Because agents never lie, and always state the issue exactly as it relates to their client. I think you're ASSuming an awful lot, my acerbic friend. Trot out all the articles stating that the issue is not about money that you want, whatever you say, it's always about money.

But what we know is that Mangini played heavy-handed with Rogers and it set the stage for the petulant child to throw a tantrum by crossing his arms and not coming to DaDa when called

No, we don't know that. it's more speculation from the media..

I'm not buying any of it.. I'm convinced that Rogers decided he had as good a year as Haynesworth and now he wants a big payday like him

that's just an opinion so I can't back it up with anything solid

Tough to argue that, but it all still just speaks to how far away this franchise had gotten from what really matters. All of 'em, everybody.

Silly boy..........I'm from Cleveland, not Acerbia

9 times out of 10, it's about money. This one isn't. There's no smoke there in that regard. The problems that were here all happened BEFORE Haynsworth signed his deal.

I don't know if anyone other than Mangini and Rogers know for sure why this has gotten so bad( assuming his no-show indicates that). I'm sure both parties are to blame but Mangini IS the coach and this is supposed to be a man's game. I think that Lerner put an emphasis on discipline and accountability in his decision on a new coach, who does Mangini work for? I'd hate to see a guy like Joe Thomas start disrepecting the organization by seeing how they treat star players. Why should JT act like a professional when he sees it's not neccessary under a coach like Mangini?

I can guarantee that more players than not will respect Mangini for not playing favorites.

But after he had a monster season. The "slight" is a beautiful excuse, taylor made for media spin and misdirections. Seeing any correlation between all this and $$$$ yet?

If this isn't about money, it is the STUPIDEST thing ever.

Do you all realize what we're talking about here?! Two grown up men not saying high to each other become a middle-school he said/he said feud? It damn well BETTER be about something else or I'm worried about the manhood/maturity of BOTH of 'em...

It's more than that. It's WAY WAY more than that........

It's about one grown man having his wittle feewings hurt while the other grown man wants to play captain of his ship so that all the other bit-players must cave under his rule

IMO this whole thing has to do with Rogers not wanting to be a part of the rebuilding process. The guy was pretty much run outta Detroit for lack of effort--cuz the guy just didn't want to play for a team that had nothing else really going for it.

And when we picked him up, I believe that Shaun was rejuvenated to actually be playing for a "contender." If I'm not mistaken, he was supposed to be one of the final pieces that was going to push us into the playoffs.

And now, it all has blown up in his face. The team sucked last year---the coach was fired, the GM was fired----and now, its like he is back in Detroit all over again. IMO he signed up to be a final piece to the puzzle---now his role has changed, and so has the outlook for the whole club.

IMO this has more to do with him wanting out than Mangini not saying hi, or money, or any of the garbage the media is spewing.

The media isnt spewing garbage...if Shaun Rogers didn't wanna play for a losing team, he would have quit giving 100% mid way through last season. But he didn't, he kept playing hard...and there was no talk of him being unhappy.

Had he been upset about the team, we'd have heard about it in 2008.

Not a freaking peep, until EM gets here...he totally blows Rogers off at the C-Town sports banquet. And then goes hardass nazi wanting Rogers to drop weight.

Like it or not, big time players have big time ego's and the HC must be able ot manage, control and sometimes stroke a star players ego. Rogers is immature, no doubt, like 99% of the other NFL players. But he busted his butt last season like nobody on this team, and didn't complain about being triple teamed.

And didn't whine about his contract, yet EM feels it necessary to go hardass on him. EM marking his territory? Trying to establish himself from the top player down?

I dunno, but I do know that if EM looses Rogers, we all loose and so does EM. And it will seriously hurt his reputation among players.

IMO!

He was happy to play for Romeo and Co.---it wasn't til after they were fired that we started hearing about Rogers being disgruntled. He played out the season like he said he would---he made a committment and stuck with it. It's not like he quit trying after his first year in Detroit----it was a culmination of losing seasons that ended up straining the relations between him and the rest of the team there.

1 season in Ctown wasn't going to do that---lets not forget, we were supposed to be a contender. He played out the season cuz he.....like a lot of our guys...LIKED playing for Romeo.......and they genuinely WANTED to win for Romeo.

