Don't worry the tribe doesn't start playing until they are 15 games back. Our Cy Young winners always forget how to pitch in the off season.

Offense will be no problem for this team.

Pitching, on the other hand...well, we suck at it.

Hafner turned on a fastball (good to see) and got his second dinger of the year ... could he be on the comeback trail?
On the other hand, Lewis proceeded to blow the lead in the next 2 innings, and its Toronto up, 4-3. Game is in rain delay, and not an official game yet.

that was an impressive blast by pronk, the wind was knocking them down, i would have loved to have seen that exact same pitch and swing on a hot july night.

Travis could be the key to the season, if he can regain his old form. I think the starters and the bullpen will be okay, although I'm not impressed with what I see from Lewis. Soft toss lefties need to be perfect, location-wise, and Lewis is no Scotty MacGregor or Jamie Moyer, it appears. Might be time to get Huff up here soon if Lewis doesn't find his control, or maybe Rondon.

the rotation is not going to be as bad as we have seen so far, but i don't really know how good it's gonna be...

i have a feeling at the end of the year, it's gonna be about how we let cc go, and only brought in pavano.

i hope wedge doesn't get fired if we don't do anything, this roster isn't really all that impressive. especially the pitching stafff,

I'm hoping Jake Westbrook can return healthy, and that either Huff or Rondon can provide a boost for the starting staff. I think Lee, Carmona will be solid, and I was impressed with what I saw from Reyes last year before he got hurt - good power arm, if healthy. I actually like our lineup with Hafner back, if he's back. The only thing I don't like is the lack of speed - too many station-to-station baserunners clog things up. The cure for that is power ... 2B's and HR's have a way of masking that weakness.

Unfortunatly, I don't think he's going to return to "old form" ... not unless they decide to stop testing for HGH.

Are you sure, because that I swore that is what Paul Byrd was on for a "medical condition", but had to stop in 2006 because it was banned.

It's banned but they don't test for it. To do that they'd have to draw blood and the union won't do it.

Same for the NFL. No testing for HGH there either.

I like this:

Bottom of the 7th: 7-7

After the top of the 8th: 13-7 Blue Jays

How things went in the top of the 8th:

Rolen singled to center.
Millar safe on failed fielder's choice, Rolen to second, Millar to first.
J.Bautista sacrificed, third baseman DeRosa to second baseman A.Cabrera, Rolen to third, Millar to second.
Jo.McDonald pinch-running for Millar.
M.Barrett was intentionally walked.
Scutaro singled to right, Rolen scored, Jo.McDonald to third, M.Barrett to second.
On error by right fielder S.Choo, Jo.McDonald scored.
A.Hill flied out to left fielder B.Francisco.
On balk by R.Perez, M.Barrett to third, Scutaro to second.
Rios doubled to left, M.Barrett scored, Scutaro scored.
Kobayashi pitching.
V.Wells walked on a full count.
Lind doubled to left, Rios scored, V.Wells scored.
Rolen walked on a full count.
Jo.McDonald fouled out to first baseman Garko.

I watched the Tribe tie it up at 7, flipped over to a WEC fight I recorded, turned it back and it's 13-7.

Gonna be a looong year it seems.

Go Cavs!

I lied ... I also don't much like this team's defense. Francisco looks very uncomfortable in LF, Peralta's range at SS is what it is - very limited, Garko is below average at 1B. Only Sizemore, Choo, Cabrera, and Martinez are Major Leaguers at their positions, IMO. Haven't seen enough of DeRosa to judge him at 3B.
I wouldn't mind trying a move of Peralta to 3B, Cabrera to SS, and DeRosa to 2B, along with some PT for Trevor Crowe in LF. Its still early - I hate to sound like a nervous nelly - but these games count as much as the ones in late September. The Indians need to get off the schneid today. It will be tough; they go against Halladay today.

Cliff Lee down 3-0 after 2 and...

Our ERA leader of our starters is on the DL...

CLEVELAND (AP)—The Cleveland Indians have placed starter Scott Lewis on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow strain.

Lewis pitched 4 1-3 innings in Friday’s home-opening loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The left-hander beat out several other pitchers for a spot in Cleveland’s rotation this spring.

With their bullpen overworked and underperforming, the club purchased the contract of right-hander Vinnie Chulk from Triple-A Columbus. Chulk arrived in time for Saturday’s game against Toronto as the Indians tried to get their first win of the season after an 0-4 start.

On Friday, the Blue Jays snapped a 7-7 tie by scoring six runs in the eighth inning off Cleveland’s relievers.

and they haven't been 0-6 in 95 years. Geez ammo, your team is looking like garbage...

