I think Andre Smith will be considered for the Browns his workout wasnt nearly as bad as some are making it out to be lol. Couple teams are dieing for this guy to drop to them and are sending out a lot of negative stuff cough cough Carolina.

Now I think a guy that could come in and start day 1 at RT and should come heap is Loadholt from Oklahoma. got some issues but hey he gets a little coaching he is a more athletic Ryan Tucker.

I THINK YOU'RE CRAZY...

Smith made a MAJOR mistake since January...Hell...B4 that even getting suspended for the Bowl Game...

Comes to the Combine like he did...ADMITS he ain't ready...Fly's the coup unannounced...Then comes to his Pro Day with Breastages larger than a 16 pound bowlin ball???...

Sorry man...This dude has ZERO WORK ETHIC...And it's OBVIOUS...Of course some team's gonna take em'...And they're taking a MAJOR RISK...

Loadholt is going to be a stud. Think Marcus McNeil. He will dominate in the run game and will be servicable protecting the QB, which is all you need at RT.

You argue that Smith and Monroe aren't right tackles. I disagree. They are athletic enough where they could bulk up, and adjust to playing on the strong side. But I don't think either of them will be there.

I think it'll go

Detroit: Jason Smith
St. Louis: Eugene Monroe
Kansas City: B.J. Raji
Seattle: Matthew Stafford

That leaves us with the sure fire pick that almost all of us want.

And for the record, I am in no way advocating that we take an o-lineman at 5.

NEGATIVE...

I said they are both FRANCHISE TYPE LEFT TACKLES...

U don't throw those kinda guys to the Right Side...

Would u throw Thomas to our Right Side????

I didn't think so...I know where you're comin' from so don't even answer...

We have a different definition of the word solid ... to me (and most of America) solid is AVG, middle of the road ....

so in NFL terms

.... to me thats the guys in the middle 3rd of a players position in the NFL ..

... to u it means the bottom of the barrell starters and high quality back ups ...

hence why I asked u to define it ... U did and now we can agree .. or are at elast alot closer to agreeing .. *L* ..

I agree in that he may have started for us last year ... I am not sure as he has not played enough in the last two or three years for me to get a gauge on him ..

so from that standpoint alone I am not quite sure where your getting your ASSesment of him from ... when was the last time U actually WATCHED him perform ... seriously .. do u even remember the last time u saw him play ....

and I'm not beig a jerk ... I would really like to know .. WHAT ARE U BASING YOUR ASSESMENT OF HIM ON ... why do u think he is better than Shaff ... and please tell me when the last time U actually watched him play was ... was it a year ago ... 2 years ago ... 3 years ago ... or longer??

if this guy is better than Shaff (and he may be .. my personal opionion is hes DIFFERENT and POSSIBLY a better fit here, depending on what we want to do on O ..... ) .. but even if he is .. he is alot like Donte in that he is OFT INJURED ... this guy if I remember correctly lost his job when he went down with one of his numerous injuries .. and I believe over the last couple years when he has been penciloed in to start at various positions due to injuries hes been questionable an awful lot and missed some games due to injuries ...

I have no probs with this signing .. i just do not see how u can be so sure hes an upgrade ... so please tell me what your basing that on and when was the last time u actually saw the guy play .... i don't think thats asking to much ...

From Doug Farrar, Seahawks:

Womack was a favorite of Mike Holmgren's, but he doesn't fit in the zone blocking system Seattle will implement going forward. What you’ll hear about him is that he can play anywhere in the line but center, but he’s not nearly agile enough to attack either tackle position with any reliable consistency – he is certainly not as quick as the Browns like their tackles to be. I don’t know that he’s a legitimate replacement for Kevin Shaffer.

What he will give the Browns, and this is something the team really needs, is a little more sand in the pants. I love the left side of Thomas and Steinbach, but they can get pushed around in running situations. If there’s one thing Womack can do, it’s hold the point and establish a lane. He’s not quick to the second level, nor is he especially agile, though he does have decent “phone booth” speed. I could see him as a right guard, or playing right tackle in a pinch, though the latter position isn’t really the optimal one for him.

The one thing with Womack that you really have to watch out for is his predilection for injury, Of course, last year, when all five of Seattle’s starting offensive linemen went on injured reserve, he was healthy all season for the first time! That was unusual – he’s never been in tremendous shape and he’s going to pick up various muscle boo-boos along the way.

