Quote: DP17, a rap fan? I wouldn't have guessed that at all.
If this was 1999 instead of 2009, I would be listening to nothing but rap. Now, maybe 50% of what I listen to is, and the rest is some sort of mix of rock. I even enjoy a little bit of electronica and some softer top 40 kind of stuff. Couchgirl mentioned Prodigy. That album had some rockin songs on it.
I'm sort of diverse in what I listed to. I don't like all music. I don't listen to any country at all, nor do I really like metal bands. I listen to hip hop, hard rock, alternative, punk, electronica, pop, oldies, and some classic rock. But not all classic rock, as I've never cared for stuff like Pink Floyd at all.
It is interesting to see what everyone is in to. A lot of classic rock people on board.
I am the same exact way. If this was the 90's I listened to a lot of rap. But the stuff today blows compared to then IMO. I was huge into Wu Tang, 2Pac, Bone, Ice Cube, Brotha Lynch, NWA, etc, etc. You remember when everyone had the Rockford Fosgate Punch 12's in the trunk and a $200 tape or CD player
I have always been big into metal, techno, and alternative music though which seemed to evolve and keep sounding better versus rap which to me all sounds the same. Some of it I hear does sound good, but the majority all talks about the same stuff.

I started listening to him a little after I heard the song he had for "Jarhead". He isn't bad. A lot of the other stuff I just can't get into really. I tried b/c some of the guys I work with love rap and I hate it. It's all "yo yo, &*(& this hoe, I need sum doe, I gots tha gold" Every music video has some car with huge rims and women wearing no clothes shaking their ass. It's played out and unoriginal. I am a drummer and love making beats so I usually listen for the music aspect but the lyrics ruin it for me.

Oh yea, the first set of speakers I had were Rockford Fosgate.
Ha, funny you said mention Brotha Lynch..... my brother's phone went off today, and the ringtone was "Refuse 2 Lose."
Some of my favs back in the day were 2Pac, Cube, Dre, Wu-Tang, Outkast (older stuff was better), CMW/MC Eiht, Spice 1, BONE, Scarface, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, Xzibit....
Now it's more like a mosh of everything..... just whatever I'm feeling at the moment. Lately, I've been listening to Kanye West's odd, very different new album, The Offspring, Theory of a Dead Man, that new song by The All-American Rejects has been stuck in my head as well as Jay-Z's new song.

Thats not really saying a whole lot, at least as far as mainstream hip hop. I am not sure he is more talented than Mos Def,but anyone else in the past decade would not be hard to beat. Thats kind of like being the girl with the best body at fat camp.

the guy is a moron when he opens his mouth in public, and he seems like he could be kind of a douche, but his music is downright brilliant.
he is easily the most talented hip hop guy of the last 10 years, at least...
I've been into talk radio the last 5 or 6 years ... mainly sports ... so I won't even pretend I'm up to speed on the latest and greatest. But when I have heard Kanye West, brilliant does not come to mind. Actually, what comes to mind is "what's the big deal about this guy?".
It's the same for Jay-Z. I think the guy is terrible yet some proclaim him as the best rapper of all-time ... but that can't be because everyone knows it's Tupac.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
Have you heard of Lyrics Born? The guy writes good stuff. He's clever and funny. Check out the song, Stop Complaining.
www.seaqpod.com A great site to look up and listen to music for free. No sign in or other obligations.
To those that like electronica. My company lights a lot of electronica shows. Have you heard of Cicada, or Lotus? Or Dj's David Starfire, Gaudi, Phidelity, Deru? If not, check'em out.
Tie: Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction Van Halen - Van Halen

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street Led Zeppelin - 1st 6 albums The Beatles - White Album Primus - Frizzle Fry Pearl Jam - 1st 3 albums Black Sabbath - 1st 3 albums
Quote: Come on....I know there has to be more country music fans.
My absolute favorite would be just about any Kenny Chesney album. To name just 1, well, it would be "When the Sun Goes Down", Or the "Live" album.
2. Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rearview 3. R.E.M.- Out of Time (shiny happy people rocks)
My tastes know are almost exclusively country - from Cash to todays big names, but I also went through a rap stage, a hard rock stage, classic rock (the who) and am still fond of most types. I just listen primarily to country now.
And, mainly, I'm not an "album" guy - more of a song guy on the rock, rap, etc genres.
Hillbilly Deluxe is a great song - as are too many other country songs to even begin to list.
I used to listen to Scarface "The Diary" all the time. Ugh, Steelers just pick/6 I still listen to Beastie's "hello Nasty". That album is a classic. I loved Cypress Hill too. I thought Temple of Boom was a pretty good album and of course the 2nd one with Insane in the Membrane on it.

