I guess I didn't complete my thought...after they did coach em up. There was a remarkable difference in their tackling and the defense in general.
"If you have to "teach" the fundamentals once a player gets to the NFL level, then you have a player that shouldn't be in the NFL."
hmmmm, I know you are still young and aspire to advance your coaching goals. But I got news for you. fundamentals are always being taught at the NFL level. ALWAYS. And every great coach that I've ever observed or read about WERE STICKLERS ON FUNDAMENTALS!!! Which meant if they weren't there they were taught, drilled - after all if you are being classed as anal on proper technique and fundamentals I would tend to think there is teachings of those fundamental properties being done. Its the coaches who fail that think the way you just did. And I guess you can say RAC failed.
Deeper than blame the coaches? Maybe not as individuals. I'm sure most of them are very knowledgeable. But the system was flawed (coaching) cause obviously we didn't execute nearly enough needed. And the worst thing for me was how we came out flat every year for our first game. All on the coaches.
Of course there were other variables. But none bigger than the overall failure of the Coaching staff. And you my friend...if a Coaching career you do aspire - NEVER, NEVER stop with the fundamentals. The better grade/level of player might determine the time you have to dedicate to it. But you never stop reviewing and rehashing the fundamentals.

Pit...you don't have to be "RIGHT" or "Wrong" with each and every post and opinion.
I've never claimed I batted 1000.

I agree with you that to me there was a lack of satisfactory coaching results. But to it to the negative degree that you did was to me the incorrect variable in your opinion.
Let's see as this post goes on.

DQ you state his progress was just nature takings it course....well then what about all the others that didn't. Obviously coaching took with him. He didn't do it all on his own.
Good point. Problem being, if you're communicating in a manner where only "one LB gets it", something isn't right. Unless of course it's your contention that they're all "busts" accept DQ?

Actually I thought Cribbs was one of the worst examples out there. All his accolades come from his Special Teams contributions. Which pretty much are Heart and Desire based.
His role has been expanded. Ala the Wildcat formation and a tad at WR. Thus my comment about him getting more oppertunities to showcase his talent.

He's a terrible example because of the his development as a WR...I think thats actually an outright failure and if not for his ST success he probably wouldn't even be on the team.
Here we just disagree. When you're THAT good on ST, you can obviously catch a footall. Once again, I feel this may be on coaching. But he always seems to be a playmaker.

As you said... "But technique in tackling, playing out of position, and a general lack of cohesiveness among certain units IMO lays squarely at the feet of the coaching staff."
you are 100% correct - but just so not to get a big head. They did coach, just were not able to communicate it evidently well enough to take.
Well see, I try doing the basic math on my opinions. That doesn't always make me right by any means.
But if you're not instilling the very basics as was mentioned above, there's no way in hell you can instill the intricacies of the game. Sort of like the old addage "You must crawl before you can walk".
When somebody can't even crawl worth a damn, I doubt they can walk either. But hey, I guess even basic math can be flawed?

As I said, this doesn't mean I'm right. But I'd say you must admit that there is some logic in how I arrived at my opinion.
And that's all it is.....JMHO

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
