fleury had to come out and play the angle, kick saved it with his right pad, and his momentum carried him out of the crease.
it was a tough call to make, but probably the right one, i thought there was an instance in game 1 or 2, where there was a similar situation, and i swore i saw a red wing cover the puck. the announcing team didn't even bring the chance that it could be a penalty shot, they were arguing whether it was in or out and i told my girlfriend, dude that could easily be a penalty shot.
pittsburgh vastly outplayed them and deserved to win. both goalies were spectacular, and i'm really looking forward to game 7, i think pittsburgh shows up this time, i'm not saying they win, but i think they show up and we get a great finish to this season.

VASTLY outplayed? Hardly. VASTLY outplayed is getting whipped 5-0.  The Pens outplayed the Wings in the first period and for most of the second that's for sure.
Detroit woke up the last 5 minutes of the second and, for the most part, carried the play in the third. They did everythng but put the puck in the net. Pittsburgh was just hanging on by the end and were a little lucky Detroit didn't tie it up or win it outright (at least one post, a missed breakaway and a host of really good chances missed during the power plays and 6-on-5 in the last minute or so).
Nonetheless, they held on and now we get to watch one of the most exciting games in all of sport: a Game 7 for the Stanley Cup. Anything can happen now

they were vastly outplayed last night. scoreboard isn't always an indicator...
pittsburgh beat them to just about every puck, pittsburgh was much more physical. they simply were the more determined team. they had more jump last night.
detroit thought they'd hang around and steal a win. and because of some poor execution by pittsburgh, they actually had a chance to steal the win.
no, they weren't outplayed to the extent of the game the other night, which was basically over about 5 minutes into the third. no this was 60 minutes, most of which pittsburgh was the superior team.
and yes, i call my girlfriend dude, quite often.

That should have been a penalty shot on Cleary's breakaway, that was a high stick. Can't believe it wasn't called.

In the first two periods... yep. In the third, nope. The Pens got to running around on defense in the third and Wings just didn't capitalize. It happens that way sometiems. "Vastly outplayed" implies the game was never in doubt. This game was most certainly in doubt until the very end.

Wings weren't outplayed. In fact, it could have easily been 3-2 Wings had they captilized on the Lidstrom open net (great play by Scuderi) and Cleary's breakaway.

It was a GREAT game and, even though I'm a Wings fan and would have loved to see a repeat of last season (Wings carrying the Cup around Mellon), I can't wait to see what happens in Game 7.

that goes both ways.
and yes, the wings were outplayed. you can't deny that pittsburgh was faster, more physical, and just plain better last night.
also, i think during the regular season that cleary breakaway is a no doubt penalty shot, in the playoffs, probably not.
although he still got a chance at fleury denied him.
this game 7 is pretty much on fleury. if the pens want to have any shot, he can't let in soft goals, and he has in almost every loss.

As far as Game 7 goes, I just hope it goes into OT......a 2-3 OT periods at that. Cup Final, Game 7, OT.........

 That slash would have been a penalty in Game 2, IMO. Pittsburgh in OT in Game 7 is my prediction.

Penalty yes... penalty shot... no way. He got a good shot off... you don't call a penalty shot unless the person on the breakaway was impeded so much so that he was denied a scoring oppurtunity.

i have no rooting interest in this game, i like both teams, used to be a follower somewhat of the wings
but man, i am jacked. i can't even imagine being a die hard for either team right now.

Now for the tri-fecta.... Indians make a Pens like push to win the world series. Then the Browns dominate and win the super bowl. One can dream...
What a game... I didn't like how the Pens went back into the shell the last 1.5 periods.. but heh.. they won. The ending was a great one. The good Fluery came to play tonight and he was the difference. From the replay from behind Fluery it even looked like he got his shoulder on that one that rang off the post. And my main man Max had both goals.
I can't believe the turn around these guys had this year... they weren't even close to being in the playoff picture after the allstar game. They fire Therrien and pickup Kunitz and Guerin and the rest is history. You better believe I'll be getting a big pic of that team photo holding the cup in my basement here soon.

The pens came to play and the Wings didn't....until the end of the game. They did that waaaay too often in these playoffs. If you think about it, the pens won 4 out of the last 5 games. Their defense played out of their minds. Fleury gave up some big juicy rebounds in the 3rd but the D kept them off of Detroit sticks. Bylsma put together a helluva game plan. After going completely to the end 2 years running, I think both of these teams are going to have an off year in 2010 (Detroit moreso than the pens, the east is a weaker conference). The hockey offseason is pretty short as it is, and some teams have 2 more months to recouperate than those in the finals. That was one great playoff season and I hate to see it end. Now, there's nothing until the Browns kick off.

short shifts. 2 goal lead in a game 7 for all the marbles, you keep your shifts under 40 seconds.
they were basically tying up the neutral zone, and dumping any chance they could get. it's not pretty but that's how you do it. they were obliterating detroit in the neutral zone. i don't know if i have seen detroit get schooled like that. usually when they lose, they still have these ridiculous possessions, where they get off a bunch of shots, but every possession for the most part was 1 and done.
fleury let it a pretty soft goal, but he really showed up tonight. he was outstanding.
the entire playoff season was a joy to watch. the pens with this run, the wings showing up to the finals again, the blackhawks back in the mix, the bruins back to being a contender again. the nhl is in really really good shape right now.
and now it sets in, no more hockey for a while =\

First time in my life I didn't have to say 'there's always next year' I've never rooted for a team other than my own save for a few years in the late 90s when i was adopted by the Packers lol.... and while it was good to root for em they weren't the Browns so they don't count. When the Red Wings got that goal no joke i had images of Mesa running through my head  but it all worked itself out

i am not the Pens fan that I was 10 years ago but I still call them my favorite NHL team so I am happy they won. I still know some people in the organization, so I am happy for them.
I will have to call my buddy Chris Tamer up and see what he has to say. He grew up a Red Wings fan but played his best years for the Pens.

That's about all I have to add to the conversation, except that for what little I thought I knew about how good Detroit is and how well they usually play at home, that was as big a choke as The Drive was. They didn't even start playing until the third period,....

Not at all how you should play it for a period and a half with only a 2 goal lead...IMO. Because of it Detriot was a inch from a tie... if Pittsburgh would have played 0-0 hockey (get it low... cycle...) and actually tried to generate some offense they would have won the game handily. I saw the ending moreso as Pitts went back into there neutral zone shell and the Red Wings dominated with 10x the chances. I liken it to the prevent defense... and we all know how well that works for our Browns. We just got lucky for a change in this series... bounces were all Wings previous to this in their home building.

other than that last little part, there wasn't much from the wings. even the one goal they scored was extremely soft on fleury's part.
you may not like it, but you'll be hard pressed to find a coach who wouldn't short shift guys with a 2 goal lead in a clinching game.
you can talk about getting it down low and cycling, but that's a double edged sword. you stay down there too long, and you get a turnover at the blue line. you don't change, all of a sudden you have an odd man rush, and a bunch of tired guys who can't get to the bench.
the last few seconds were unacceptable on pittsburgh's part. but their goaltender bailed them out big time.

Damn skippy. You keep fresh legs on the ice and only play the offense the opposition hands you on a silver platter....without getting out of position. The saying "a two goal lead is the most dangerous" doesn't apply in the playoffs.
