You and others. The problem is that it's the same media people who no longer have any contact within the organization that started the feeling that it's about money, and so such a feeling remains.
Would Rogers like to be a free agent every year, sign a big deal, get a huge signing bonus, then repeat? Sure, who wouldn't. But that isn't the root of this issue.
When "Big Baby" meets "Little Bellichek" you have what we see here........

Of course his representation is going to say he's unhappy. Making Mangini and Cleveland look like the bad guys, so he doesn't by wanting a big phat paycheck. Maybe he was a bit tiffed, but a grown man shouldn't act that way.
There's more to it than just that- it's the money.
Or else the nickname "Big Baby" has more meaning than we think.

His representation is only going to echo what is being told to him.
Agents may stretch things a bit with a rookie since they have never been through the process, but not a vet.
Look, if you don't think NFL teams will rook players, all one needs do is look at Ricky Williams and the contract negotiated by Master P, or whatever the heck his name was.
The Fins set things back decades with that contract.
Players need agents because NFL teams will screw them with every turn if given the chance.

I agree that they need agents. They help out the players a lot and prevent them from getting shafted or signing bad deals. They do whatever it takes to get more money into their client's pockets, which in turn puts money into theirs.
Which is where I left off.
While Rogers may be a little upset (if he is, he needs to not whine about it) that Mangini didn't address him at a little shindig, I'm sure it's deeper than that. Instead of making Rogers look bad by demanding Haynesworth money, he's going to express his displeasure with the club for being neglected. Or coddled. Whatever he wants.
I just think that is a poor excuse. It's always deeper. I have a hard time believing the guy wants out because his coach didn't talk to him at an event. If he does, "Big Baby" is an appropriate nickname for the guy.
We need him. I hope they reach out to him and talk things out, but I have a feeling that isn't going to fix it, because a man named Ben Franklin is the motivation behind it.

Only took me 20 minutes to get that posted.... having all kinds of problems, then it shows like I never posted it even though it's there.
Anyways we really do need Rogers. So I HOPE it is just a rift that can be mended by 2 men sitting down face to face. Because if that's not it, he won't be happy. And when he wasn't happy in Detroit, his production went down.

If we trade an unmotivated disgruntled Rodgers for a draft pick and then draft Crabtree, wouldn't we become the new Detroit Lions?

I came to that conclusion before I saw anyone in the media adopt it. Just put two and two together. Haynesworth got a 100 million dollar contract with something like 40 mill guaranteed.
I'm sure that having been to the Probowl this past year, which is a good indicator that Rogers had a pretty good year also (not to mention that we saw it first hand for ourselves) Add it up, if I'm Rogers, I'm thinking I'm worth at least as much or close to what Haynesworth got,, and I want it.
He's under contract, there really isn't anything he could do other than stomp his feet at any and every perceived slight.. And it doesn't matter if it's real or not. I'm convinced that he is just using that stuff so he doesn't sound like a cry baby and greedy..
Money is the only issue. I will bet you that if Mangini and Kokinis sit down with Rogers and say,, look, we are willing to sign you to a contract for 40 million guaranteed, he's in camp the next day and happy. Any takers on that bet?
But, that's JMO

I agree with the premise,...but he still sounds like a greedy crybaby. Life is a negotiation. You get what you negotiate. Play ball Shaun.
And for everyone that fauns over his last season, let's get 6 ProBowl DB's and LB'ers and see how clearly he sticks out. He was the only defender we had last year that stopped anything, and that's why he looked so damned good.

Excuse me, but....Duhhhhh.......ya think so?!?.........
Hell, a skinhead would sign up to work for a Jewish firm for $40 million guaranteed. So your hypothetical example has little merit.
Rogers may be looking for a bigger payday. But other than our inherent prejudices I see nothing he has said to point to that. And I think by now he'd have let something slip to make it known he wanted a contract re-do.

You are so busy trying to make fun of someone, or getting a "Gotcha" moment on someone, you completely missed the point..
Let me try it this way for you and you alone Otto
right now, it's been reported that Rodgers is unhappy over being ignored by mangini at a sports related function.. then adding insult to it, he supposedly received a letter warning of coming to camp overweight.
I think that's a bunch of bunk, I think it's all about the money. And if mangini and Kokinis throw out more money, he'd suddenly forget all about being ignored and getting that letter....
Does that make it clear enough for you?

To be honest, have you heard anything from him directly that he's even upset about anything? Neither have I. it's all media build up.
There is a real dearth of info coming out of Berea.. no more leaks from people there. and the only thing we hear is, releases and signings.. NOTHING else. so the rest is all media built..

