They're down 16 with just under 10 to go so it's looking like I can go back to hating them again...

I'm amazed that $tern allowed the Magic to let this lead get as big as it has.

Even though I wanted Boston to win it's nice to see them get blown out on their home court...

I've been saying since the beginning of the playoffs, there's only two teams that scare me. LA and Orlando. I'm starting to think Denver might pose some problems if they beat in LA. I was seriously hoping the Celts would win. I think this is going to be a tough series for us. We do not match up well on Orlando. Two words.... Deee Fense!

Damn it Boston...
Here we go...Orlando will beat us a couple times...The best thing going against them is hangin' on the 3's...U will never consistently hit 3's at a high percentage...
This series will help us because there will be no sweepin' it...We may have swept Boston...They DONE...This one should go 6...Maybe even 7...
Go Browns!!!

I'm really confused as to why ESPN has us beating Orlando in 5 games Orlando and LA are the only 2 teams that I felt would give the cavs nightmare match ups. A huge advantage for the cavs is that they don't have extreme mental lapsses like the Magic do. Go cavs!

orlando will get a few wins by hot shooting. but mike brown will probably continue to double howard and just hope that williams/west/lebron can close out on the opens shooters.
if we contest every shot, we're fine, but mb is gonna play percentages in this one.
i think it's a tougher matchup because they're more healthy than boston, but they also aren't good on defense, their coach is HORRIBLE, and on the good side, assuming we get past them and assuming it's against LA, i think we'll be better served playing a team like orlando prior to LA. they both get out on the run. we've gotta make this a halfcourt series.

I'd actually rather that they let Dwight get his, and concentrate on preventing Turk, Lewis, and Lee get wide open looks from the three point line.

I agree with you on this... Knowing MB, we will "experiment" with a few different looks on Dwight early in game one, and make adjustments as the series continues...
Should be interesting... My main concern in this series is our bench vs. their bench...

just clicking... I don't like the NBA very much but I thought this was interesting and makes Barkley look like an arse. Again. Quote:
Charles Barkley bashes Cleveland again, picks Orlando to beat Cavs by cleveland.com Monday May 18, 2009, 9:23 AM
Charles Barkley insults Cleveland like it's a bodily function. Charles Barkley, what did we ever do to you? The NBA great and basketball analyst for TNT, who seems to have made it a habit of bashing Cleveland at every opportunity, was at it again last night following Game 7 between the Magic and Celtics.
Like he did back in March, Sir Charles once again referred to our city as "Mistake by the Lake" (Original, Charles!) and picked the Magic to beat the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Close watchers of TNT may recall Barkley picking the Cavaliers to win the NBA Championship earlier in the playoffs.

i'm not so sure....while I think we double Dwight to start the game because Orlando starts games running sets through him, they go away from that and I think AV will be able to handle Dwight decently enough to not have to double.
the thing about Dwight is that he has bad footwork on his post moves...AV has great defensive footwork, so he should be able to take advantage of that. Dwight will still get some buckets because he is the most athelitic big man in the NBA, but AV should make him inefficient in doing so.
Also, the Magic are much better with AJ running point for the starters (go to 82games.com and look at 5man units for proof). Glad that SVG hasn't figured that out yet and continues to put Alston on the floor (when he would be much better running the show for the second unit when he can focus on scoring).

i hope we don't double him the whole series, but i think brown has some good tape from the boston series that he can maybe show his guys.
boston was able to keep him under control with a frontcourt of perkins, davis, and scalabrine. no kg, no powe.
you can't say it enough, as long as we contest every 3 pointer possible, we will be more than fine.
on the other end, i think the cavs are going to have their way with orlando's defense. nobody in that backcourt scares me on defense.

when JJ Redick is being praised as your best perimeter defender for a series...you have defensive issues for sure.
also, who in their frontcourt scares anyone with their defense besides Howard? and Rondo dunked on Howard 3 times in that series.

And Chris Webber said that the Magic is the most talented team in the NBA, but he doesn't think they'll beat Cleveland because the Cavs have better basketball IQ. I don't put much stock in what Barkley says, as he changes predictions about as often as Cleveland changes weather.
Orlando's D doesn't worry me in the least. Of the four remaining teams they're giving up the highest field goal percentage through their first two series, playing against a team that got taken to overtime by our second and third teamers and a team whose offense ran through Rajon Rondo and Glen Davis (who are coming into their own for certain but are hardly offensive juggernauts).
Honestly, the only thing that worries me about Orlando is their three point shooting. Its really all they've got.

lolz. great point.
i think howard would be better if his perimeter guys would defend, and he could provide help defense. but that ain't the case. howard has the potential to be as good as kg on defense, especially help d, but that's no good when your team refuses to put the effort in.
if jj redick is your best perimeter defender, and you're up against our backcourt, you're finished.