He’s a good pickup for the Browns – as I said, we does provide a power they do need -- but the versatility thing is a bit overplayed. He’s a good guard and an emergency tackle.

why did u do that .. now peenie has his ammo ... *L* ..

and who is to say that this writer is any better than ours?? .. he may be .. prolly is .. as ours SUCK .. but who knows .. in any case

I AGREE with the guy ... hence why i just got through (and said it in my initial post to Peenie) saying that he maybe a better fit depending on what were going to do .. if we want to become a power running team .. he is more powerful than Shaff ... he is still not very powerful and is not a good "mauler" but hes better than Shaff .. *L* ..

I also mentioned his injuries ... i am shocked to hear he stood healthy all of last year ... like he said . it was the first time he ever achieved that .. he is oft injured ...

if Mourg is correct ... in that were going to be a power running team ... then as of now ... I would not be shocked if we go ...

Hadnot (hank is now 2nd team)
Tuck
BUM future FA/Draft Pick ...

with Pork Chop as much much needed depth to Tuck .. I see us picking up one of the other bums in FA (maybe even get Shaff back ... we can play PC on running downs and Neck tie on passsing downs .. *L*) .. then draft someone in rnd 2 or maybe even move back up into rnd 1 .....

that would be a good plan IMO ...

DnD........if Holmgren loved him so much why didn't he start?? I mean if he was that good/loved by Holmgren you would think he could crack the starting right side on a pretty crappy Hawks OL.

"shrug"..........just saying.

Did you bother reading or did you just miss the part that said he doesn't fit in a zone blocking scheme?

He is what he is. He'll probably be better than Hadnot and if he starts at RT, we're in trouble.

Did you bother to take into consideration that Holmgren was the coach last year, and they didn't run a zone scheme??? Jesus you people take what you want out of something and omit everything else.

Perfect time for it...He needs all the help he can get...lmao...

Tell ya' what...Between Chops and Tuck we've got a lil' depth on the right side...

It virtually guarantees we're lookin' at an OL with the 3 top 50's...And it won't be at 5...

Which is fine...Actually about perfect cause we need it...

The thing we have to guard against is the temptation to go CENTER...We MUST take the highest rated OL when we do this...Don't sacrifice a Robinson for a Loadholt cause he's a RT even tho we have Rob's rated higher...

Know what I mean???...

This thought just occurred to me... Wasn't Steinbach hailed as a versitile lineman that can play all positions when we signed him? What are the chances that Steinbach gets move to RT with Womack at LG and Tucker at RG?

Well, let's see, he's played and started for the Seahawks, yet you asked him why Holmgren didn't start/play him if he was a favorite.

I'm not saying this guy is a world beater, but to ask why he didn't play when he started nearly half the games he was there is a stupid question.

dude .. he lost his starting job 2 or 3 years ago ... maybe even 4 .. he started lots of last year due to injuries ... he had no starting spot .. he was there #6 OLman ...

Holmgren loved him cause of that "versatitlity" .... hes a good guy in that regard ...

they are JUST THIS YEAR going to a zone blocking scheme ... witch is why he is expendable now ..

hope that clears things up for U ..

I understand that, so what would be the problem if he started here? How can one assume this guy is going to suck at RG when with his previous team, he started half the games he played, including 9 out of his 9 games played in a Super Bowl year.

People who ASSume that he'll suck here because he wasn't an all star in Seattle are doing just that, assuming. Personally, he'll fill a big hole in the running game but will a liability in the passing game. It is what it is. He's a less talented version of Ryan Tucker. Not the greatest, but an adequate starter, may look better than he really is if surrounded by good pass blockers *like Big Hank and Tucker*.

See what I mean about the pie in the sky crowd...lol.

big......Womack is decent depth if he is indeed depth. If we are counting on him to start then we are in trouble........think a better version of Kevin Garmon

Actually, yeah, that is exactly who and what I was thinking. Better version of Kevin Garmon.

Excellent Comparison.

I like the pick up, He has to be better than Hadnot.
Anybody heard about that goldberg guy that visited last week, does this signing mean that one is dead?

How would you Oline guru's compare Goldberg to Womack? Other than they could both suposedly play all line spots except center.

The one consideration in Porky's favor is that he elected to drop a bunch of weight. Coincidently, he remained healthy.

