Well, my thumbnails were more useful in basketball. Plus, when a guy took a jump shot, if I didn't think I could at least alter his shot, I'd just stand there and immediately after the shot, while the guy was still in the air, I'd jab his gut, hard. Hardly ever get a foul called, but I guarantee, the guy would remember that the next time he took a j in front of me.

Just wondering how the black posters on the board felt about a few things ... and the reason I ask is not so much to find out your opinions but to see why U feel the way U do ... so if u could please explain yourself that would be helpful to me ... also if u wanna talk about how some of your friends feel and why that'd be great ...
if u don't want to reply for any number of different reasons .... I understand .... also if u don't want to reply in here please PM me .... i will not share it with anyone else ... just trying to get some insight from a different perspective than mine .....
1. the cartoon about the cops shooting the chimp ....
2. Sharpton as a focal point in many issues for blacks ....
for those that respond .. thanks ... appreciatte it ...
I'm not sure about this cartoon...but if Obama is represented by a chimp...that doesn't seem too cool...I'd have to see it.
Al Sharpton doesn't truly represent the people. He's a good guy to call if there's police misconduct. Other than that...he's a nuisance

Yep, people perceive things very differently. When I just looked at it I didn't think of race. I thought it was in incredibly bad taste and not in the least bit funny. That's my perception.

I can see where they were trying to go. If they hadn't said that the chimp represented Obama, I would've thought it was supposed to Congress. It was just not a good move on their part. I'm not overly offended and outraged, but I can understand if some people are.

I honestly do not understand all the commotion over this photo. So what, it's a chimp! There were many political cartoons that also showed W. as a chimp. And yet, suddenly because the president is black it's an issue?

One thing that struck me about this cartoon when I saw it --
Generally, these sorts of political cartoons come with a label - i.e. I saw one the other day where an elephant was pictured taking a crap. The word 'Democrats' was written across the elephant and 'stimulus' was written on the steaming pile. Often when an animal or something is meant to represent a person or group, said group or person is written across it. You would think that if the chimp was meant to represent Congress, you would've seen it noted on the cartoon...and yet it wasn't. Made me think twice about it.

I think there is a difference...and like it or not, I do think race matters.
Bush was often compared to a chimp because he was generally perceived as boorish and unintelligent. Obama - whether you agree with his policies or not - is generally seen as a bright guy...therefore the chimp comparison doesn't really seem to fit his profile except as a racial comparison.

Just because they assumed it meant Obama, doesn't mean that it represented Obama.
Contextually, lets take a quick look at this. First off, we know that the chimp came from the widow who essentially replaced her husband with a chimp for companionship. This is the inciting moment if you will to this cartoon.
Now the caption clearly reads "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." Once again, I point you to the direction of WRITE. Now, please point me in the direction to show me where Obama WROTE the stimulus bill.
Sure he helped mold it, but bottom line is that he didn't WRITE the bill, just signed the final copy after his other half, so to speak, agreed upon what should and shouldn't be in there. After it was agreed upon, it then and only then went to Obama for his signature. That little squiggly line at the bottom is the only thing that Obama WROTE on the stimulus bill.
The parallels are pretty obvious. Then again, I guess one could make the argument that there are also blacks in the House and Senate however there are several races represented in both branches.
EDITED TO ADD: Actually, come to think of it even more, most of these items were things that good ole George refused to support. I remember a quote somewhere from Pelosi that essentially said these were things that the previous administration refused to look at. You can't deny the irony of the fact that the past administration is now "dead" so to speak. Thus a dead chimp...aka Bush. I don't think they meant it this way but it is a completely plausible solution. And yet people have blinders on and cry racism without actually taking an analytical look into it.
