For a team whose had 17 losing seasons out of the last 18, you sure talk a lot a smack.

EDIT: Before you smack us for our losing records as of late, let me remind you that only 12 out of our last 18 were losing seasons. While this doesn't mean that we have been very successful as of late, I take comfort in the fact 66% of the last 18 isn't as bad as 94% of the last 18.

Sun., Sept. 13, DENVER, 1 p.m. — Win (1-0). The Broncos traded QB Jay Cutler to the Bears. I have zero faith in new QB Kyle Orton.

Orton had 18TDs, 12INTs last year without any passing threats. Now he gets Marshall, Royal and Scheffler...not to mention Moreno is a good receiving back. He should have mentioned Denver's defense, not their offense.

And speaking of trust issues.....how good of a year did Palmer have last year?

Quote:

Sun., Sept. 20, at Green Bay, 1 p.m. — Win (2-0). The Bengals beat Green Bay in the ‘08 preseason at Lambeau Field. The good vibes will continue.

You have a sad and sorry existance when you have to remark how you beat a team last year in the PRESEASON!

Quote:

Sun., Sept. 27, PITTSBURGH, 4:15 p.m. — Lose (2-1). The Steelers have the Bengals’ number in Cincinnati.

And in Pittsburgh and Lebanon and Mozambique....uh, they are just a better team.

Quote:

Sun., Oct. 4, at Cleveland, 1 p.m. — Win (3-1). The Browns are awful. The only way the Bengals lose is if they take Cleveland too lightly.

They must have taken us too lightly last year...they couldn't beat us unless we started our 3rd string QB afterall.

Quote:

Sun., Oct. 11, at Baltimore, 1 p.m. — Lose (3-2). A statement game. The statement: Bengals haven’t quite arrived yet.

Nor will they arrive.

Quote:

Sun., Oct. 18, HOUSTON, 1 p.m. — Win (4-2). The Bengals owe the Texans one after getting blown out in Houston last season.

Yes, because a team proved they are better last year, you will definitely be able to beat them this year....because you OWE them.

Quote:

Sun., Oct. 25, CHICAGO, 1 p.m. — Win (5-2). Jay Cutler is the new Jeff George. Awesome talent, but never happy.

The reason they beat the Bears is because they have Cutler? What the heck is this guy smoking? Bears defense is getting older, slower...still no receiving threats....and they are still way better than the Bengals.

Quote:

Sun., Nov. 1, — BYE —

The Bengals over/under on player arrests set at 9 by Vegas for this week.

Quote:

Sun., Nov. 8, BALTIMORE, 1 p.m. — Lose (5-3). The Bengals are 1-4-1 coming off byes under Marvin Lewis. They relax too much.

Sign of a horrible coaching staff....with 2 weeks to prepare, they almost always lose. Of course, he didn't bother to give their record in non-bye weeks here under Marvin.

Quote:

Sun., Nov. 15, at Pittsburgh, 1 p.m. — Lose (5-4). The Bengals want to beat Pittsburgh so badly that they don’t play well.

???why can't he just admit that they are not as good?

Quote:

Sun., Nov. 22, at Oakland, 4:15 p.m. — Win (6-4). This is the game that turns the season around. The momentum begins here.

Your season turnaround is because you can beat the Raiders? They could very well be in full mutiny mode by the end of November....and I still wouldn't put $$$ on the Bengals.

Quote:

Sun., Nov. 29, CLEVELAND, 1 p.m. — Win (7-4). Bengals put Eric Mangini and the Browns in their proper place. Last place.

Why? Care to give us any reasons you think this? What a great analytical mind he has.

Quote:

Sun., Dec. 6, DETROIT, 1 p.m. — Win (8-4). Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford is fresh meat for the Bengals.

Noone knows if Stafford is even going to start this year for Detroit (they do have C-Pep if they want to ease him in).

Quote:

Sun., Dec. 13, at Minnesota, 1 p.m. — Lose (8-5). The Metrodome will be rocking. The Bengals, unable to tackle Adrian Peterson, will be rattled.

Hmm....inablity to tackle...that sounds familiar...oh yeah, it's the Bengals team defensive strategy.

Quote:

Sun., Dec. 20, at San Diego, 4:05 p.m. — Lose (8-6). For being an open-air arena, Qualcomm Stadium gets awfully loud.