You know if your skin was any thinner you'd be translucent......... Hey, I'm not the one who threw up a hypothetical example that had a player agreeing to play for someone they had a problem with because they got $40 million. Do you not see that that much money would guarantee your scenario always came true? Hell, if the Steelers called me today and said "if you'll wave a yellow towel at the next home game we'll give you $10 million", do you think I'd say no? If you do you'd be sadly mistaken. But neither scenario is gonna happen so it's kinda goofy to be discussing them, don't you think? You have no clue why Rogers is upset. Neither do I. But if we go on just what he says, money has nothing to do with it. At some point if money is the driving force I'd think he or his agent might mention that. And I'm certain that if the Browns thought it was all about cash they'd have let that slip. Is that clear emough for you?

just clicking...
The only part of the argument that Rogers was just looking for more money is the incident at the sports banquet took place in mid Jan. and Haynesworth did not sign his free agent contract with the skins until on or about Feb 27.
I don't remember when the training room incident where Mangini failed to acknowledge Rogers took place, but the dates dont support the argument that Rogers was just wanting more money.
What we don't know is, did Rogers agent have contact with the Browns before any of the reported incidents took place. That could explain Mangini's snub of Rogers if Rogers agent had already contacted the Browns about a new contract for Rogers. As of now, we must assume no contact from Rogers agent had been made at the time of the banquet...jmho

Mac...the banquet Jan...Gym Jan. Nothing is heard mentioned or leaked.
Feb. 18th its announced that Titans negotiations have ceased and Haynesworth is going to test the FA Market.
Several days later we start hearing rumblings from NFL Network Adam Shefter that Haynesworth is going to be a 100 million dollar man.
Feb. 25th The Rogers bombshell hits the media waves....no direct quotes from Rogers (can we Assume its leaked to the media from his agent???) Feb 27th 6:50 p.m. Haynesworth has agreed to verbally to 100 mil contract reportedly could be 115mil.
I find it odd that we didn't here anything about the so called Disrespect stuff. There are two things...The memo about showing up at a certain weight and Rogers biggest objection was time and the intern who delivered the memo. The only other thing there is would be $$$$$$

What I find funny about this whole situation is that since it initially happened, besides the team stating that Mangini has reached out to him, and his agent making the comment about not asking for a new contract, nothing has been said by either side. He doesn't show up for voluntary training and IMO the press just rehashes old thoughts.
It could very well be that Mangini knew he wouldn't be there, and that was it. Noone on either side is commenting on why he's not there, it is all speculation by the press. Stirring the pot due to not having anything else to talk about. I wonder who else is not there? Probably will never hear who, because it won't cause any controversy. If I had to give my opinion, I think that the press has made more of this than it really is. Stirring up the fans, and using Rogers, who's an easy target, to create something out of nothing. I believe that if Rogers really is that pissed, that he would be letting it known to the public. So far only speculation by the press has been used of proff that there really is still anything to the story.

That's right out of a Mel Gibson conspiracy theory script *L*
We heard about the snub at the banquet LONG before anything about Haynsworth.
I'm finding it hard to believe that so many fans put this all on money, knowing just how petulant Rogers has been his entire career.
Maybe everyone needs to be reminded of Winslow's cries that Savage didn't come hold his hand when he was in the hospital

Yes, I do get that...
My point is, IF IT DID, there would be an end to any hostilities that MAY exist. I'm betting that would end any need for further discussion and he'd be in camp.
At this point, I haven't heard Rogers being quoted saying anything of value,.
it was reported that Mangini had reached out to him,, and then NOTHING else reported..
The rest is ALL conjecture by the media.
In fact, it could be that Rogers isn't even angry about anything..
And here's another thing... we are told he didn't show up the first day.. but what have we heard since..
I mean, I would think that if he did show up later last week, that someone would have caught that story.. But then again, has anything outside of signings and releases been reported by the Browns? I can't think of anything.

that's pretty obvious. I was merely saying that IF THEY DID, it would end hostilities..

Well, DUH,,, Of course not..
do you get it now?

EO...I did find the following from this source web page
" Mangini might have already known trouble was brewing during his Feb. 4 news conference. He wished Rogers well for the Pro Bowl the following weekend and said Rogers would have a chance there to talk to New York Jets Pro Bowl tackle Kris Jenkins, a big Mangini supporter.
"Shaun will be able to ask Kris some questions about me," Mangini said. "Kris and I had a great relationship and I think that'll be good."
The date of the news conference they are referring to is Feb 4th, over 3 weeks before Haynesworth signed his contract for $100 million.
Was Rogers' influenced by the size of Haynesworth's contract?...That doesn't look to be the case on Feb. 4th, when Mangini suggests that Rogers seek out the Jet's Kris Jenkins while they are at the pro-bowl game held on Feb 8th.

Wow, why didn't we think of that.
Look, I'll keep beating this dead horse if you want to but it seems kinda pointless. Just admit that the scenario you concocted is, well, kinda silly and quit trying to make it look like it was some kind of great revelation that I'm too dumb to see and we'll be fine.

