How much did his words do to "keep the racial ball rolling?"

That guy may have even created a few new balls. Pun away if you wish.

Those words need to be addressed by Obama and condemned.

Or the people chanting Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey when President Bush was introduced???

.

Damn, I was kind of on the laptop/half watching the inauguration and I thought I heard that in the background, yeah that is pretty classless, completely uncalled for. I am just as happy as anybody to be getting rid of Bush but that is low.

Yeah he fouled out two times over, I dont disagree. BUT he was still the President of our nation and some class and decorum should have been used.

I know this debate has been going for a few days, but I think it's brainwashed lunacy to suggest that because someone was president they deserve some form of decorum or respect. Like someone above said, if you suck you get booed.

Now, I've never booed the Browns and I never will...just not my style. But no part of anyone would ever lead me to tell someone not to.

Honestly -- if the people elected a tutu-wearing chimp in roller skates, would you suggest that we treat it with decorum and class? The guy was a term away from invading Margaritaville...why should I give him my respect when he's done nothing but embarrass my country for eight years?

To be honest, I think a lot of people do it because at the end of the day, Bush never really got his rebuke. No matter how people want to spin it, Obama/Windbag beating out McCain/Avon Lady was not a referendum on Bush. Despite the fact that he's a loser, Bush never lost.

I think that eats at people a bit.

The man said this:

Quote:

Lowery implored God to help Americans make "choices on the side of love, not hate, on the side of inclusion not exclusion, tolerance not intolerance."

He updated the famous passages from Isaiah, suggesting humanity "beat tanks into tractors." He called for a time, quoting Micah 4:4, when every man shall sit beneath his vine and fig tree and live in peace and unafraid, Amos 5:24 , "let justice will roll down like waters."

but you are upset about this:

Quote:

help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

So, one passage, an old spirtual rhyme, has you up in arms?

To each his own I guess Peen.. But it seems somewhat childish to me when added to the Rahm thread you started also..

You know, I am getting really sick and tired of this attitude that is spreading like wildfire in this country that suggests if "white people" stop with their racism, then racism will cease to exist....This reverends comments highlight that very attitude.

Why is it that black and other minority entertainers can tell all the "white" jokes they want. But as soon as a white person even starts into a minority joke.....it's taboo. We get all of these discussions about race on TV that try to "bring race relations into the open" and try to "help solve the problem". But all you hear is "White people need to do this" or "White people don't understand that". Well guess what????

Racism is racism folks...and it is ALLL WRONG. "White people" don't have to do SQUAT. And conversely, "Black people", or "Latino people" don't have to do this or that. WHY??? Because the problem will NEVER be solved that way. Look at those types of solutions...they divide people and separate them into groups when the goal is to unite them. How can part of the solution be to segregate if the goal is to unite????

No.....This problem has to be tackled on an INDIVIDUAL basis. It will be solved when each person, in their heart, says "I will not judge this person beside me on the basis of his skin color.....I will not judge this person based upon his culture." This problem need to be solved within. There is only ONE person and ONE person ONLY that can make you decide to be tolerant of others. Do you honestly believe that because Johnny down the street is tolerant, that now so are you because you have the same skin tone????

I don't care if you are Black, White, Yellow, Brown, Red, or Purple with Green Polka Dots. I don't care who your father was. I don't care where you were born. I don't care where you grew up. And I don't care how much money you have. What I do care about is what you do and what you say. What you do and what you say are true measures of a person. And all those other things should NEVER be an EXCUSE for what you do and what you say.

I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

He's seen Whitey not do what was right in the form of firehoses, hangings, fires, etc.

And I've seen black against white crime, should I just assume that all blacks are racists and full of hate towards whites, or that all men beat their wives, or that all fathers sexually abuse their children?

This is the biggest part of the problem. That all are judged by the actions of a few. Race relations have come a long way, they aren't going to disappear overnight, and your not going to change the majority of those with prejudicial thinking. It's just going to take time, and for each new generation to be less prejudiced.

Peen...maybe I should copy and paste my response on your Chief of Staff thread.

You are really upset at Obama being elected. But Peen, the time for action by you and the GOP was before the election, not now...your too late.

By posting trivial complaints such as these, you appear to be a sore loser.

Peen...you better than this...I mean that... .....mac

JC ... this is a polarizing event that will be a big test for this country. Last night two friends of mine who have been friends for years nearly came to blows over this election. At first I thought it was just another argument but then it evolved into an in your face , spit flying shouting match between two friends who are otherwise quiet as can be and they had to be seperated . Now I am all for a spirited debate but when it screws up my poker game well..things have just gone too far.lol

Just clicking and I'll try to keep politics out of it.

I think the thing that irritates me about this more than anything is what this kind of statement proliferates. Regardless of anyone's political beliefs, for a black man to achieve the highest office in the land is a huge accomplishment and a testament to how far America has come in terms of race relations. Obama's election itself didn't cause race relation improvement, it reflects where we're at compared to where we were.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s name has been invoked a lot these past few days, but many miss the fact that his I Have a Dream speech wasn't just about his dream of seeing black people become integrated at every level including the presidency, but rather, his dream was about seeing people accomplish that goal, regardless of their black skin color but rather, based on character and values. Here, we see a man, no matter whether you agree with his stances or not, having achieved that.

Yet, on a day when we should be reminded of how far America has come in race relations, we're instead reminded of color and how the white man has had an imperfect past and how we're all still racists. Same old, same old. Yes, racism still exists, yes there are still problems to overcome, but this is progress that should be celebrated. Instead, we get a statement that, to me at least, is a huge step backwards.

Quite frankly, I thought it was crap.