So, let me get this straight....momentum started to build 4 weeks ago, but now you have lost 2 straight? I thought "the season turned around" after the Raiders game.

Quote:

Sun., Dec. 27, KANSAS CITY, 1 p.m. — Win (9-6). Back home in the friendly confines of PBS, Bengals get a late Christmas gift.

Bert and Ernie also live at PBS...but I think Oscar is more fitting if they have to actually watch Bengals games.

Quote:

Sun., Jan. 3, at N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m. — Win (10-6). Bengals know Jets coach Rex Ryan well. He coordinated Ravens’ “D.” The Jets aren’t the Ravens.

We already established that Marvin can't prepare regardless of time or familiarity with a coach (he supposedly should know the Ravens/Steelers coaches and even Chick has them 0-4......he is horrible after a bye). So, why would familiarity help him with the Jets?

And the Jets are not a bad team....if they can get even decent QB play, they should be challenging for a playoff spot. Something the Bengals will not do.

Ok, to make things easier to read....here's the top10 reasons for Bengals win directly from Chick.

Again....these are the only reasons that a Bengal fan/reporter can think up that can result in a Bengal win.

As told by Chick:

10. No faith in Kyle Orton and no more Cutler to worry about.
9. Hey, we beat the Packers in GB in the preseason last year.
8. I have no reason that we can beat the Browns...let's just say something mean about them and ignore that they beat us last year before they were down to their 3rd string QB.
7. Nevermind that beatdown we got from Houston last year....we owe them.
6. No faith in Jay Cutler
(wait a second, weren't we going to beat Denver because they got rid of Cutler...uh, let's just move on and hope noone notices)
5. Time to turn around the season....wait, do a I need an actual reason? And just ignore the 2 straight losses coming up because "Momentum begins here"
4. It is too hard to come up with reasons...I'm just going to say something disparaging about the Browns and be done with it.
3. Let's hope that the winless Lions start a rookie QB for the first time in this game...it's our only hope.
2. We play a home game around Christmas...maybe the other team will want to spend time with their families and not show up.
1. We used to get our butts handed to us by this Rex Ryan guy....but that just means that we won't be surprised by it....oh yeah, and we'll somehow win

And I thought my Bengal Fan friends were bad. Are Bengal fans this stupid? They'll be lucky to go 6-10 this year even when Palmer comes back. Ocho Cinco will be more focused on the HBO cameras than practice during training camp.

Bengals need HBO series to polish image
By Chick Ludwig
Staff Writer Updated 12:15 AM Friday, May 15, 2009

For years, NFL Films has wanted to probe the Cincinnati Bengals.

Like a surgeon, NFL Films president Steve Sabol sought to cut open the franchise, dig around and discover what makes it tick before sewing it up.

The object of his affection, of course, is Paul Brown, the Pro Football Hall of Fame coach of the Cleveland Browns (1946-62) who founded the Bengals in 1968 and coached them from 1968-75.

But Sabol was rebuffed time and time again by the Bengals’ intensely-private owner Mike Brown, who relishes the spotlight about as much as actors enjoy close-ups of their acne.

Paul Brown’s name adorns the Bengals’ stadium, but Mike guards his father’s memory like a Doberman. Come any closer and it’s “Sic ’em!”

So for many followers of the team, it’s stunning, even shocking news that Mike Brown would allow the Bengals to be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series in 2009. HBO, NFL Films and the Bengals announced details on Thursday, May 14.

Consider:

• A 24-person crew — technicians, producers, videographers and announcers — invades Georgetown College for training camp on July 30 when players and coaches arrive on the central Kentucky campus.

• NFL Films will have an all-access “pass” to practice, meetings, dorm rooms, locker room, weight room, training room and cafeteria as it amasses more than 1,000 hours of video for the “docu-reality” series, which is designed to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at training camp.

• The five-show series begins airing Aug. 12 and ends Sept. 9, just before the opening weekend of the 2009 NFL regular season.

My gut tells me the Bengals originally didn’t want to embrace this venture, but they needed to because they desperately want to polish their tarnished image.

The Bengals are considered losers — one playoff berth in the past 18 seasons — and perceived as criminals. “Hard Knocks” will show a long-suffering team on the rise comprised of mostly good guys.

Maybe that famous Bill Veeck line — “There’s no such thing as bad publicity as long as they spell your name right” — is sinking in to Mike Brown’s brain.

