FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff said Friday the Falcons will try to trade the contract rights on Michael Vick to another team. In an interview that appeared on the team's Web site, Dimitroff said, "With regards to Michael Vick, we've decided to seek a trade of his contractual rights to another NFL club." Vick is currently in federal prison on felony charges related to dogfighting and is scheduled to be released in July. Vick has a contract that runs to 2013 and calls for him to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract is worth $45.11 million, with another possible $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses. "We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it's also in the best interest for Michael," Dimitroff said. "This has been a really unique situation from a variety of standpoints and because we will actively be involved in a trade situation, I don't envision our organization speaking any more about this subject publicly until it's reached a resolution." He said the Falcons have had no discussions with other teams because Vick is under suspension by the NFL, "but we think some teams might be interested in exploring a trade." NFL spokesman Greg Aiello on Friday reiterated commissioner Roger Goodell's statement when he suspended Vick on Aug. 24 2007 that he will review Vick's status when legal proceedings are done. Vick's attorneys did not immediately return e-mail or telephone messages left at their offices. Dimitroff said if the Falcons are unable to complete a trade, they will re-evaluate. He said a decision would be made that is in the best interest of the team. The Falcons made a move last year for a quarterback, taking Boston College's Matt Ryan as their first round draft choice. He was last year's rookie of the year after leading the Falcons to the playoffs. Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press Ok, with all of that being said...would you try and make a deal for this scumbag ...??? How about if you were the owner / GM of the Lions, Chiefs, Oakland or any team that might be interested in Vick...... Here is a video about it too from nfl.com... Mike Vick

Worst thing about this is that if he can still play, somebody will give him a chance... That contract he has with Atlanta won't be the numbers he gets.. not even close I suspect.
But someone will come calling. Count on it.

There has been plenty of talk on this board about signing a guy who stomped his cleats on the head of a helmet-less opponent...I'm sure someone somewhere will want Vick.

I think there's some wishful thinking going on down there in Flowery Branch. Then again why not, after they pulled Ryan out of thin air? Now that they have Ryan I don't see Vick going back to Atlanta.I'd be surprised if anybody would give much of anything for him. He's a problem and an oddity at QB. IF I wanted him, I'd wait for the Falcons to release him.If somebody beats you to him there's always pacman available.

Refresh my memory Phil,, I seem to remember the incident, but can't put my finger on who did it.

Haynsworth
At league minimum, he would be an improvement over a Dorsey or Gradkowski. Im just saying. He could play in the Flutie backup role. A mobile backup playing behind a dropback passer.
Nobody will trade for that contract or pick him up off waivers. He would have to clear waivers before any team even considers taking him.

Well, first he'd have to be reinstated by the NFL. No sure thing in itself.
But don't kid yourself. More than one player in the NFL, and some on this team, didn't think what Michael Vick did was wrong. Are they all POSs?
He has no place on this team but someone will pick him up once he's reinstated. I'd bet on it.

If he pays for his crime and is a rehabilitated individual regarding the society infractions that caused him to lose his freedom and a lot more. I say, let him earn a living again.
Us??? I wouldn't mind trading a 2010 7th round pick (maybe 6th) and then once he comes on board and gets back into playing shape, gets accepted by society...trade him for a lot more!

Considering that hes already did more time and lost more then anyone else for dog fighting. I think he will be reinstated. Plus, his boys turned him in so he wont be hanging out with his cronies that the NFL hates to see.

I personally think Vick's case is a little different. Dog fighting is morally wrong and cruel, but there are so many people that do it....
He didn't kill a person. Didn't have someone killed. He just participated in a quite popular sport, and got in trouble for it.
He served his time...

I agree.
I have always believed in second chances.
I would offer a 3rd rounder for Michael Vick.
Who would you rather have.....Mike Vick or Travis Prentess??

We are talking about dogs here my man.
I don't like it.....but he has paid the price.
That said...we could win with him......not as a qb....as a H back....running back....slot receiver....sometimes qb.....whatever you want to call it.
I guess I don't find dog fighting as repulsive as you.
I wouldn't do it....nor would I go.....but in the end, it doesn't bother me all that much.
Barbaric possibly, but not much different that shooting a bolt through a pigs head to provide the tenderloin I have in the oven at this moment....and half those hogs don't have a chance of living another day.
Just being real here.
Now, it you are one of those veggie eaters, I can getter respect your cause.