And after the new regime took over, it came out in the media that Rogers wanted out.

I seriously doubt this had to do with something as simple as a missed greeting between Gini and Rogers----these are grown men we are talking about---lets give them a little more credit than that.

Quote:

I think "totally blows him off" is a bit of an exaggeration. If he didn't introduce himself, or missed him, or just didn't say hello, I don't attribute that to "Totally blowing him off."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just think that it is way more realistic to assume that Rogers wants to be part of a winner, and as soon as Gini and Kok came in with their intentions of stripping down the roster and "rebuilding," he didn't want to be part of that.

To me, that is the most fair and realistic reason why the big man wants out.

But believe what you gotta. I just have more faith in people than to think that they wanna jump ship over sometihng as simple as hello and goodbye.

...They have an unhappy QB in Denver and we have our unhappy NT...time for a straight up swap and chalk it up as Mangini's first major screw up.

I'm not happy about the way Mangini has handled this situation, from beginning to end. But you can't make someone play for you that doesn't want to be here.

Then trade Quinn for a first round pick (or multiple picks) and we are back in the hunt to draft a replacement for Rogers...problem solved...

...We don't need Cutler...

I would trade Rogers for a pair of 2nd round picks...

Snag up B.J. Raji w/ number 5 if Curry is gone, and then build my o-line in Round 2.

Turk...We don't need a proven QB who ranked 3rd in the NFL in passing yardage last season (over 4500 yds) behind only Drew Brees and Kurt Warner?....WOW!

I'm not sure if any other teams, other than the Browns have 2- 2nd round picks so I don't know where your going with that proposal, (2 second round picks for Rogers)?

Like I said, "if" the divison between Rogers and Mangini can not be repaired it's best to deal Rogers and I see a similar situation in Denver with them having unrepairable division with Cutler and look at it as an opportunity that helps both teams....jmho...mac

Well, there is no way we get a 1st round pick for BQ......maybe multiple picks......I do like the trade for Rogers for Cutler....ONLY if we can't fix the Rogers situation...IMO Rogers is a beast, way more valuable to our situation that Cutler is.....but if you can't fix it, then that would be a good back up plan....And there is not a single player in the draft than comes close to being as good as Rogers.....maybe not even 2........so that would leave a HUGE hole.....!!!!!

This is it. Right here. Not sure if your little laughing dude indicates sarcasm but this is the situation to a T.

I see two different sides that a lot of people are jumping on, but I'm in the middle. On the BROWNS' side.

On one hand, Rogers (and a bazillion other overpayed men-children in this league) need to get over themselves, ditch their skirts, and get out there w/ their teams.

On the other hand, how friggin' hard would it have been for Mangini to calm his butt down and make him happy? This trend of him being all cold and methodical and trying to emulate his mentors in every way isn't working so well for him here. If we lose Rogers because of this, I don't care what Mangini's first off-season moves w/ us all amount to, he will have FAILED big time w/ Rogers.

And does anyone know if Ryan reached out to Rogers? How bout Lerner? Would it have taken a rocket scientist to make him happy and on the same page as everyone else?

It amazes me that it has come to this. For Pete's sake, Rogers is easily the 2nd best tackle in the whole damn league and the perfect anchor to the 3-4 D we've been trying to establish for like 10 years now. I'm not going to panic if we lose him, and I realize that we should get huge value for him in a trade, but losing him will still be a GIGANTIC, PATHETIC BLUNDER on this new regimes hand.

I really have yet to see where we're going to "lose" him.

The guy was PO'd at the coach. Then, we hear NOTHING more about it. Then he doesn't show up at VOLUNTARY workouts.

I agree that it doesn't necessarily "look good" for the team and that it's easy to connect the dots that Rogers is doing this as a protest. Heck, IMO, he probably is.

But I also am not just going to assume. Rogers had already come out and complained. What was to stop him from continuing to complain and force a trade or a release? Instead, we hear nothing more on it.

Heck, for all we know, Mangini and Rogers met and Mangini told him he didn't have to come to voluntary workouts. Unlikely? Yes. But we have just as much proof (solid proof) of that as we do that Rogers is still PO'd.