The Beasties had some great albums. Hello Nasty was a great one, but one that nobody gives any respect to, but was actually a good album was Paul's Boutique.
I saw KRS 1 as a solo artist at the Grog Shop about 6/7 years ago. It was just awesome to practically stand shoulder to shoulder with a legend like him and listen to his thought provoking lyrics.

Ohh yeah, "Paul's Boutique" was a sweet album. "High Plains Drifter" is a kick ass song and "looking down the barrel of a gun, sun of a gun, sun of a bch, gettin paid, gettin rich" I remember that song that starts,,"Hellllo Brooklyn" pounded with some 12's in the trunk. "New York, New York is a helluva town"

As far as the Beasties go, I'm a big fan of Check Your Head. They played the instruments on the record, and I really like the jazzy instrumental stuff with Money Mark on that album.
Awesome album, definitely one of my favorites. If we were just naming our top three RIGHT NOW it would have made my top three. What also hurt it was the fact that all of Breaking Benjamins albums have been so good that I couldnt pick a favorite out of them.

Yeah, all three albums are up there for me, but We Are Not Alone sticks out for some reason. I bought it like 5 years ago and still listen to it just about everyday, especially if I have any long drives ahead of me. They are suppose to be releasing a new album sometime this year, I believe in May or so. Can't wait for that.
My top 3 (and this was difficult to do), in no particular order:
The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Michael Jackson - Thriller Garth Brooks - Double Live
The Beatles, well, that is actually the very first CD I've ever owned (still have it too)...Michael Jackson, well, it changed the face of music (and Michael's face too! )...Garth Brooks, well, I just love him and I couldn't pick just ONE album of his as I think they're all pretty good (except the Chris Gaines crap...not a fan of that).
I could listen to all 3 of these at any time.
Honorable Mention: Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA
hahahahaha 337, were you in the trunk of my 1987 VW Jetta about 7 years ago? hahahaha...thats exactly what I had.
Listenin to stuff like Pac, and to really go into it, stuff like Philly's Most Wanted, Clipse, Fabolous (when people first heard of him), but also Wu-Tang, Method Man and Redman's Blackout! (My favorite rap album of all time), the first JaRule album (ya know, when he was hard?),
hahaha, oh man.
I also really enjoy some MC5, i know, random, but i enjoy fully
"It has to start somewhere It has to start somehow What better place than here? What better time than now?"
All you rap folks need to pick up a copy of Soundbombing II and listen to the whole album. It is a little known classic that very few people recognize. Give it a full listen and you will be in awe. It showcases beats and rhymes from some of the best NY had to offer in the late nineties. Trust in Derden on this one and go to your local library and pick up a copy of this flawless album.
Best rapper = Chuck D. I love Fear Of A Black Planet and I hate rap in general. That album is just that good.
I agree about Chuck D but I thought " It take a nation of Millions" was a better album. I think on " Fear of a Black Planet" P.E. got off into some of the goofy gimmiky stuff with Flave.

Remember that song w/Anthrax? That "stuff" rocked back in the day.

1) Nirvana - In Utero 2) Rage Against the Machine - Battle of Los Angeles 3) Our Lady Peace - Naveed
This depends so much on what mood I'm in, though. Right now, I'm feeling very "alternative/hard rock". Later, I could be feeling "classic rock", which could lead to Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Cream, etc.
This is all jibberush to me Rap to me is not music, sorry But from an old time band member , and yes ive been in manny you have to put Elvis,The Eagles, and The Stones as some of the all time greats.Oh! and the Beatles
I could not resist, but it would have been a little easier with the top 10 favorites!
In no particular order:
Four Way Street- Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young Sticky Fingers- Rolling Stones Made in Japan - Deep Purple
I could have easily added more if that were the case!
Master of Reality - Black Sabbath Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin The White Album - The Beatles Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd Paranoid - Black Sabbath Street Corner Talking - Savoy Brown Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond
The music in the 70s was the best! OK, for me it was anyway!
lol, I have no idea why, but that song popped in my head earlier tonight, and I keep seeing that scene from The Wedding Singer over and over with the dude in the Flock of Seagulls haircut.