Yes, he should. He went to prison. He served his time. He should be allowed to earn a living. Lewis went to jail for conspiracy for a drug deal that was made. Should he have been allowed back?
No, the crimes aren't equal but the fact both served time is. Hell, there was a guy from the Rams who killed someone when he was driving drunk is still in the league.

I like steak and potatos as much as anyone.. Not sure what you were driving at with the Veggie comment..
does it matter what the crime is? A felony is a felony.. I believe they called this a felony. Not sure what degree. Certainly, killing a human ranks above killing a dog... But it doesn't make it right.
I do love dogs,, very very much.. well, pets in general I should say. But dogs more so.
I find that sport, if that's what you want to call it, deplorable.
But what's worse is the stupidity of throwing it all away like Vick did. He's a PUNK...
Look, if someone gives him a chance, and he comes back, keeps his trap shut, stays out of trouble... and I mean ALL trouble.. Good for him.. But I want him no where near my team...
And I'm sticking by my feelings that it doesn't matter how many others do it or find it acceptable. It's against the law.... Just like smoking crack....

Y'know, I almost made a comment on here yesterday saying that dog fighting tugs a little too close to people's heartstrings, but figured I'd get flamed for it.
I wouldn't say it doesn't bother me much -- more often than not it's a signal/precursor to strong antisocial behavior...but there's much worse.
I cited Haynesworth earlier...cleat stomped an opponent without a helmet on. Gave the guy 30 stitches, permanent scars and permanent vision impairment...heat of the game or not, I don't see that as any more or less sick than Vick.

The difference is obvious. Dogs look to us for protection and love. They love unconditionally and in most cases are unable to protect themselves from their human masters.
A football player that gets his head steppped on can get up and kick the other player's ass. Or sue him in a court of law.
Owners that fight their dogs are scum. Period. He (Vick) may get to play again and probably will. Doesn't mean he isn't a scumbag.

When? after reinstatement or before he was convicted?
If it's after reinstatement, and he gets arrested for fighting, he'll have proven he hasn't grown as a man...
As for him being a punk,, whatelse would you call a person that does that to dogs... HERO? It's my opinion,, you don't have to agree or even like it, but I think he's a punk.

Bottom line .... Vick is trouble
Always has been, always will be. Both him and his brother are knuckleheads. Vick has been involved in more questionable situations then just the dog incident. Things get covered up. ie. the marijuana incident at the airport (tapes disappeared???) Vick has continually shown poor judgement. Do we really want him on our team? No. Do I believe he is allowed a second chance? Yes. Just not on the Brownies.

I understand....I keep dogs....2 right now..both pound dogs..they sleep in my bed....so we aren't talking about someone with a casual love for dogs.....but thay are dogs.......just like horses are horses.
At any rate....I say what I feel despite what some people think.....to be honest....I don't really care....if I was hungry enough, I would skin them and eat them if I had to.
I wouldn't like it....but I would do it.
Just to give some perspective of the mind frame.
Vick has paid his price....now it is time for us to act like animals and give him a chance.....yes....I typed that the way intended.

I agree. I don't like trouble, and I'd hate to have it follow him to Cleveland.
Maybe the guy deserves a second chance, I just don't want it to be us that gives it to him.

If this guy comes to Cleveland as a Brown lots of U will be happy as hell .... I would no longer be a fan of the Browns ... I would not pick another team .. I would just not root for us ... no way could I root for a guy or a team that took the guy that did what he did .. NOT A SHOT IN HELL ...
I could care less what society says about him doing his time ... if it was up to me I'd put him and all his redneck buddies involved in that heartless ass entertainment and put them in a big ass hole with the dogs they trained ...
but i can't do that so I would just be disguisted with the Browns and never be able to root for them again ... as that is all I can do ...

Dog fighting is a blood sport---and it is certainly not for me. But there are some people that would enjoy a dogfight---and I think Mike Vick and Ernest Hemingway were probably two of those people.
And relating to Vicks release, I think that Vick did his time, and he should be able to earn a living---and in his case, that means playing ball. I would like to see him land in Detroit. They have a great receiver that he can throw too, and they desterately need a QB that will bring them some kind of stability at the QB position---I believe Mike Vick could be that guy---plus, it could add up to a great story---an embattled QB resurrecting his image, and a franchise in Detroit.
Dating back to the initial charges against Vick---I felt that jail time was a bit harsh for the crime he committed, and now after he has served his time, I hope that he can get back to his life and put all this nonsense behind him.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......
