draft picks Dawan Landry and Ryan LaCasse. The team also acquired quarterback Steve McNair in exchange for a 2007 draft choice, resigned linebacker Bart Scott and also signed a number of significant free agent contributors, such as defensive end Trevor Pryce, who led the team with 13 sacks, running back Mike Anderson, defensive tackle Justin Bannan, cornerback Corey Ivy and linebacker Gary Stills.
With the Ravens, Kokinis spent four years as the team's Northeast area scout from 1996-99. He was promoted in 2000 and spent the next three seasons (2000-02) as the club's assistant director of pro personnel. His primary responsibility was the advance scouting of opponents and providing reports to the coaching staff. In 2003, Kokinis was promoted to the Ravens' director of pro personnel and was responsible for all aspects of the pro personnel department.

Well, he did tell Savage over the phone...
Better than by text message, right? Although, that is Savage's preferred method of communication...
Go Browns!!

Good.....now people can calm down.
It isn't like we were missing anything IMO.
We have plenty of time to get people settled, review the roster and start settiing some targets for FA and the draft....this isn't a moon shot we are talking about.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Someone should make an official Kokinis is hired thread. Many readers like myself quit clicking on this after not clicking 6 pages ago. just lock this one up.

I just started to post, it might be time to consider the next guy on our GM list...lol.
I did reason that we may have become so used to the leaks from the front office that we are having a hard time getting used to the Browns front office that is not leaking something to the media.
Great news, glad its done...

Glad it's "official," though it sounds like he's been working within the organization earlier than today.
So who's the first FA to be contacted Georgey?

Just clickin,
I see on ESPN's article about the hiring that T.J. McCreight was rumored to be fired Friday. Wonder why they had him scouting at the Senior Bowl if they were gonna fire him.

I heard that most of the teams left on Wednesday and it's certainly possible they didn't decide to fire him until after Wednesday. They also may have decided since they were paying him through Friday they might as well get some use out of him. I'm sure the conspiracy nuts will come out of the closet with other scenarios.

Yes..how dare us be frustrated that our team is a damn laughingstock. Sorry Tulsa (and please dont take offense to this) but if you dont find anything wrong with what has been going on you're the one with the problem
Way to many hard working people have invested way too much money into supporting their team for them to deserve the utter embarrassment that was this past season and every year since 99. 10 years and not one meaningful win and the damned steelers are going to win their 2nd superbowl in 4 years.
Yep nothing to whine about here

I take no offense and it's not that I don't find anything wrong with yesterday. Yesterday certainly sucked. I nor you can change yesterday though, it is what it is. However today and tomorrow are new days and while I can't effect any outcome, positive or negative, I choose to have faith it will get better and we will succeed and overcome those past failures. I have hope until such time as no hope is available, like after game 8 last year.