Heck yeah I am..I've been laughing at the fans, lunatics and comedic prophecies of you dog pound dwellers for like 7 years now..

Kind of like watching one of those dogs who lose their mind when they see another dog on TV and it keeps running into the screen, over and over again..

Painful..But fun to watch and even more easy to laugh at..

he really should look at the roster before he says they are mostly "good guys"....and if they think HBO isn't going to focus on the negative aspects, then the Bengals are fooling themselves again

also, watch out, the Bengals are "on the rise".....this of course is Bengal-speak for their players getting high

I'm sure you and other Browns fans would be rejoicing if the Browns were picked to be on HBO this summer.

Looks like the bickering has already started in Clown Town with Cribbs not showing up and wanting a new contract. Wonder who will be next?

a STer not showing up to voluntary mini-camps is the best smack you have?

and you would see a lot of angry posts here if the Browns were on HBO....noone wants the team to have that type of distraction.

Its jibberish like this that make you fans seem "unreal". I'm no Clowns fan but I do realize the impact that Cribbs has on your team. So I guess you guys got someone on the roster who's just gonna step in and do what Cribbs does....right? You don't even seem to want to give your own player credit when its due..What a sad and terribly uninformed thing to say. Heck why dont' ya just call out for him to be cut. He's just a special teamer. No team would want him....

you apparently only read the smack shack here....which makes you a troll....good thing it's fun to beat on trolls.

Cribbs is great at what he does (I would argue he's even better at kick coverage than kick returns), but at the same time he's likely arguing with the FO over a million or so because the salary structure of the NFL does not pay ST guys all that much....again, it's not anything that will keep him off the field, which is what makes that smack so weak.

Looks like I'll be having the last laugh when Browns fans have the #1 pick in the 2010 draft. For a team that didn't score an offensive TD in the last six games, you sure talk a lot of smack.

The Bengals are going to get some national exposure on HBO this summer. The producer of Hard Knocks said the Bengals are an up and coming team. Has anyone said that about the Browns this offseason? Good Luck next year. You'll surely need it.

Many of your Bungle fan types have come and gone on this message board. After seeing this prediction, I want you to promise me now that you're going to be here at the end of the season and acknowledge this statement, no matter the results.

Did you not read the post I made above? I've been on this board since way back when it used to be the Clowns website board. Your single digit IQ is flashing so brightly now. You beat on trolls? How? By acting like a little know it all who can't talk smack any better than your putrid team plays football. Yep in my book that's pretty bad..

You posted right there that it doesn't matter if Cribbs isn't there because he's just a special teamer. Sorry bud, he's one of the best players on your team. And the fact that he is a special teamer, says volumes about the overall talent or lack thereof that you have on your roster...

just because you have been reading the smack shack for years doesn't change anything.

your reading comprehension is about what I would expect from a Bengal fan...in fact, it's even a bit lower than usual. perhaps you are originally from the south side of the Ohio River?

I said it didn't matter that he was missing a voluntary mini-camp. and I never said it was just because he was a STer.

Let me break this down in smaller sentences...perhaps it will help you.

1. Joshua Cribbs plays special teams.
2. That makers him a STer.
3. He is going to skip a voluntary mini-camp.
4. Missing a mini-camp does not matter.

Better now? I know voluntary has 4 syllables, but break it down and speak it slowly. I think you can do it.

Draft Grade:

Bengals - A

Clowns - C

Kinda of says it all. The Bengals have been busy all off season signing players & draft picks (their best picks in years) whereas you Cleveland Clowns have done very little. We signed Cedric Benson to a 2-year deal so we have RB covered, we have pretty muich addressed all of our needs so I am looking forward to a great season, Palmer seems ready to go. You Cleveland Clowns are guaranteed last place in the division, it's a lock that's my prediction.

P.S. - On a more revolting note, it looks like Medmann junior might be going to college in Cleveland : , Oh the shame, Oh the indignity. I told junior not to set foot in Clown stadium except to watch the Bengals deliver their annual beatdown to the Cleveland Clowns on Sunday Oct 4, I told him he can go to that game.

Do you guys have like Restaurants & stuff up there?

You should be proud that someone in your family can at least read for the first time.

You think you have RB covered with Cedric Benson? I bet that's what the Bears thought when they drafted him.