Question is Mac...if there was no controversy...wouldn't that be a very natural thing to state anyways. Its not like it was hinted that there was a conflict and Jenkins would be the buffer. I know it could be taken that way - I thought possibly at the time this all came out that it could.
But in the quotes its more of a Guy at the Pro-Bowl playing the same position as one of his guys. A similar Vet coming at the same time who bent over backwards complimenting Mangini when he left and thanking him. Sounds like a good opportunity regardless of peace and tranquility.
Toad...sorry I only heard of this on 2/25 and got the dates cause I googled it - all I got is your WORD. Don't tell me...Show me. (regarding us knowing about the "SNUB" well before this). I read they both were at a function. I never read any friction that came of it.

I tend to think its more about money then anything. The event happened back at the end of January but you didn't hear anything about the supposed snub until 2 days before free agency started (Feb.27) and after rumors had already come out about Washington possibly offering Haynesworth a $100mill contract.

I realize YOU think it's all about the money. My point was that by concocting that goofy scenario where we give Shaun $40 million dollars you invalidate your point.
Why, you may ask? Because as I've said 4 times now by making the amount so absurdly high you made it so NO ONE would turn it down for any reason.
Had you said something like, "I think Shaun would stop griping if we gave him a $2 million dollar roster bonus", then your point might have some validity. If we actually did it. And if he took it and said "I'm happy now".
Neither of which will happen because the Browns are cutting payroll and Shaun has not once mentioned money. See how that works.......

The 40 million wasn't an arbitrary number, it was a number that, interestingly enough, is similar to what haynesworth was guaranteed.. which was my point in the first place..
Now, make that a 2 million dollar roster bonus, and I don't think the problem gets solved.. that's not enough..
First, if I'm right that it's all about the money, then 2 mill would be laughable by Rogers..
Otto, I don't think that if money turns out to be the real problem, that anything less than what hayneworth got would satisfy Rogers ego.
So anything less wouldn't be making the point....

Not true. First of all, we all know that the Browns aren't paying anyone $40 million. If they were inclined to do that they would have been in on the bidding for Haynesworth. And they weren't.
So that means if they were gonna try and buy Rogers's happiness it would be much less. Maybe $2 million doesn't do it. Maybe $5 million takes the sting out of the "snub", who knows. But even if they tried to buy happiness it wasn't gonna be $40 million. Not with these guys at the helm.
Anyway, it wasn't like I didn't see what you were trying to say. It's that I think your example was so over the top considering the team we're talking about that it wasn't really proving anything. Not to mention I don't think this incident is about money.

By Patrick McManamon Beacon Journal columnist
DANA POINT, Calif.: The Browns have not "shopped" quarterback Brady Quinn or wide receiver Braylon Edwards on the trade market, GM George Kokinis said Monday at the NFL's annual meetings
Kokinis sat down during a lunch break and addressed many issues related to the Browns — including trade rumors surrounding Quinn and Edwards.
Asked specifically if he had shopped Quinn and Edwards, Kokinis said no.
He did say the team will sign free agent receiver David Patten soon. Patten fits a category of other free agent signings, which bring experienced veterans who can provide leadership, Kokinis said. Patten played for the Browns in 2000.
Regarding trades, Kokinis said he had talked with Giants GM Jerry Reese at the scouting combine about his team's roster, but said he had no specific talks about trading Edwards to New York.
He said he expects Quinn and Derek Anderson to be on the team come training camp, and he's eager to see which one adapts best to the new offense.
The team will await legal results on the status of wide receiver Donte Stallworth before making a decision his status. Stallworth hit and killed a pedestrian on Miami Beach while driving his Bentley; results of blood tests taken on Stallworth at the scene have yet to be released. Kokinis said the Browns let him return to the team last week because it provided him some stability.

Finally, Kokinis said the disagreement with defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is on the way toward working itself out, and he said Rogers would fulfill all the requirements of his contract. That sounds like Rogers will be at the mandatory minicamps, but might miss the remainder of the voluntary offseason workout program.
Kokinis said he did not demand Rogers lose weight, that Rogers dominated at his weight last season. He indicated the team's strength coach might have suggester Rogers lose weight, but no demand was made from Kokinis.

Looks like things are being smoothed over. It also looks like it wasn't that nazi Mangini demanding anything after all. I like the way Kokinis handled this, short and to the point.

Really? You think this was a pissing contest?
Just a rousing discussion of something of very little real interest. What do you expect this time of year?

So what do you think of Kokinis statements about Rogers?

I wasn't asked, but it wouldn't be the first time I've invited myself
I see nothing in those statements that would suggest money is at the root of this problem.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Not much, really. I never thought Rogers was going anywhere nor did I think this was about money.
What the FO said may or may not be true. In my opinion it probably is. But in all honesty what else does anyone think they'd say? They certainly wouldn't say that they were thinking about dumping player X,Y or Z. That would lower their value and tick off the player no end.
Frankly, the moves they've made so far are unimpressive. They may be shoring up the back end of the lineup but I have yet to see a move that I thought would lead directly to one more win than we had last year. I hope I'm wrong.
