Ah, but when I go out with my girlfriends, I always make sure that the wait staff is well taken care of, as long as the service was good. My standard is 20%. Exceptional service gets 25%, poor service gets 15% or less (depending on how bad).

It wasn't as big of a problem with young attractive women like yourself... It was more the older, been married 50 years, and don't know how to act without my husband here to tell me what to do, type.......

It was always a hoot to work your butt off for 4 women who would run up a total check of $60... leave you $6 then watch them each get in a $60,000 car and drive away...

Let's be careful with our punctuation here... is it:

I hated giving table dances for a dollar, DC. It used to make me SOOOOOOOOO mad!

or

I hated giving table dances for a dollar. DC used to make me SOOOOOOOOO mad!

It's refreshing to see a thread stay on topic for a change.

We started out with gay businesses in Cleveland and are now onto heterosexual lap dances... I have no problem with the topic change..

Absolutely. I hated waiting on women like that. For a while I'd trade off with the male waiters thinking they might tip a man better.....until the guys found out it didn't matter who waited on them and we'd all fight about who had to take them. Damn old bats.

I hear the worst place to work is Bob Evans. The old geezers tip terribly and stay forever so your tables never turn over. So remember to tip really well when you're at Bob Evans.

Of course they're a target market.... every large-number group is...

Oh absolutely. It all comes down to the all-mighty dollar. Actually the answer to just about everything in the world comes down to that. It makes sense because think about it... most gays don't have children to suck up all of their expendable income (which is a lot... most people on average spend well over 1 million on their kids). So they have that money to travel generally. It's just simple economics...

I usually leave a tip, but only cuz I feel I have to.

I've never figured out why some workers believe they deserve a tip. They're doing a job they get paid for - to bring me a plate full of food, or a beer. If their boss is too cheap to pay them anything more than minimum wage, that's not my problem.

No one stops in my office and drops $10 on my desk if I do a good job.

Lamp, you do know servers don't make minimum wage, right? It's something like $3 and hour they are "paid" and tips are supposed to bring their wages to minimum. Tip well and tip often. They are literally counting on those tips to live.

I tend to tip pretty well.. especially bartenders. I get good service more often than I get bad. Some places don't put my shots in shot glasses.. they put em in Old Fashioned glasses.. and halfway up.. hehe

Yup, we take care of our bartenders as well. They see us walk in and two beers are waiting for us on the bar. Can't beat that.

$3 an hour??? Wow, didn't know that about Ohio.

Minimum wage is law up here in Canada - and it means just that: "minimum wage." Unless I'm really mistaken - and I don't think I am.

Might want to check that out...I know certain businesses are exempt from the new minimum wage law in Ohio.

You betcha dear.. I walk in to the Lib and Jennifer or Monica will have a Bud and Beam waiting for me. I walk into Woody's and Hock will have index finger on each hand raised up.. all I have to do is nod my head and my order is in front of me.

It's more than just Ohio. If the server does not make minimum wage with tips the restaurant must make up the difference. You report that very often and you'll be fired. Those people work their asses off and deserve more than minimum wage anyway, that's why I tip well.

I just called a local pub and asked about it... minimum wage IS law here, a bar/pub owner can't pay anything less than that (about $7.25 an hour, IIRC). No tips from lamp.

I would check my food and drinks carefully if you ever go back to the same place twice.

People who don't tip and tip well

I know they work their butts off, and probably do deserve more than minimum.
But it's not up to me to prop up their income just cuz they're nice and smiley and bring me some wings.
What about gas station attendees? Maybe they deserve tips, too.

Servers are paid a sub-minimum wage and then claim tips to take them above minimum.....if their tips don't get them to minimum, the employer has to make up the difference.

If they have to do that, the employee is usually fired as the feeling is the person isn't doing the job properly to not get tips.

I am a good tipper...for food service....20%....for bartenders...a dollar a drink plus $2 for each hour I spend at the bar....so if I drink 4 drinks over 2 hours...I leave $8...and most of the time just round it off to $10.

That is overtipping, but where I go, the tenders know me, give me quick service, and pour me a good drink.

When I go into a new place, many times I tip the server $5 up front and let them know the rest just depends.

When I go watch Browns games on TV at the bar...Christy(the tender) knows she has $8-10 just because I will be in the seat for 3-4 hours.