Annual beat down? You mean like the one where you gave up 51 points in Cleveland?

You also keep mentioning "Clown this" and "Clown that." Need I remind you of the name of your stadium and the founder of your team? Not to mention that fact that if any Brown should be turned into Clown, it should be the one that owns your team. Seriously, when has he ever done anything good for you guys?

Restaurants and stuff? Really, you're going there? Cincinnati is more a slave to chains than Cleveland. I've lived in both cities for at least 8 years a piece and I live in Cincy now. How many Iron Chef restaurants does Cincinnati have?

I'm sorry that your son will be forced to have more choices in Cleveland than just between Goldstar,Skyline and Waffle House. Hell, if Jeff Ruby moved out, you guys would almost be completely screwed, and even he can't get things right after that lawsuit came in from Vegas.

Oh, and one more thing. I love your guys' use of predictions. Remember last year when Palmer predicted the Bungles to win the division. He's brilliant.

Iron Chef ? is that all you got? Do we even want one of those?

For a guy who supposedly lives in Cincy (I don't think you do) you have never eaten at the Montgomery Inn & Boathouse? Best ribs in the midwest. There are tons of good Restaurants in Cincy & northern Kentucky, you know the ones you Cleveland folks eat at when you come down here.

We gave up 51 Points? Yes but you gave back like 45 of them!

P.S. - The Brown family has no affiliation with Cleveland in any way or wants to. Don't forget that the Bengals have beaten the Clowns 7 of the last 9 meetings & leads the battle of Ohio, at least since reorganization, the Cleveland Clowns have been OWNED by the Bengals.

Food is way too subjective for you to say that Med's right and we're wrong.

I went out of my way to eat there when I was in Cincy on a business trip, I even took my co-workers with me, based on rep alone. I was disappointed mostly due to the cost for the lack of quality that I we had. My co-workers were in agreement. None of us were impressed with the sauce. For the reputation that they have, it should have been WAY better than it was. Perhaps I was there on an "off" night, admittedly, I know that mid-week cook/service isn't up to weekend standards at many restaraunts.

I will try Montgomery Inn again one of these times that I'm down in Cincy again (get down there 3-4 times per year for work). Something with a big rep is something I'll give more than one chance to. But it won't get more than 2 if I am still disappointed.

Best ribs in the midwest?? Dude, you need to get out more.

I didn't say best ribs in the Midwest. All I said was it is delicious. Perhaps you need to get out to a reading comprehension class?

Iron Chef ? is that all you got?

Haha, do you even know what an Iron Chef is? Clearly not. As far as Montgomery Inn goes, I echo the other points that were said earlier. The place is way overpriced and the service was horrible last time I went there. We actually had our dinner paid for (which I did appreciate) because it was that bad. The food is okay, but not great.

I'm glad you mentioned that place, though because I do appreciate how they emblazon certain autographed Browns paraphanalia. You doubt I live in Cincy? Haha, okay. I'm an associate for a law firm at 6th and Vine downtown at 600 Vine Center. I live in Hyde Park with my wife who attends Med School at UC. I went to Xavier University - my freshman year was during the race riots - and my favorite bar to hang out at is Crowley's in Mt. Adams. You strike me as the type of person who lives in "Over-the-Rhine" so I hope you know where all that stuff is.

If there is ONE restaurant/pub besides the Jeff Ruby chain that I would give you guys, it's Nicholson's, but that's more for the beer and the atmosphere than the food.

Face it. Cincinnati does not have the ethnic variety of food that Cleveland offers. Cleveland has Little Italy - nothing beats the feast, great Polish food, German food, Slavic food, etc. Cincinnati is German, chili, or bust. I'll be at Taste of Cincinnati this weekend and I'll let you know if I'm proven wrong.

Anyways, back to football -

We did give back 45. I'm glad you can count. Although I see that you still can't subtract. Sorry, Meddy, but 51 > 45.

As far as the Brown family goes after the death of Paul Brown, I consider it a blessing every day that Mike Brown has no affiliation with Cleveland. And you would be kidding yourself if you say that you love having him as your owner.

We keep our name and we keep our history. Your team was founded in spite. The colors and the initials of your team were even mirrored after us. So, what's it like living in our shadow, and being the red-headed stepchild of Ohio football?

I'll give Cincinnati this as far as food goes: Skyline Chili.
