I don't know. Maybe if the Rats win the SB, Coke will get "NFL Executive of the year". Then everybody might stop whining!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

As much as I'd like this saga to end, I don't want Pittsburgh to make the Superbowl, so I will gladly take delaying our hiring until February.

I hate the squeelers too...but we need to put our own team above all esle. If Koke is Randy's guy then let's get him asap.

Can't get him asap... Nothing on the planet that can be done.. as long as the ravens are elimated, he's gotta stay there..

Any way, would you want to deprieve a guy of the reward of his efforts to win a superbowl.

If I'm koks, and the Browns try to rush me.... I reject the offer out of hand.... I tell randy lerner and my buddy eric to kiss off... I'm staying for the party,, like it or not.

Besides, I'm not convinced that it's that important for him to be here tomorrow.. a few more weeks won't matter. We have out HC and he's building his staff.. The scouting staff is in place and they can continue to work until told otherwise.

it's just not a big deal...JMO

The fact he still interviewed yesterday, after their win speaks volumes to his desire.

It's time to just sit back and see how it plays out since we're in no position to beat him over the head with a club anyway.

Exactomundo.... let it play out. in the mean time, take this extra time to interview other candidates..

And here's a hint for you all,., if lerner doesn't interview anyone else,, then the deal is done and the only thing left is to announce it. That will come when the Ravens are eliminated.

you don't understand what I was saying.
as a matter of fact, I can barely understand what you were saying.

I'm saying, if Koke is Randy's guy then root for the Squeelers to beat the Rats so we can get Koke asap. Otherwise we gotta wait until Feb.
I'd like to get our gang together soon so we can get the college kids viewed and rated.

I understand what you're saying, but I never, under any circumstance, root for the Steelers.

We have scouts who are evaluating things right now. As being a pro personnel director, I'm sure he's already done his homework regarding that part. As much as I'd love the hiring to be completed, I'll sacrifice it for enjoying a Steelers loss.

BTW, I wonder if we did get Kokinis how much of an advocate he'd be in trying to lure Terrell Suggs.

SECOND INTERVIEW COMING FOR KOKINIS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 12, 2009, 11:29 p.m. EST

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the interview of Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis for the vacant G.M. position with the Browns went well.

We’ve heard that it went so well that Kokinis will be interviewed again.

The first interview took place in New York; the next interview likely would occur next week in Cleveland.

As the Plain Dealer points out, the Browns can’t hire Kokinis until the Ravens’ season is over, which will be either January 18 or February 1.

Hmmmm, a second interview? I guess that's a good sign. Showing Randy is putting forth a concerted effort to make sure he is the right guy for the job. I'd still like him to interview some other candidates but if Kokinis is the guy for the job and he wants the job, then fine.

You know, Randy has been under a lot of fire for what he's done so far this off-season and not taking enough of an active role during the regular season. But I think HE is still learning on the job and has learned a great deal from the Crennel-Savage experiment. I think he is beginning to "get it" and is doing the right things to end the era of futility in Cleveland Browns history. Granted, only time will tell, but I don't think he deserves the bashing that he's receiving. JMHO.

As far as rooting for Pittsburgh so we can get Kokinis sooner, well sir, that is just plain nuts! In fact, I can't stand the fact that one of our hated rivals will be in the Super Bowl. But if it's gonna be someone, let it be the Ravens.

Regardless of who you root for, if Kokinis is our guy, odds are better than not we'll have him next Monday. Pitt has held flacco to 51% and 39% completions in each of their two meetings and Pitt won them both. I just can't see flacco suddenly getting over on them in for AFC Championship game. Not that it can't happen, but...

Let's see if we interview anyone else in the meantime. If not, then we know who our GM is (will be).

Yup, you are right,, I didn't understand what you were saying. I thought you meant for Randy Lerner to put the arm on him to get him to move NOW..

Which of course can't be done until the Ravens are eliminated..

As it stand, I'm rooting for a Zona/Pittsburgh Superbowl.. I wanna see Ken Wiesnhut and Russ Grimm put it to the Steelers....

Now that we have had the interview, I don't think anything would prevent us from continuing talks with his agent trying to formalize a possible deal.

I am sure most of the parameters were discussed and agreed upon during the initial meeting. If parameters aren't agreed upon, things aren't usually described as having gone well.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I have little doubt that that is exactly what's happening behind the scenes as we speak.

Another anonymous Browns related quote from one of Pro Football Weekly's NFL front office sources:

"I was told (Browns owner Randy Lerner's) ears really perked up when the media told him that (Eric) Mangini was available. That's how he found out. I think he sees Mangini as the next (Bill) Belichick - a guy who did a good job in this first stop but just could not get along with the media or meet high expectations.

When Belichick was in Cleveland, Mike Lombardi was picking players. You can go back and look at some of those drafts - they were awful. The problem in New York was not Mangini. The problem was Mike Tannenbaum. Hiring the right GM could not be more critical. And I'm not sure (the Browns) don't have the right guy for the job already in the building. (Director of player personnel) T. J. McCreight has handled the day-to-day responsibilities that most GMs do while Phil (Savage) was on the road scouting. He knows the scouts.

He knows the system. Picking players has not been the problem in Cleveland. They have a lot of talent on that roster. That was a highly desirable job - the owner has unlimited pockets, the talent is there, a franchise quarterback is already on the roster...The problem there has been the coaching.

The fans might not like it if McCreight became the guy. It would be too much of the same. I could see the outcry, but the best decision is not always the most popular one."

I was wondering about McCreight. It will be interesting to see if he stays on. There is something to be said for having SOME continuity, as long as he deserves to stick around.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. If we did that, I think that would help a lot (once again, so long as T.J. deserves it).

Personally, I'm not going to get to excited or down about whoever they bring in. The names, organizations and coaching trees don't mean jack, it's whether or not they can make this team look like a real NFL caliber football team.

McCreigt and Koks have a relationship.. Not sure if it's good or bad, but having both come from Baltimore,,, They more than just know each other, they were on the same staff..

you know how that is, if they got along and had respect for each other, it could be great.. if not,,, and Koks gets hired,, say bye bye to TJ

Not that it's very important, but has anyone noted that, living in NYC, Lerner would have a bunch of exposure to Mangini? As an owner, I imagine he keeps up with the league and as a New Yorker, there's two locals getting the press...so did he covet Mangini back before he was fired?

Well, if you believe certain NY media-types, they'll have you believe that Mangini orchestrated the entire collapse of their season, knowing that RAC was going to get canned, so that he could come to Cleveland. I hear he also likes to spend his free time in Dallas perched upon a grassy knoll.

I'll be in there if you want, but I'd rather coach em up after they get em. Give me the LB we have, add a Curry, Matthews, FA LB combination of 2 and we'd have some studs in the 3-4.