I didn't watch much of the Celtics/Magic series, but does Dwight Howard always get into foul trouble like that? If he does, you pound right at him early. That will neutralize his defensive prowess early, and he also can't be as aggressive on offense and rebounding.
If he doesn't get into foul trouble, then nevermind on that.
If a team is going to bury 3 pointers all night no matter how good your defense is, then so be it. You can only do so much in that case.
Frankly, I was glad that Orlando won. Ray Allen seemed to finally find his groove in game 7 and that wouldn't have been good for him to continue that against the Cavs.
Now, I'm not saying it's going to be a cake walk, but I think the Cavs match up better against Orlando than they do against Boston. That comes with the disclaimer that I haven't followed much this season, so I could be way off.
How deep is Orlando's bench?
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Howard is averaging over 4 PFs a game. I think he's just kind of undisciplined on defense, and relies on athleticism more than technique. People are wowed when he blocks a shot into the fifth row, but beyond blocks and rebounds I don't think he's anything to be frightened of. And a guy who's 6'11 and can leap like he does had better be grabbing boards and blocking shots.
Courtney Lee and Mickael Pietrus are their biggest threats off the bench. Pietrus can knock down threes like crazy, and Lee can shoot as well as score off the dribble. Lee's a rookie though, so he's bound to be green on such a big stage.
Orlando's got a bunch of guys with really similar games...Turk, Evans, Lee, Pietrus are pretty similar and that's their rotation outside of Howard and Gortat at the 5 and Alston and Redick at the 1 and 2. I don't see them getting out of the 7-man rotation plus Gortat spelling Dwight for rest/foul trouble.

Dwight and the Magic will be an incredibly difficult team to deal with once Dwight learns some of the little things (post footwork, smart defense, etc). I don't think he is ready yet.

Absolutely.
Its kinda funny you bring that up... When I was a kid I had this series of fiction books that I read over and over again. They were about a high school basketball team in Indianapolis who's start player was a 6'11" jump shooting center who transferred in from a farm town. Basically the series was about how he developed the complete game he needed to lead his team to a state championship. Anyway, there's a part in the story where the kid is developing his defensive game and working on shot-blocking technique, and his coach teaches him that while big rejections may draw oohs and ahhs from the crowd, its more important to just keep the guy from scoring while directing the ball to your teammates. Blocking the ball out of bounds or letting an offensive player grab your block does very little for your team if they still put the points on the board for the possession. That's exactly what I think about whenever I see Dwight Howard block shots out of the gym; that it does you no good if the other team still scores.

Alonzo Mourning was the best I ever saw at being able to block shots to teammates. He had an uncanny ability to get it deflected to his own guys.

And what about that guy Turkoglu?
I have never seen someone in the NBA (or even college or high school for that matter) dribble with his non-dribbling arm out like that guy. You see that kind of stuff in intramurals in grade school.
That being said, the guy throws some really nice passes and has a good shot. But how do they not call a foul when he's leading with his arm like that?

I think we are going to see the Cavs try to establish Z early and often and do the same with Joe Smith. Both are good outside shooting bigs which can bring howard out of the paint. If Z can get it going it is going to put a ton of pressure on Orlandos D. Howard doesnt want to come out and guard Z than hopefully the big guy can catch fire. Howard comes out you have Lebron moving to the paint with a one on one mismatch or he will have easy passes to cutters when they collapse on him. If we play the we can on offense and we win the series.
As far a defense goes, we have 24 fouls to put on Howard and put him on the line which is a 50/50 proposition with him. I look for Mike Brown to handle Howard one on one most of the time and see a lot of quick doubles on Howard only when he is certain spots on the floor to take away the momentum shifting outside game they have. I can almost guarantee that we will not see as many open 3 against Cleveland as you did in the boston series unless we get undisciplined and keep bringing help on Howard to early.
Look for Delonte West to have a series that will legitimize him as one of the premier perimeter defenders in this series and be the consistent 3rd scorer that will tip the series in our favor.
I am a witness.

Your seats should be good. You can sit in the very last row and see great as long as your seats aren't behind one of the baskets. Center court should be a non-issue. Have fun!

I know all you guys saw that shot Lebron hit Sunday in practice. I think he hit it on his 3rd try.
I was out on the outside courts today after my run and hit the same EXACT shot on my 6th try. I could have got it on my 3rd but I had to deal with the wind variable