You know, I have a question that I'm just not sure I've ever gotten answered.

Why do so many of you guys and so many sports writers just absolutely hate Mangini? Why are you so unwilling to give the guy a chance? I mean, what's our record under Mangini? Can someone answer that?

The Jeannie is out of the bottle. It can't be put back in. We can't go back to those days, except under one single premise: If we're a team that's won it all and can THEN dictate to our players. One or two teams in the league can do that right now. We aren't one of'em.

Yet those one or two teams did it BEFORE they won a Super Bowl

Rather he be there, but quality whining demands. As the self-designated optimist here: Hey, at least he wasn't in jail like too many in the "Bigs" after all. Still has time; there will be rough edges and chemistry to develop, but I think it bears watching, but not belaboring. Let's play pigskin, folx! Can't we all just get along? LOLetc

I know you're asking a BUNCH of people here, but since you replied to my post, I'll tell you that I don't hate Mangini at all. I like the way he's handled free agency, and I like what he accomplished w/ HIS plans w/ the Jets. I have all the confidence in the world in him as our coach.

I just think that he should have been able to make Rogers happy practically the SECOND he found out he was all disgruntled.

I'm so sick of hearing about S.Rodgers being unhappy.....people like this is why this country is falling apart and the main reason I find myself more & more not caring about professonal sports, Why should I sit on my couch and watch over paid players cry about 25 million not being enough money and how this person hurt is feelings becuase he didnt wave at him...give me a break, these guys maybe incredible atholetes but many of them ant men, there over pampered dramma queens. More & more I'm giving up watching sports on tv to spend the time outside hunting & fishing,

Clay, you need to pick up this week's Sports Illustrated. There is a fantastic article in it about how professional athletes lose their money. You'd think that making millions every year would set you up for life, but so many of these guys have to file bankruptcy either while still playing or soon after retiring.

It's amazing.

Thanks ...I might just do that, I guess I just cant imagion how it cant be enough, I realize the more one makes the more it takes to continue that type of life style, there's agents to pay higher taxes paying accountant, body guards ect. and many never had so they overdue it now. It's just boggles my redneck mind how somebody can spend 1 million dollars and to recieve 7-8 million a year and end up broke...just blows my mind, i guess thats why Clay matthews was my favorate player, he drove the same pick-up truck year after year money didnt really change who he was, i respect players like that.

I totally agree with you, Clay. It's ridiculous that they can get away w/ acting like children holding their breath and stomping til they get what they want.

The point I've been trying to make is HOW HARD is it to make Rogers happy? If it truly is a "respect" issue, that is. Not only do I think Mangini or someone in the regime could have calmed him down, I also think they could easily have exposed him for being greedy and wanting more money, if that were the case.

The article really goes into some depth about how these guys lose so much. For a lot of them, the inevitable divorce after they've retired just saps away so much of their money.

I don't know if it's an act or trend at all. We've all met people like this.. Driven and focused beyond reason. So focused in fact that they are missing a piece of humanity that makes them able to socialize in a normal way.

Almost like a horse with blinders on or something like that.

It may be that simple.. don't know for sure, but it may be.

If I was in the NFL... my first million would be put in a high interest savings account.. I would kill on interest!!!

And if I had to stop playing... I would try to live off the interest made each month...

Of course my lifestyle would not be lavish... but who cares.. lol... the next mil I made I would have bought a house and paid it off...

I don't understand how players mismanage their money....

NFL players are like rappers.... You can't play forever... You can't rap forever... The money won't last forever... INVEST!!

I think what happens is that most of these kids come to the NFL from relative poverty. They get thier first taste of the good life and go nuts and like all young men and women, they think they'll live forever and keep making that money forever.. They don't see the end in site so to speak.

So they bling up, buy the house but don't pay cash for it, they finance it, big mortgage payments, Bentleys with 2000 dollar a month payments, imported furniture etc etc..

If they all did it your way, then they'd only need to do one other thing, prepare for life after football. By that I mean a career of some worth and value... maybe an investment in McDonalds Resturants or some other franchise that has value.

Something other than sitting on a couch with the homeys and getting in trouble.. what's that old saying,, idle hands are the devils workshop..