Is that Brown and Orange glasses? I don't believe so. Out of shape players get hurt more than in-shape players. Does that mean he WILL play all year? Who knows.

It sure looks like, as of right now, Tucker is back at tackle and Porky is our new starting guard.

"Maybe not in EVERY case, but this is generally a true and honest statement."

Yeah, but you know what...I don't see much "GARBAGE HERE"

I see a lot of teams letting go marginal players who have had coaching changes. That could stated about us as well. The guys we are letting go are not Garbage.

Except with the incomplete build up done by Savage/RAC our depth and bottom of the Barrel was a known weakness across the NFL.

Just remember this about "GARBAGE" the NFL Defensive MVP of the year was cut 3 times as Garbage

Isn't that what "maybe not in EVERY case" means ?

And for the record Harrison didn't get dumped from one team to another,....he just never made the team in three tries. I'm talking more about vets who have been around 8-10 years and don't show much effort other than to go to the mailbox and pick up their next check.

yes...my post was more in the "GARBAGE" without the outs of "MAYBE"

"I'm talking more about vets who have been around 8-10 years and don't show much effort other than to go to the mailbox and pick up their next check."

Just who does that describe...as mentioned in another thread on the subject. The only "garbage" "bum" exchange I see is Poteat for Cousins - and I still consider it an upgrade at least.

And surely you are not talking about Mosley and Elam??? Too you to fit that.
Barton, Bowden, Royal. All come here with an excellent record of giving maximum effort.

Womack...he conquered his biggest drawback...weight and it seems like it is a thought process that has stuck with him.

As far as I know, Judge, you are correct, sir. I hope the retreads can play. This guy is a solid drive blocker. I say start him or put him in a slot. Just a notion for destruction.

If we go into the season like that I would hate to be DA/BQ..lol. I don't think we lose a hole lot in run blocking, but Tucker playing RT at 31 wasn't that great in pass protection........he's what 36 or 37 now.......ugggh. Womack for Hadnot is probably a small downgrade (ASSuming Hadnot moves inside), but both are a downgrade to Tucker at RG.

In a perfect world we find a RT via the draft and keep Tucker at RG.......and Porks as depth. I am just having a hard time seeing a RT coming from this draft unless it involves a trade up/down to get one. I love Oher from Ole Miss (and no I live here, but I'm a OSU fan), but to get him we are either trading down (I'm all for) or trading back up to mid 1st round range (it would cost both of our 2nds, and I'm not for that). I am not sold on Loadholt, and there is little else. Your probably looking at Tucker playing RT next year with a rookie RG, and that is fine by me if the cards don't play out for us to get a RT...........we aren't winning a SB next year anyway, and a year of Tuck at RT won't kill us.

I've stated this more than once..if the Browns indeed want to go more of a power scheme, move Hadnot to center..and it seems that they do not have to draft a OC..but they should draft a legid power RT..one that can take over for Mr.Injury...errr Tucker..or ffit in at guard..and keep Womack as depth..
Otherwise the right side would be Womack at RG and Tucker at RT..
This is beginning to have more play since the Browns are meeting with John St. Clair.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/03/cleveland_browns_visit_with_an.html

one thing's are for sure...we're exchanging lighter, one-dimensional finesse type OL for larger, versatile,(Cheaper) and more powerful players to play RG, and RT. PorkChop and St. Clair have played everywhere on the OL, and Hadnot is likely to replace Fraley if we don't draft a center.

So can someone clear this up for me...we intend to play a historically out of shape, second rate RG at RT? Or are we planning to move Tuck, who was moved to RG because of his RT play, back to RT? Thats if Tuck can still play.

I was hoping RT with Tucker at RG cause he can make anybody look better at RT.

But more than probable they brought him in here to compete at the RG position.

I say "COMPETE" and not start cause we don't know what's going to happen in the draft. Do we end up drafting a RT in the first two rounds? Do We end up drafting a RG prospect from either the OG, Center or RT ranks in that 36 or 50 slot???

If RT then I think a healthy Tucker beats Womack out at RG and Womack becomes a Swingman backup RG/RT.

But although I was hoping it was RT (but the report I read was two years old that made me think that.)

He lost the weight and had his best production...and we got him - I think RG - and we'll find out how good he can become with the proper weight.