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians are on the verge of matching a 95-year-old record. It's not a mark they ever imagined approaching.

Cliff Lee couldn't stop his team's season-opening slide on Saturday as Roy Halladay outpitched the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner and the Toronto Blue Jays withstood a ninth-inning rally to beat Cleveland 5-4, dropping the Indians to 0-5 for the first time since 1985.

The Indians haven't lost their first six games since 1914, when they were known as the Cleveland Naps.

"This is not where we wanted to be or where we expected to be," said Lee, who didn't lose his second decision until July 6 last season and finished 22-3. "But there's nothing we can do about it now. It's done. Our job is to come in here and keep them from sweeping us."

Halladay (2-0), a 20-game winner last season who finished second to Lee in Cy Young balloting, held Cleveland to one run and five hits in seven innings. The right-hander struck out seven, including two in a sticky second, and was rarely in real trouble.

I think this team is pretty much gonna do what last years team did. We don't have starting pitching....Cliff is about it. We don't know when or if Carmona will put it all together. As for Pavano, Lewis, Reyes...none are MLB starting pitchers. IMO None of those 3 will be in the rotation by the all star break.

As for the offense...it is better than last year. Pronk is gonna be better, and Darosa is an upgrade. One of the biggest issues on offense is our lineup. Why we insist on hitting Grady leadoff continues to amaze me. Drop him to #3, hit Vic #4 and Pronk #5 where he belongs. Hit Cabrera #1 or Barfield #1...possibly even Darosa up there and hit Choo #2.

Things are always gonna stay the same as long as we have Shap and Wedge here. Both are overly loyal and patient with "prospects" which when it comes down to it, as much as we hear about our "prospects" about none of them have done jack in the MLB.

Shap's a smart guy, decent GM, and of course he doesn't have big bucks to play with. Why Ben Fransico is on this roster, why David Delluci is on this roster is mind boggling. You trade your CY Young winer for Matt LaPorta and he is actually promising, and yet he's in Buffalo?

1) I think that's assuming a lot that Cliff Lee is "about it." I haven't seen anything from him in his 2 outings to show that he has anything, really.

2) While it would be nice to be able to drop Sizemore down to 3rd in the lineup, we need someone above him that can actually get on base. I don't think Cabrera/Barfield can do it. IMO, they are terrible hitters. It would be great if they could have someone like a Lofton who was a tough out, got on base, and then could move himself around the bases.

yeah, if only we had someone like that in AAA that had a monster spring training....if only....

michael brantley!

i'd rather see brantley and laporta getting reps in the outfield with sizemore rather than the choo-francisco combo. eh, at the rate the tribe's losing we might see that soon enough anyway.

SOOOOO Z I see you changed your tune about Lee since last year when you said

I'll get ragged for "never being happy" or whatever..but...maybe the reason why Cliff has been lights out so far is he's pitched against OAK, OAK, MIN, and KC. None have anywhere near good offenses.

That being said Cliff is gonna be better this year because he's throwing strikes. I think he'll end up being a solid 14-9 ish with a 4.5 era. Which is awesome considering he's our #4-#5 starter. And with our offense we need 3-4 aces for starters."

By the end of the year, I expect you will be eating your words about our pitching staff

Why do the Indians absolutely hate having a lead? Battle back, tie it up at 2, then the very first hitter Pavano faces in the bottom of the inning, WHAM, solo shot.

I love it when I flip to the Indians game and they're down one. Couple minutes later I flip back and they're down two. Flip back again and they're down six.

This pathetic excuse for a team is real lucky that the Cavs are around to keep the city of Cleveland untinterested in baseball for the next month or so.

honestly, a deep june run, and they'll be relevant for what, a few weeks? until training camp starts. they don't benefit from suckiness like the browns do. they don't get that free pass.

look, it's still early. and yeah, it's early. but this is embarassing right now. i know the royals are better. but this pitching sucks. it flat out blows.

the hitting is just as bad. we flat out can't play good situational baseball. yesterday we have guys 2nd and 3rd, 0 out, trailing 4-2, in the 9th with martinez, and hafner coming up. next thing you know the game is over and the heart of the order goes 0-3, with 2k's, and not a ball out of the infield.

this year is now or never for peralta or hafner in my book. we have a lineup that has way too many holes collectively. they strike out too much, play horrible situational basebal(not moving runners along), and have no speed. it looks good on paper, but the flaws are painfully obvious.the only keepers I see in this lineup are grady, choo, victor. the rest could be either traded or placed on the bench. I would keep shoppach. he's a good back-up, part time catcher.
